  • I met David A couple of times when I met to discuss graphics. He was a very pleasant man and I wish he could have live longer to see northern Ireland as it is today.

  • I have never known a Loyalist who has such respect amongst Nationalists as David Ervine. All of us lost a great man.

  • I'm a nationalist but I was deeply saddened by his death. He was one of the men that tried to bring the gun out of Irish politics. God bless him.

  • For ANYONE wanting a good book to read "Uncharted Waters" is as good as any I have read. I'm a Catholic but wanted to know why ordinary men/women like David Ervine got involved in "The Troubles". He comes across as sincere, truthful etc in the book. I would have voted for this guy, I never knew him, but in his later years I wish I would have. i wish there were more like him.

  • A rare specimen.... ? There lies the problem... Irish Republicans show Loyalists no respect..... i could blame all republicans with all this hate in Northern Ireland 2011 with attacts but that would be wrong... Have a open mind

  • R.I.P David you will never be forgotten.

    We Are The People

  • mc gurks bar......that yellow bent settler spawn planted that bomb....hell won't be hot enough for him and his ilk....

  • @crunchie1151 Excuse me if I'm wrong but I thought David Ervine joined the U. V. F in 1972. The bombing of McGurks Bar happened in Dec 1971.

  • The only loyalist who I can say I respect R.I.P

  • Not to many people will forget the Legend DAVID ERVINE,, At the going down of the sun........ R.I.P. Mr Ervine x

  • lest we forget. the journey isnt over yet. their is still hatred an intolerance out there.

  • bollocks!! john hume was a far better man than ervine

  • Good Riddance. Loyalists out,

  • @Saintliked "Good riddance, Loyalists out" You are American I think, right?

You are a fucking scumbag. May your Mother die of cancer, if the old whore is not already dead.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheForceOfTitan I'm not American, I'm Irish. And yes I am glad he is dead. Murdering scumbag was all he was. But now he is a martyr to the retards.

  • @Saintliked I am amember of the PUP, and a believer in democratic community politics. I have friends who are republican friends who are Unionist, friends who are Socialist, friends who are conservative friends who are Irish, friends who are British and friends who are both...

But you sir, are nothing but a bigot.

  • @MrWilman79 Same for you, asshole. I hope your Mother has cancer as well. Now get the fuck out, and stop pretending you know me.

  • @MrWilman79 your a popular gent

  • @TheForceOfTitan This was a man who wanted peace, by any means..and you are glad he is dead? You know fuck all about the politics of North/South Ireland. i hope your little brother puts a round into your thick fucking head someday..you plastic Paddy wankstain.

  • @Saintliked no way to talk about a Legend and Gentleman, lest we forget !!!

  • David Ervine - every nationalist's favorite loyalist. But why? Well this convert to socialism was given a crucial role during the peace process; namely, to outflank the unionist opposition to virtually every republican demand from constitutional arrangements to weapons decommissioning. His paramilitary background and sound-bite eloquence made up for any absent democratic mandate he may have had. Becoming in effect the sheep in wolf' clothing beseeching his pack to glorious surrender.

  • The single most engaging Loyalist character in Peter Taylor's "Loyalists" documentary.

  • Doesn't matter what peopel say and I'm imressed with the Nationist comments ......David saw the way forward....and forthat no mater what we thing or disagre with hr has to be commerated for that ....Lest we Forgot FGAU!

  • He came full circle. From anger to hate, to punishment, to thinking about just WHY he was in his personal situation. A sadly missed, powerful and human voice that was heard at just the right ime of the peace process. RIP David.

  • I regard myself a Republican but always had respect for David Irvine. He was a man of great integrity and it's a shame his voice will be absent from politics in Northern Ireland in the future

  • @Fiach2008 learn some geography........why is mizen head, which is the most northerly part of Ireland, in the Irish Republic??

Read and learn some Irish history instead of being an ignorant viewer of t.v. crap.......better still go on back home to Brigadoon......

  • @crunchie1151 I know my history. I'm well aware of my geography too. I believe Irvine was someone who put a lot into the peace process and was an intelligent man, though I didn't agree with his politics. And I think it's right to acknowledge someone who is productive in a difficult situation when his actions were often ridiculed by his own community

  • @crunchie1151 ???

  • Loyal? Certainly. Loyal to a Pope-serving German Witch. Honest? Never. He was a Jesuit temporal coadjutor like Paisley who has failed to alert his "fellow Brits" (you can count me out) that the Jesuits have controlled the entire political process in the UK for over a century. He refused to alert people that the Jesuits use the Masonic Orange Order to encourage their members to vote for the same Unionist Parties that idolaters on the mainland vote for (because they're all Jesuit-controlled)!

  • rip , terrorist will never ever win , ireland is part of britain through the ballot box not the bomb and bullet .

  • 19 bitter and twisted child killers dont like this!

  • a good man... RIP

  • A man that should be honoured in much the same way as John Hume is now being honoured. He was a very important figure in the peace process and still is. There was never any BS when it came to David Ervine. He was loved and respected on both sides of the community in Northern Ireland.

  • lots of ignorant inbred swill back from stoking the boilers in hell.....sad no bodies with no future in IRELAND.....old nick is waiting with open hooves..so go on down..

  • There is amnesty to those who committed before good Friday agreement.

  • David Ervine was what the Protestant working class people needed: an honest, courageous, intelligent, articulate spokesman. Unlike traditional unionists (UUP), he was a man of the people. He spoke from experience and from the heart.

He stood up to the right wing Unionist political hierarchy and told them that the Protestant working class were no longer going to be controlled and manipulated by them. He believed in equality, and he helped to give us peace.

    David was a good man.

    RESPECT.

  • from an republican, RIP David Ervine, turned out to be a gentleman

  • r.i.p

  • a very fine man - may he Rest in Peace

  • Another nationalist here with so much respect for the late Mr. Ervine. A total gem within unionism, a politician (and above all, a person) I'd have voted for despite my antagonism towards loyalism as an ideology. Amazing really, if we had more people like him sitting in Stormont today just imagine how different our society could be.

  • @monogirl3 like your comment TOTAL RESPECT

  • @monogirl3 like ur comments TOTAL RESPECT

  • nothing but a killer of CATHOLICS, from an inbred line of sad uneducated BRIGADOONIANS.............old nick is awaiting HIM.....ETERNITY WONT BE LONG ENOUGH, NOR HELL HOT ENOUGH FOR PRODS LIKE HIM.......if you can read?....better still get a Catholic to read a book about..WOLF TONE... . he was a true Irishman.......ND HE WAS A pROD.

  • Madiba

  • irivine/the dictionary aka the king of the cliches had a part in the mc gurks out trage.also, all you ignorant marching inbred settler spawn should l earn some history and while you are at it some geography as well.or, can't you read you dumb fucks?without your mercenary terrorists in 'your' police force you yellow inbreeds could'nt march, where the local populace did not wish you to!.here is an idea .go back and march in the misty valleys of brigadoon.the sheep may object but sure!!.

  • Davy Irvine was Legend.... " Lest We Forget "

    A U.V.F. Veteran, U.V.F. Hero

With out him there would be NO peace !

  • UP THE IRA !

  • Im a nationalist but always had huge respect for David. I have more in common with his politics than most of the politicians in the south.

  • may he Rest In Peace

  • I would loved to have seen David as Taoiseach of a 32 county Ireland. Huge respect for this man from south of the border. He had huge credibilty and is a terrible loss not only to Ulster Unionists but to all the people of Ireland

  • david sent 2 us from heaven u were r world fgau

  • A rare specimen: a loyalist with a brain, a good heart and a sense of morality and justice. Like the American sportswriter once wrote about someone else, Ervine was only truly interested in one race - the human race. RIP.

  • @FirmlyHanded As a working class Unionist who believes in power sharing and cross community healing (not to mention a proud pup member) I agree with your take on David Ervine. But I would greatly encourage you to refrain from believing stereotypes. For a natter about the situation, drop me a line chum.

  • @MrWilman79 Thanks for taking the comments in good grace. My apologies for the sweeping stroke comment on all loyalists not having a brain etc. There are exceptions, naturally, like yourself. Please try show the rest the light (not easy i know).

  • @FirmlyHanded Glad to hear from you friend. Hope you had a nice Christmas. I am on The PUP party executive now. It is slowly but surely becoming a younger party but the educational deficit and lack of opportunities among poor areas sadly breeds bigotry. And it is actually our Progressive politics ie leaving behind the "them vs us" vibe which stems our popularity among those kind of people who just want to wave flags. An uphill struggle!!! But bring it on.

  • @MrWilman79 Happy New Year and good luck with your work. Carry on the spirit of David Ervine and let's hope we can see the back of mindless bigotry and hate. Working class loyalists need an intelligent political voice and leadership. Educate to liberate.

  • MET HIM THROUGH MY FATHER,ABSOLUTE GENTLEMAN.A CREDIT TO EAST BELFAST AND LOYALISM AS A WHOLE,OH AND A GLENMAN THROUGH AND THROUGH! R.I.P DAVEY

  • From Another Catholic born Belfast boy...

This Man Made A difference to what is now N.I

His Attitude changed after meeting the father of the boy who died in the warrington bomb. i have huge respect for a man who is willing to change his belief to bring an end to murder on both sides .

    R.I.P David

  • A Great Man

  • UP THE IRA !

  • @calBHA1 SICK BASTARD!!

  • Congratulations to Dawn Puris on her courageous and principled stand against murder and facism, David Ervine would have made the same decision. Well Done Dawn, Working class loyalist communities need proper leadership.

  • A leading loyalist and a visionary, who despite being a loyalist could READ, WRITE AND THINK! Not like those daft/mad Dog muppets!!!

  • At last a leading loyalist, who learned to read and think! There greatest leader in generations!

  • reply to: lonewolf2379. I'm not sure but I think there was a general respect amongst people attending that Gerry was there like the rest of them to show respect for a man they all respected.

  • really just a great person!! I've watched interviews with the man and you can see he is as sincere and as honest as he is making himself out to be, he led loyalism in a positive direction and I think he deserves more credit than he got, he did more than Trimble thats for sure...........btw I'm a nationalist and I have huge respect and admiration for this man and any nationalist or republican who says otherwise is just a bigot.

  • DAVID TRUE MAN GREAT PRINCIPLES

  • A decent man who understood confict resolution principles.

  • david u

  • I dont think he was evil enough for his parties liking, they mightve poisoned him with something made it look like an illness, think about it though, if they did want him dead, how else could they do it, couldnt send a UFF monkey squad, theyd probably crash into a lampost before they got there, this one definetly wouldve had to be done professionally with help from the Beast rather than the monkeys

  • hes the only unionist I ever heard speak that you dont sense any hatred for Irish people from, he deserves credit for that, is it possible he was murdered by his own party or not?, paisleys been fixing things for years so that only either his son or someone else equally twisted could take over from him

  • @ShankillRoadRIRA Unlikely seeing as a) he died of cancer and b) he wasn't a DUP member so the Paisley thing is a bit silly.

  • @mattgill1992... if he died of anything, it was shame

  • @ShankillRoadRIRA

Sorry, he died of a heart attack. My mistake.

  • he was a united irsh man wolfe tone

  • No loyalist is very been an honest, peaceful man. They're murderous cunts who couldn't give a damn who they kill or how ( a bit like the IRA) except one hundred times worse

  • I think most people across the board respected David Ervine in how he helped in the peace process. He cut the BS out and talked straight.

  • As a strong Nationalist, David was always a man who I respected and who was the real deal. His family deserve to be proud of him.

  • One of the few men of vision from within loyalism. A true gent who will never be forgotten by both unionism and indeed republicanism because what you saw was what you got. He went into a school on the glen rd in west belfast and talked about what unites both communities and his vision for the north. From a catholic...

  • Glad trhe cunts dead

  • @MichelleEssex if theres any justice in the world you will be next

  • stupid commie , let the provos get power and get paid by the crown , while trashing ULSTER , fuck the pup . UP ULSTER RESSISTANCE , STILL ARMED , STILL BRITISH .

  • uvf ya bas

  • as a republican i have to say, Respect.

  • thank you cos we r not all f**kin huns we respect your fall-in as well... & they deserve respect ..but time it.. was put to

"bed " & we all get on ...............

  • This man was the way forward for N Ireland. He will be missed by all. He was the real deal. Rest in Peace.

  • If only Belfast had more people like him. If he had lived, great things could and would have been done. Rest in Peace.

  • how did he die..was it illness

  • whats the name of the song??

  • whats the name of the song??

  • David Ervine was a genuinely nice man.

  • wanker!

  • elephantstone what a useless wee knob you are.

  • RIP CROSSED BARRIERS FROM MONAGHAN

  • david ervines humanity shown through, a man who stood up for his people more than that cunt paisley ever did (who only ever stood up for himself)

  • Good honest bloke, even the opposite side can see that.

  • baldy cunt hung hiself wen he was going to be exposed for bucking wee kids in kinkora boys home fuck em

  • good bloke, well liked north and south. worked hard

  • iv good respect for that man.. his book has its place on our shelf.. he should have been in a cross border department...

  • great video for a great man!...love this video.

  • he died of shame

  • i loved listening to dave..i am from the falls, seemed genuine to me.

  • I respect you for sayin that, not many Catholics would do da same, but respect to you bro.

    From a Prod

  • Loyal Ulsterman and will be sadly missed.

  • Mr. Ervine is a case study in redemption. Sure, he was once as bad as some claim in the comments, but that's not how he ended his life.

  • I am a nationalist-But i have to say that if there was one loyalist protestant whom i respect it would have to be David Ervine-

He changed my biased and sectarian opinion's of Ulster Loyalists-May he Rest in Peace- A Great Man

  • as a unionist what you have just said sends a shiver down my spine and a real feeling of peace having a chance.

  • Comment removed

  • As a republican I must admit I respected David Irvine as he seemed to be one of the very few unionist politicians that was willing to put his hand accross the divide in the north. He once said during a public meeting in nationalist Glen Road that he looked forward to the day that Sinn Fein members could sit in a public meeting on the Shankill Road and talk about the problems our communities had to face socially. Wish there was more like him.

  • The two childish comments from calBHA and hoopenhanger can maybe be explained by the fact that after looking at their profiles one is 13 years of age ad the other a 48 year old American.

How tiring does it get reading youtube video comments from both sides talk total shit back and forth?

Decent republicans like bradley max are to be applauded.

  • i will agree with u totally as a "prod" but the reality is the prods are 2 busy fightin over who is harder & sellin drugs instead of f**kin getin with the programme & Getting better schools etc come on get a grip HOLD ON ILL SPELL IT OUT ITS GONA BE AN ALL IRE SOME DAY WAKE UP RESPECT EACH OTHER !!!!!!!!!!

  • @gary24980 As u know it was a sad case of working class people killing working class people which suited the "higher" classes. a lesson well learned that we will and should never go back to those days.

  • Comment removed

  • @bradleymax09 i liked your comment i =m a good friend of davys sons and their good people just like david and some day in the future maybe we can all learn to live together,he was a true human in his last days he fought for peace and unity,he was a humble man and a true gentleman,if only their where more people like him in ireland(which slowly but surley their is)we can live in peace and harmony and make love not war.LONG LIVE MR ERVINE MAY YOUR SOUL REST IN HEAVEN FOREVER.we forget you not.

  • @bradleymax09 im a loyalist and i agree with u 100% respect make love not war

  • is it true that adams and mcguinness went to his funeral?

  • @lonewolf2379 yep, he was a good man. and this is coming from a republican.

  • @lonewolf2379 yes

  • @hoopenhanger Completely disagree with that hoppenhanger. Uneducated? Fenian hating? How do you explain?

  • @ajpw1981 Well he did get jailed for stabbing to death a SDLP MP - Oh, and his secretary for good measure - so i suppose that could count as being a incey, wincey bit of a sectariarn monster...call me fussy if you must!

  • @katiepops77 Think yer confusing David Ervine with John White of the UDP.

As it says in the video, Davey was incarcerated for possesion of a car-bomb,

    FFS learn yer history!

  • @lonewolf2379 Yes Adams and McGuinness attended his funeral.

  • @lonewolf2379

dont know about mc guinness but defo adams was present

  • @rickjamesbitch72

how did that go down with a church full of loyalists?

but still...fair play to the sinn fein boys for doin that

  • @lonewolf2379 Yep Adams was there dont think Marty was, incredible. Awful loss to the loyalists theyve never recovered from it.

  • I have republican politics but I always had alot of respect for the man. He seemed like one of the most decent men on the loyalist side. He was reasonable.

  • i agree, he was sort of human!

  • and it's refreshing to hear some reason amidst the fog of hate. There were good on both sides!.................. but very few on their side lol! xx

  • I think its cause the majority of politics on the loyalist side has been right wing, which is never good. David was more of a socialist.

  • Ervine was a Murderer..Plain and Simple...No regrets from me..Fuck im

  • You cant think outside the box can you??? You support murders yourself but thats ok there on your side ha ha ha silly bastard

  • Haha David Ervine was lucky he didn't get a bullet to the head UP DA RA lucky boy David.

  • When you stand back and read and watch all you can about the troubles it becomes obvious that most Loyalists regret what they did in the past.

I believe deep in my heart it is because they know the ideals they fought for were so wrong and biased and sectarian that it eats at them...

I wanted to like and respect him but I cannot...

  • Bull-shit

Catholics got there rights in 1971 but the IRA fought on for a United Ireland, Loyalists and Republicans regret there actions and so they should, do you support peace??

  • One of the few NI politicians I had respect for. Sorely missed. RIP.

  • Probably the most articulate man I've ever heard. I loved hear him speaking. Instrumental in bringing loyalists away from violence. Rest In Peace.

    Kildare man

  • Somehow those are hollow words coming from a dissident republican. If anyone is on the highway to hell its you and your ilk.

  • I'm a proud dissedent republican and i don't see how the loyalists are better infact there 10x worse.

  • Does British Rule still hurt??

  • Not at all Ireland will be united in 2016 anyway :) bye bye you british bastards

    ruc - garda

    British army - Irish army

can't fucking wait irelands gain is a big loss for england does it hurt??

  • 2016 ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Our you on the glue???

  • hahaha have you seen the N Ireland nationalist/unionist statistics there is for every 2 prods in co antrim down armagh fermanagh tyrone there is only 1 catholic so yes there is a majority of unionists in 5/6 counties but the hope comes with this statistic for every 10 catholics in co. derry there is only 1 prod you do the maths.

  • Not all catholic`s support a United Ireland, look how many are in the police under the British crown ya silly cunt

  • 2nd class citizens no more..We,ve arrived boy and don,t you ever forget it.

Stormant from the early 70s is no more.

THE CROPPY,S WON,T LIE DOWN,get used to it

  • 2nd class citizens went in the 1970`s i wasnt even born ya silly cunt, stormont is still going under British Rule and i support equal rights, we all have are rights so no excuse for acting the poor boy

  • The Irish Nationalist people of the O6Cs will not be listening to your Sectarian bile for not a second longer...Stick to South East Antrim...Ervine was a cunt..big time..Now FUCK IM

  • Ervine was a good man. What makes him any different from Adams and Mcguiness both of them haven't even served time for the crimes they committed. Just because he's on the other side of the political spectrum does not mean you deliberately hate him.

  • PSNI is a police force it has members that are catholic that support a United Ireland most of their members that are catholic support a united ireland you also must remember some of the greatest republicans of all time were protestants 2016

  • So you talk for all these people ha ha ha, its a well know fact Northern Ireland has some support from catholics, check your history books fool...... you only have to look at some of the leaders of the Royal Irish Rangers for good catholic soldiers, thats right gerry said 2016 he must be right ha ha ha ha ha

  • LOL just wait no more burning of our flags no more secterian bands marching down our streets i know enough about my history but come on you should know most catholics want a united ireland when it comes witch it will Tiochfaidh ar la

  • Same old shit nothing new from you 2016 ha ha ha Our day will come ha ha ha ha Poor Reoublicans ha ha ha ha ha

CHANGE THE RECORD YA BORING CUNT lol

  • truth hurts mate and btw learn to spell?

  • Sorry the U-tube speller ha ha ha ha No come back tut tut
