I saw Ian Hunter a few weeks ago in Bristol, and for a 71 year old he still has it, totally awsome, he played this and All the way from Memphis and All the Young Dudes for the encore with Mick Ralphs coming in to add extra guitar for those songs. I went seven shades of dipshit along with the rest of the audience. Cracking night.
Thing with Mott was...they'd write a beautiful little tune...great intro, verse chorus...and then just shit on it from three miles up in the middle. Every time...they sabotaged just about every song they wrote. This is one of the worst examples. 'There's a rockabilly party...' voila! song shat on.
@nitsuac Good call, could've loved this song apart from the shite at the end, and you're right, all the songs that could have been great have been reduced to cartoon nonsense by the inexplicable rant. Why oh why....
Whereas Leon R.'s song is new-age Christian, Ian's is a sharp chastisement of the religion and its exemplars for its life-negating vision. He is so right that we must not be "cold and so alone". Instead we should embrace life with the zest of Mott the Hoople and the critical vision of its lead singer/talker - the incomparable Ian [may he live into his hundreds] Hunter (Patterson). Greg G. of Portland
First '45 I ever bought - pity they didn'y have Lyndsey de Paul on the video !!!!!
