@kuroshitsuji101 I haven't tried it but wouldn't recommend it. The flavor would still be good, but it wouldn't be as thick. If that doesn't bother you, then go for it.

@SporkyPoo It does get crystallized around the edges but there's no way to avoid it with this kind of burnt sugar recipe for caramel sauce. The finished product does not have any crystallization.

It's very good, though it's not a true caramel flavor. It tastes like burnt sugar, which is very close to caramel, but has it's own taste. try it--you will like it! I ate this whole batch on ice cream. :)
