@Scofield0085 I'm not knowledgable enough to make claims whether Dennett is doing his homework for sure or not, but as he himself says, we don't have a good working definition of "information". I agree with that. What is NOT information? Until somebody nails down the meaning of information in a non-tautological way, in a way that you can TEST for it, it seems to me that such claims about memes will forever remain in the department of philosophy only.
@PavelSTL I'm certainly knowledgeable enough to assert that Daniel Dennett is one of the smartest living philosophers. I could say that with a straight face. It isn't clear to me, however, what you took, or indeed that you took anything from this lecture. It seems like you got caught up with the term "information"
@PavelSTL I am merely reacting to the fact that you (presumably) watched the entire lecture, yet in your little comment, ambiguousness mixed with incoherence were the only factors present.
To say that memes will "forever remain in the deparment of philosophy" after listening to the entire lecture is just idiotic and insulting to Dan's efforts; many examples were cited on how memes play a significant role in culture. Also, here's a working definition for information: instructions of some sort.
@Scofield0085 my "little comment"? You just confirmed my suspicion that I was talking to either an arrogant high school kid or a moron. Listen,I totally understand that you swallow everything that comes out of "Dan's" mouth as providence and you feel compelled to immediately insult everybody who challenges "Dan". But as much as I love Dennett myself, I'm here to think and not merely give my praises to him. I'm not interested in your lame ad hom remarks. So, please piss off, like I asked you.
@PavelSTL Hey, maybe you should re-direct your comments to the topic at hand. and perhaps try to defend your view that memes are only restricted to the field of philospohy? and are of no relevance otherwise? Maybe try and evolve a definition of information? I don't enjoy arguing with you, but you certainly make it easy for me to challenge your skewed views.
"...genes are information, and SO are memes..."
Dan Dennet has-for sure-done his homework.

@Scofield0085 LOL You couldn't have come up a more irrelevant response. Never mind. I'm obviously talking to the wrong person.
