In the way that crime has gone up since the ban. That's how it hasn't worked. Look up BBC crime statistics. One the government crime website, you would think that everything is fine and dandy. Of course that's what they want you to think.

If you look up statistics on the BBC you will see that only the "rate" of crime has gone down last year for the first time since the ban. The total number of crimes is still higher than crimes before the ban.

Well if you understand that guns or gun control does not prevent crimes from happening, I would argue that owning a gun prevents you from being a victim. If someone were to break into my home, I know that I would at least stand a fighting chance of coming out of it uninjured. Even criminals, when they see a gun, often run away without a shot even being fired.

Disarmament won't bring upon a totalitarian government, but it is one of the key steps that needs to happen for one to come into power. That's what I'm mainly worried about, not about your common street thug. The government having a monopoly on power leads them to abuse that responsibility. Well, eventually, with enough loss of life, an unarmed protest would work but the price would be higher than with guns. Governments should always fear the people but that fear becomes much less when the people do not have effective means of fighting back. Guns, during a revolution, in fact save lives for this reason. They enable a swift change to occur, rather than allow for the slaughter of unarmed protesters. Why should I settle for anything less than the most effective tools? Nobody should.

Eventually the war stopped because others with guns came to save them. When the entire world is disarmed, where with the others come from? I have the right to buy a gun in Australia too. But our gun control is alot stricter. For example, even semi-automatic weapons are banned, except for use by civilians.

In terms of defence, if a shot is well aimed, then I don't see why you would need a faster rate of fire than what a 6 shot revolver can produce.
