  • why is it so many people totaly underestimate the power of lasers, while so many others think that they will go through anything like butter? where are all the normal people, or at least a few who have read ANYTHING about lasers, who know that they can do a lot but aren't portable wall demolishers? thats a cool concept, now if only you could make one like that outa an old computer dvd drive.

  • Where is the smoke? anytime I see a laser cut wood I see smoke! Where is it....

    Shenanigans!

  • @slicksqueegie See where the light at the tip gets kinda wavy at times when he is cutting? that's smoke... He actually designed his pen to perform an actual task, not like the overpowered lasers that burn an make tons of smoke in the process. The Fibre Optic line he is channeling the laser through actually keeps the beam in such a fine point. Basically what I am saying is, If his lines were bigger, there would be more smoke.

  • That's a cool use of a laser beam, etching, engraving, those are both perfect, since you can control the focus of the lasers burn point using lens, lasers and lens form an hourglass for lack of a better term, in the middle where they meet is the point of the burn.

  • TOOL!!!!!! <3

  • tool plays in the background... nice laser!

  • 46&2

  • whoa!

  • With a 200mW laser would i need goggles.

  • I love burning stuff.

  • @NnintendoGamer4911 Alert@Pyro! Might one day burn his families houses down.

  • this is awesome !! great job

  • nice vid and great music

  • haha u use a pen with a light

  • ugh the diode is so much.....gayyy, do you know where to get one a little cheaper than 100 bucks? lol

  • @someone11110 it's 1 Watt. For what you're getting, that's pretty cheap.

  • @haedadru haha i agree (although i am 16 my self) but some people are just morons and dot research befor they do stuff when it comes to lasers research or go blind

  • a 1W laser diode would heat up and melt that pen/pencil before you could use it dumbass

  • @firedude201234

this diode is coupled (fiber-coupled) you dumbass

  • @firedude201234

this diode is coupled (fiber-coupled) you dumbass

  • Hey its that custom guitar part company!!!

  • its a pen

  • it only looks like that for convenience

  • @fuzzyfeet45 intelligence fail

  • 46 and 2. Very good song. Tool is bad-ass.

  • u can tell this is fake and it is obvious he is using a pen with a light attached

  • he is not burning it. if you knew anything about lasers you would know that laser beams do not change size when they are moved farther and closer to the surface. that is one big difference between laser and a normal light and that is a normal blue light

  • ur a dumass i have that same one because i do woodcraft myself and sell it u can tell that its smoking

  • This could be for safety reasons. If a laser were to touch skin that would burn you. The laser is probably focused through a lense, this means that it will only be small enough to burn you when it is hovering within a few millimeters of the object. Plus, as dalton7781 points out, you can see the wood smoking.

  • Grass grow! Paint dry!

  • numb nuts it's a freakin pencil with a light on it

  • It is a laser with the focus set very close to itself.

  • fucking bull.

  • OMG it is!!! hahahaha, i feel like a dumbass! good thing one of us is smart!

  • your not burning it ass hole

  • What else is he doing asshole?

  • it is lol .. you can see the smoke and everything.

  • 46&2 by tool on there album aenema released in 1996 what now best song ever i saw their concert exactly a week ago

  • sweet!

  • you can write!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • HAHAHA thats 46 & 2 in the background LOL

  • This isnt fake. There is a tutorial on how to make this. Its posted on instructables.

  • whoa thats crazy

  • IT IS REAL ITS INFRARED.

This is sooooooooo cool i want to make one i probable am now.

  • If it were infrared you wouldn't be able to see it. It's in the visible spectrum.

  • on camera you can it picks it up try it with any ting IR like the wii bar on your tv

  • actually you can see it. It is 808nm, which means it isnt completely invisible. Check out my vid for example. it is an infrared burning laser i made

  • @ninjaclawslsr

Well techniquely a CMOS sensor in digital camera's or webcam's can see IR up to 10600nm, depending on if there is a IR filter and the quaility of said filter. Hell i use a old webcam with the IR filter removed and replaced with a IRpass filter on my lab bench just for a visual reference.

  • If you learn to read the words INSTRUCTABLES (HINT: a show and tell site, omg!) You'd clearly know he used a fiber obtic .. pigtail, pointed a 1mw laser module into one side, and like any fiber obtics, shows out the other side. ran it into the pin to hold it. Click the link and maybe you'd know this -_-

  • Thats nice

  • It's a laser diode, it isn't fake!!. You can cut black plastics with a 200mW red laser from a DVD burner or infra-red CD burners, but the simplest is always the best. For this application you can use a simple nicrom resistance, for popping a balloon you can use a needle and for cutting black tape you can use a scissor :) instead an expensive laser. Much more cheaper things but not so impressive.

  • Stew-Mac, baby! Are you a luthier? I dig your technique with the laser, do you use it to decorate guitars? I build guitars in Brooklyn and I always thought of woodburning designs into the instrument. Where did you get it and where did you learn your techniques? Peace.

  • Where did you get the diode?

  • you need to die realy i hope you die now like the momment i press "Post Comment" you have to die...

  • TOOL !

  • Nice build man, thats way better than just holding the fiber. And anyone who dont think 1 watt would burn like that must be a a little slow.

  • Most camera's these days have filters to prevent them from picking up IR light (but you can open your camera and get it out).

  • omg.. another moron.

    woodburning. look it up sometime.

seriously, are you like 2 or just stupid?

  • ur just drawing with a light on the end of the pencil..who the hell doesnet relize that??

  • who the hell cannot spell? try at least sounding semi-intelligent when insulting some one....

  • wow... how stupid are you??

    its called PYROGRAPHY.

  • This kicks so much ass, I have to get around making one some time.

  • can you idiots stop commenting saying its a flshlight pen?

youre complete dickheads, thats how ir light shows up on cameras.

  • wow aaronbaby12345 your a god damn retard camra ans humans cant see ir light DUMB ASS RETARD

  • actually, you are both right... some cameras cannot see IR light, due to a certain filter.. but there is no need for the insulting going on here....

  • That thing would be badass for ingraving inlay:)

  • You Guys Are Quite The Douches Eh?

Of Course A 1 Watt Laser Diode Would Burn That Quick, Jesus Christ... Man 200mW Laser Diodes Can Burn Straight Through Plastics, Give This Guy A Break And Do Research Before You Give Someone Crap Like This...

    Nice Video Dude,

    Good Demonstration : )

  • yes it would burn that fast, if you have 1 watt laser. buy one and you will see it yourself .

  • @joshjo5n lololol look it up boy

  • DOES LASER PLAYER work or only BURNER ?

  • wtf that isnt a laser

  • is there a plan to make one of those from on here? it would make signing my custom woodwork a lot easier and safer than using my old woodburning pen

  • nice tool..and nice 'tool'

going to make one of those...

  • have you tired to put it on your dick and see what happens? just a idea man

  • nice woodburning lol and for those who think its just a pen its not, look closer u can see smoke

  • ur just writing with pen. lmao

  • were do u buy diodes?

  • looks to me like hes just righting with a pen

  • No man, it's the high powered laser burning the wood.Pretty cool though, didn't knew you can run a laser through a fiber optic like that. Also you might wanna consider some eye protection while staring at the details you're making :)

  • Very nice.I like the design you were doing also. And Tool in the background. Perfect.

  • its a heated tip the laser isnt doing it

  • :) Nope, 1w laser burns non metallic stuff with no problem.

  • A heating element "inside" a pen? how would that even work? the pen would melt down before it could get hot enough to burn wood.

Its one of those fiber optic diode things.

  • @biggun1225 yaaa i agree its more of a light then a laser

  • @biggun1225 It's 1 WATT. Do you know how powerful that is? My 50mW 532nm can pop balloons and engrave my flashdrive and that's 1/20th of the power. Learn your facts before you post stupid ass comments.

  • @GeoMiP well, output isn't enough information alone. its all about the beam diameter. a 50mW laser with a 5mm beam diameter (2.54mW/(mm^2)) won't do jack shit. but a 50mW laser with a 3mm diameter beam actually has (7.08mW/(mm^2)). My 1.5 WATT 445nm laser has a beam diameter of 5mm =76.41mW/(mm^2).

Therefore BURNING POWER IS A FUNCTION OF BOTH BEAM DIAMETER AND LIGHT OUTPUT. not just light output as you partially proved. btw a photon of 445nm light is 30% stronger than a photon of 532nm light.

  • do you have a website where i can study this laser more closely?

  • good stuff
