us volunteers train to the same national and world standars for firefighter 1 and 2. we also make up 85 percent of the fire service. we do this for the love of fighting fire, serving the community, and to help those in need. where as its just a pay check for you. anytime you wana see a real firefighter go to you local volunteer department. and see some who does it for the love of the job.

People just don't get it... its not that easy... people lives are in your hands and its your job to make sure they come out alive. True, it does look like they are just sitting there, but the first man on the scene can be very helpful in determining what trucks to bring and if they need to call for backup. One reason the "Fire SUVs" get there first is because they dont have to suit up, all they have to do is jump in the vehicle and go, the firemen have to suit up and that could take a while.

The first thing is to check the situation: are there people trapped, is the extent of the fire maybe bigger than what is visible from the front side of the building, and so on. Only after that, the officer gives the appropriate orders to his men. So it's not a bad idea for him to arrive first, and that's why he has his own car. That's all.
