Hey, three questions:

1) Do I have to use certain types of pencils? I like to use mechanical pencils, because of details I can make.

2) Why do you use a piece of paper when drawing? Is it to prevent smudging?

3) Any advice for those who want to be as good as you? I want to be a Game Character Artist and Designer, but I still need a lot of practice, since I always have a pet peeve of what I want my newest characters to look like.

And i wanted to say, to me for some reason the head, more specifically the face, doesn't meet the standards of the body. I know you spent more time on the body, and I'm not saying the face is not good, buuuut the body has awesome detail and I feel like you could have made the face more kickass.

The inside of his mouth ought to be darker, the head's a main focal point, sell it with some drama. Maybe do a little more with the teeth too...

I'd darken the right side, significantly.

@Garciart Don't copy from photos, its a worthless exercise for shading, because cameras are interpreting the lights and darks already, so you're going to be interpreting an interpretation. It wont turn out looking volumetric or real, and won't teach you anything. Every lens makes light and shadow turn out different. Draw from life, all the time. Photos are fine if you need to like, get anatomy or shape information, just not light.
