  • Really cool!It sounds like a machine gun is firing!

  • Hi. That was awesome !!! Do you remember the name of a toy raygun that had a view screen built into it which made objects seem to disappear when you oprerated it ?

  • Also known or called 'The Flying Banana'---cool toy, thanks for posting

  • whats the scale

  • Hi. Your video is cool. I have some found footage on my channel which shows a Remco Whirleybird on Christmas morning back in the sixties. The box is different from yours, and as you say, there were other variations.

  • I Hope I don't get my hand cut.

  • Hello I found one of these at a yard sale today, without the box, how much is it worth in the monkey variation, thanks??

  • im so happy i live now then 40 years ago

  • Visit our online antique toy museum on the web - BROOKLYN TOY MUSEUM 1

  • you guys should see the baby laugh alot from remco

    *shivers*

    oh my gosh.. :""O

  • I had the original model from a couple of years earlier. That one was in white plastic.

It was based on the Piaseki H-21, later to be the Boeing Vertol H-21.

The demo doesn't show the operating winch which allowed you to hook onto various cargo items (which were included).

The port side had a sliding hatch to store the cargo in. I used to put my parakeet in there and "fly" him around.

Aurora models made a nice 1/4" scale kit of it as well. I built at least 2 of them. The flying banana.

  • The winch does work. I just didn't demo it. I also have all of the tanks, trucks, cannon and soliders it came with in a sealed bag with a Remco header card. Actually, you've sparked me to re-do this vid. Your story about the parakeet had me cracking up! That is really funny. I trust the bird probably wasn't too wild about flying recon.

  • Mine didn't have the tanks and stuff as I recall.

It had crates and things like that.

I miss the cool toys I had in the 60's. Do you remember the space probe that Ideal made about 1960? It carried an astronaut that was in a sitting position and was winched out of the probe and set down into a remote controlled space car. really cool! It was in red plastic and reminded me of the ship the alien character arrived on the earth in the film: "The Man From Planet X".

  • They don't make toys like they use to

  • I want it !!!

  • I had one of those. May still have a few pieces if any one needs them.

  • Oh yeah! I had many Monkey Division items (canteen, etc.), but the Whirly Bird was to die for. What a prize you have there. That would have been a REAL thrill to have found one of those bad-boys under our aluminum Christmas tree back in '64.

  • Thanks. Remco made some awesome stuff. I was just laughing about the aluminum tree. We had one too.

  • so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • where do u get these toys?by the way nice video.

  • Thanks for the compliement. I find these items on ebay, yard sales, collectible shows word of mouth, etc. I bought this Whirlybird on ebay and I was lucky to get it.

  • i have this toy never out of the box

  • That is cool! I'm looking for a toy copter I had in the late sixties.White, plastic, blades turned and went fwd. Had 2 blades with a red and green light, one on each blade. Had 3 astronauts molded in silver plastic in the cockpit.Might have said NASA on the side.

  • Yes, it "clacks" as it rolls and I can hear it. I'm watching it now and it's "clacking" just fine. Thanks for viewing.

  • Does it make a clacking or popping sound when it is rolling (It should.)? I guess yours is probably doing that; it's just your camera's mic or the upload not letting me hear it.

  • Very cool and rare toy. It is a early 60s time capsule The CH 21 heleicpoter was used in Vietnam in the Advisour era 1961/64. As for the 'Monkey Divsion' I have faint memories of the TV adds now I know it was not a dream.I also remember the real CH 21 'Shawnee' helicopter flying around.. We called it 'the Flying Bannana' Great find on your part

  • Thanks for your comment. Yes, this version is tough to find especially in mint condition. You can find the "white" version helicopter on ebay very easily and occasionaly this version, but it is usually not complete.
