Eric Clapton is playing on this song, but he's not featured in the video. Beck and Page had nothing to do with this song. Moreover, this song was written orginally by the Isley Brothers or Bo Diddley, I believe.
@MonogrammedMarxist Bo Diddley (you're thinking of 'Respectable' by The Isley Brothers). The Who (as The High Numbers) also did a good version of this song.
i am going to see the yardbirds again on may 27 in long island. i saw them last year in westbury and they were awesome. they played a killer set, opened with train kept a rollin and closed with dazed and confused. chris dreja nad jim mccarthy are originals in the band. ben king is the lead player. fantastic.
The Yardbirds with original members Chris Dreja & Jim McCarty will be on US 2010 Tour; May 21 Montgomery College Robert Parilla PAC Rockville MD; May 22 Chesapeake Blues Festival Annapolis MD; May 23 Tangiers Akron OH; May 25 Sellersville Theatre Sellersville PA; May 26 BB Kings New York NY; May 27 YMCA Boulton Center Bayshore NY; May 28 Showcase Live Foxbourgh MA; May 30 Memorial day Weekend Festival Virginia Beach VA.
The original singer is dead minus paul samuel smith another kick ass bassist..Truly underrated, last time Ive heard yardbird in a bar they turn the fucker off..People are ignorant esp in Colordao..
Relf died from electrocution when his guitar amp shorted out while practicing in a studio he had set up in a converted cellar at his house in London .
No problem dude..Yardbirds are my favorite band since 1993..I just turn my best friend onto Yardbirds..Because thats Alice Cooper's favorite band..and A.C. is my friends favorite God/Singer..
Keith had a collapsed lung once because he had some really serious asthma problems. But he recovered from that. I believe that he did have two lungs, just like everyone else, but perhaps one didn't work as well as the other. Either way, his singing ablitiy was always superb, despite his breathing troubles.
@wisesatyr72 Ahhh but I saw Relf, Dreja, McCarty and Page make a steamy hotbox dancehall in St Pete absolutely boil and kick steam thru the vents. Only time I ever PASSED OUT after listening to a first set that includedShapes of Things, NY City Blues, and Train Kept a Rollin outfuckinrageous harp from Keith, violin bow lead on an old Telcaster and an IMPRESSIVE set on bass by the original rhythm guitarist.I too missed Paul S Smith. He was/is solid as Chas Chander (saw Animals in 65).
@wisesatyr72 "Found Chuck Berry when I heard the Stones/ The British Invasion was goin' strong/ like runnin' 'round the block to get nextdoor" Thee lines I wrote ("Downtown Daze", soon on my own pAGE!) to say how those guys taught teenagers serious about music in 1965 to examine their roots, Schooled in music, streetwise educated in folk, rhyrthm nd blues, as well s other forms, the BRITS walked us into Chicago, Memphis and Indianola.Yardbirds took us into theZONEof Sonic ear splitting rock.
BTW... it's not the video that's odd... it's seeing them dress up like muppets. No doubt, Gormelsky's attempt at marketing the band as a pop group ... Clapton looks like he has too much starch in his suite.
cheers m8, now you come to mention it i guess they do lol
still envy you though being there way back then, would give my left hand to have been able to see these bands especially at the world famous marquee, you see many bands there
Marquee club was amzing... The Who on a Tuesday (although Pete Townsend (name drop) tells me it was a Thursday), Yardbirds on Friday, I was there the night the Authentics changed their name to the moody blues. Rod Stewart busking on stage between acts ... actually looking back it mostly exciting crap!
Unlike like the Doors or LedZep at the Roundhouse. which was the real deal.
i take it you were a mod then m8, or followed the same kind of stuff mods did
you seen the doors now i really do envy you,
not a big zep fan but love going to california and bron yaur stomp 2 top notch tunes, understand how you like zep since most of them were with the yardbirds
love rod stewarts, 60's stuff have quite a lot of his stuff from back then, you ever see the small faces at the marquee, did you get to see the birds, been told of a guy from back then that they were brilliant live
This music is not from this odd video. This is the track from 5 live Yardbirds album recorded over several Friday night sessions at the Marquee club in London. I was there for all sessions. Don't believe me? Well if you were there, you'll know that Here 'tis was the first track recorded except that Clapton broke a string half way through and they had to rerecord it. If anything hooked me on Clapton it was that break at 2m 50s. End of history lesson. Yeah. They were unbelievable.
cheers m8, but we already know that, instead of just sticking a track up i try and use footage of the band as well, as well as pics, in saying that yep very lucky guy to be there was born in 71 so missed all this stuff, but the mod revival late 70's, 80's introduced me to this stuff and i've never looked back, cheers for your comment and i do appreciate what you were saying about the video, but i've never had ma stuff described as odd lol
Paul Samwell Smith was definitely among the more underrated bass players in the business . Just listen to his work on this song .
