awesome video was gonna buy a complete lower cause i thought a full build would be to complicated but you made it look easy and fun so i think ill buy a stripped one and build it myself
Nice vid! One quick question. What exactly did you put on the vice grips jaws? I know you said you put a piece of metal but it looks like there is more on it. Please correct me if im wrong. Just making sure i heard correctly.
@Whathehadagun1 In the video they are just small pieces of flat steel with JB weld holding them on. I don't have a welder. They didn't stay on for long and later in the video you can see one has fallen off. Since this video was made I took the grips and ground smooth the teeth with a grinder. I then put tape on the jaws to protect the finish. Using the vice grips with all those teeth is asking for trouble.
very good vid, thanks for taking time to talk about the nuances like which way the retainer spring goes in and showing which way the detents go, excellent
Thanks! I watched your video and put together my first lower receiver. The de-tent pin and spring for the front locking push pin was a little hard, but with patience I got it. Thanks again!
@papichu10 Well there is no doubt that hitting the bolt catch with the hammer can and will damage it eventually, I cannot say if yours is malfunctioning because of it. It should move freely on the roll pin when pressed. IF your bolt does not lock back after the last shot then it could also be the magazine is not pressing up on it hard enough.
Superb video! Thank you. I have a question though.. I took off my buffer tube for the very first time (without watching a tutorial) and the spring fell on the floor and ended up getting damaged.. do you know of a good place to get another? I believe it's just the spring I need.. thanks!
@CaPpedDoG I've seen individual pieces being sold at gun shows, and my local gun store sells each part individually. If you are refering to the buffer retainer spring ( or the buffer spring itself ) then Id recommend DSG ARMS (google it). When there click on "AR-15" then "Lower Receiver Parts". The spring you want is on page 3.
Excellent! Thanks for a great video. You forgot that darned front takedown pin. That stupid detent led me on a chase around the kitchen when it went SPROING. Tricky sucker.

The selector switch goes in before the trigger. Its impossible to do it after.

Great video, I have a question, my bolt catch is malfunctioning, is it from my hammer hiring it?
