Jai Ma Durga. It has been 11 years that I have been unable to attend Durga Puja but by listening to these Godly Songs and Slokas my eyes feel up with tears. Thank you for uploading. Jai Ma Durga.
Fantastic...having grown in Shri Pankaj Mallick's para and listening 2 this wonderful rendition on the Mahalaya day early in the morning..serene bliss indeed
Great memories of back home! old days when we used to get up early in the morning to listen to this program year after year. Thanks indeed to the people who made this possible today through youtube! May the Goddess bless you all! Mukundan.
the very music and visual transport myself to the simple eternally joyful days of my childhood, connecting to my home.i can lively see, feel, hear everything of Durgapuja in Autumn, though I am poorly away from................................,...a long distance!
I remember when I was a kid I would lie in bed and listen to the Mahalaya on the radio... And every house in the neighbourhood would be playing it too... It was such an awesome feeling... Thanks for the post... :-)
And Besakih on Bali - don't miss this !! A huge mother temple for all of S E Asia dedicated (in part) to Durga, the brooding setting fully creates the mood. Again worship has been going on continuously here for several hundred years - ie well before Nadia and Shovabazaar got into the act.
Clarification - While the Angkor complex spreads over several hundred sq kms, this comprises palaces, towns etc etc The temple complex itself is (I estimate) only half a dozen sq kms or so
Hi Uday. I understand what you're saying, but currently there are no standing palaces, towns, etc. that are still intact at Angkor. What is left is the stone monuments, and, if you've been there, you'd see that the walls and the outer gates are all interconnected. Angkor Wat is known the world's largest ancient Hindu complex so it's not unreasonable to have it as the thumbnail picture. I have been there five times, and I assure you if you see "only half a dozen sq km" it would not be enough.
Great presentation. But why the pix of Angkor in the beginning of what is a series of exclusively Indian images ? And if the amcient Durga worshipping diaspora's the objective, why not Prambanan, Baisakhi etc ?
So why leave out Prambanan in Java ? This is the largest Hindu temple COMPLEX in the world - about 250 temples spread over an area (if memory serves me right) of over 30 square kilometers. More importantly, there are several temples to Mahisasurmardini, and the several hundred year old idols in these would not be out of place in modern a Calcutta puja pandal: the pre medieval Indian colonizers of Java did Akalbodhan way before Krishnachandra/ Nabakrishna started off in Bengal/Calcutta.
