  • This track (and many others) is on an LP called "And then we wrote...." which features Flanders and Swann with a number of other artistes....this was the stand-out song, though, and I don't know how easy it would be to find the album these days....

  • I didn't think it possible that there was a F&S track I didn't know - but this was a new one to me. Thank you so much for posting it. Nearly as evocative (for me) as Slow Train.

  • @Freimaco Do you know The War of 14-18 ? Also on my channel? Not a very well known one!

  • @jonjamg No! Where are you finding these? I honestly thought I knew them all! Is there another LP or collection I wot not of?

I've listened to The War of 14-18 a couple of times now. I'm not sure what to make of it, to be honest. It's so much darker than their usual output. At the same time I can understand - I think - the sentiment behind it. Mind, I say this as a mere slip of a lass born in the late 1950s; I may have missed the point completely.

Thank you very much for uploading.

  • @Freimaco

There are a few more that I know of that I have not heard such as The Man from Aix-les-Bains, Built up area but they were written for Revues and not generally used in their own shows, so are not recorded. Have a look yourself and find a few surprises - let me know and message me - nyanko.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/fas/rare.html#ballad

  • Svar på denne video ... "The War 14-18" is, of course, an English version of the song "La Guerre 14-18", written and sung by George Brassens.

  • Aren't some of the photos genuine WW2 colour photos? (Let's say).

  • @Eddy2730 I am a F and S fan not a Tram enthusiast so cannot comment. I am afraid a Tram is a Tram is a Tram to me - sacrilege! Whatever the year! The pictures are from across the country but in amongst them are some that are bonafide towards the end ( I think!)!

  • What a lovely, if slightly mournful piece. Thank you so much for posting it.

One question, though. Where then devil did you find it?! I've been searching for this same song everywhere, but it seems that, so far as the rest of the internet is concerned, this particular song just flat does not exist.

  • @sirrliv

Do you know I cannot remember! I'll have another longer look and let you know! The Donald Swann site might have it on one of their CDs.

  • @sirrliv

Hat Trick productions have it on a 4cd set called Flanders and Swann Collectors Edition for sale on Amazon!
