@BeatsNKarats Zombi would be a band that touches me emotionally. watch?v=OCQKjRxY4e0 The insistent ostinato of this kind of music is trance-inducing. For something more ... arty? watch?v=_9n7S3rM1rI Joseph Schwantner. For something a bit more upbeat, Naglfar. watch?v=_T1zWLgMLFY But, really, I could just listen to Kate Bush for the rest of my life and be ok with that. watch?v=7OKxRa6GOp4
it's just that I don't see how a true music lover can't enjoy this. I mean, I couldn't possibly disagree your statements any more. I think it is extremely captivating music, I think they are playing off each other very well and with great intent/interaction ( it doesn't seem like they're in their own worlds at all to me anyway ) and I think the dynamics are great as well. Each soloist also delivers with the utmost technical & musical expression, I just can't see what's not to like...
@JmanAM200 I do enjoy it on a technical level. I'm just not enamored with the end result. Each section of the music feels like there is a niche carved out for each instrument and they never deviate from it. Maybe it's a complaint against the style, and not this particular performance? There is nothing jarring, nothing out of place. It's too neat and clean cut. Not that I require music to do that ... it's just one of many things that make this not for me. The problem is with me, not the music.
@godemp how can you say that the music is too clean cut? the whole sense of chris potter is how far outside the music he goes. that's why he's so great.
I very much dislike this. Yes, they are amazing players. Yes, their combined effort (their chemistry) is absolutely fantastic. But, none of that will make me enjoy it.
The only times this is even mildly interesting to me is when they change from one section another. Otherwise, I feel a serious lack of dynamic motion. Section for section feels like each instrument is playing in it's own box.
I have the utmost respect for this, I just do not enjoy it at all.
@JmanAM200 Why, because I don't enjoy the same things as you? Like I said, I recognize this is amazing and I have the utmost respect for them and what they do. But, I do not enjoy it. I'm bored by it and I'm not apologizing for my opinion. Whereas, after dozens of listens, watch?v=_9n7S3rM1rI (well, a full version of it, not just the first movement) is still fresh to me.
@musiclisteningful Yeah, 4:00 to 7:00 is probably the most awesome buildup I've ever heard. The drummer executes it so smoothly you barely notice it's happening. I like how early on, Potter is taking melodic ideas from Taborn.
What's up with the ending cutting off?

The audience is just staring. I didn't see anyone grooving or bobbing their head. Ridiculous.

@Flatwound1000 I would love to hear/see another recording of Train! That was probably my favorite tune from the album Follow the Red Line.
