John Lennon offered invited the great saint from India, Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and his followers to live with him for a couple of months. He offered to give away 5 acres of his former Cadbury family estate in Ascot Tittenhurst estate away as a gift to the Hare Krishna devotees, and their spiritual master , Srila Prabhupada recommended that they use the land to grow their own vegetables , and wahtever excess there was could be sold at Covent Garden.
The Ouch! factor might just be the part of the song where John sings about the "girl he left behind", as that pretty much sums up what happened to his ex-wife Cynthia, she really DID get left behind, big time! ( Remember at the train station?)
Anyway, the song REALLY sounds good here, it is a definite "upgrade", and I forgot how good the simple lyrics really sound. John sounds nice and relaxed as he's singing and playing it too, which is also nice!
I remember hearing that was this take was recorded with a "boom box" in an open room. It's amazing how a good something can be and be so simplistic. This take would not have the same "magic" if it was recorded in a studio.
Sounds like Mr.Moonlight !
