can't ever get enough of the MAN & His MUSIC.... Whoop~WHOOP!!!!! LOVE U ALWAYS WAYLON!!!! HOSS IS BOSS !!!!!!! STILL A STAR THAT ALWAYS SHINES UPON US :)
Loved the world much better in the 60s, 70s and early 80's with old hoss. Glad you hung around as long as you could, you seemed to get just more amused at all this all the time. Miss you hoss.
b. 1937 TX-d.2002 AZ Nickname: Hoss Was 6' tall. Married 4x; divorced 3x; 4 kids.
Married Jessi Colter in 1969 til his death.Ended a 20-year cocaine addiction in 1984. High school dropout who got his GED in 1989.Is portrayed by his son Shooter Jennings in Walk the Line (2005).
@streetjustice Are you serious? How do you know that for sure? You blew my mind. ...hehe wow....are you really serious? Its a fantastic song..doesnt matter what its about really. Not to me anyways. I just love that line- "The devil made me do it the first time- the second time I done it on my own"...I have had this album ( vinyl) for years. Grew up with the real stuff (Waylon-etc_ but I never knew,,,I think its more romantic to think of it as a guy in love with a black woman.Radical thinking
this song is about Billy Joe Shaver being thrown in jail & when his wife came to get him out she was dressed in all black. he said she looked like a black rose coming to get him. & she was so mad she left him in there for a few days. the way i found out was ......... i asked Billy Joe.
lmfao, its about an affair with a black woman?lol, guess her name was Rose huh! Good lord help some of these people. One guy claims there are plenty of Waylons out there.Really? Where at? Last i checked, there was only one. Pop country sucks and didnt think it could get any more worse, but now there tryin to push rap country. No thanks!
@35hankypanky It's about an affair with a quarter black woman. Dominicker's are a speckled black n' white chicken. So it's code, a young woman is a chick right? That would imply a half black woman: The "Dominicker Hen" as the girls mother.
@Michaeldean88 I agree with you. Heroin...pft! Its OBVIOUS what the song is about. Awesome album. Screw opinions and rumors. ...unless streetjustice can give me proof. ♥ Peace n love n blessings to ya
@NoRosesForMe Hear me out now. I've heard Shaver say it in an interview. Billy Joe Shaver's son died of a heroin overdose so it was obviously a contentious theme in his life. "A shaken hand and a bottle of gin and a rose of a different name.".
Well, he said Waylon of our time. Of course there will only be one Waylon, but if MrReider's looking for "Waylons of our time" ala outlaw country musicians with the Waylon sound out performing, that he can catch on stage NOW ... Shon Hampton, Whitey Morgan, Dale Watson, etc. are where to look.
But there will only be one Waylon. Accept no imitations.
Yep. The devil made me do it the first time... the second time I done it on my own. I never even heard this song until years after the dvil, then myself, made me do it. An absolutely amazing line, and very well delivered. I saw Waylon in Bowling Green, KY in 1977, but at the time knew only a couple of tunes.
@6Riddler6 BJS is one of the best writers. I was lucky enough to see Waylon, live, in Australia. (I'm an Aussie! Live in Australia). BJS was with him. So was Willie. BJS was smokin'. Willie was asleep. Waylon was out of this world. I was blown away to see Billy Joe Shaver on the same bill. Awesome.
the devil made me do it the first time.. the second time i done it on my own ......i can sure relate to that line lol waylon has sang alotta songs about life R.I.P waylon
@amoderndaydrifter you got that right! I had the honor of meeting him on several occasions and he was everything that he seemed to be and so much more.
After the "Waylon Live" albums (expanded versions), this is Waylon's best album thanks to songwriter Billy Joe Shaver. Other story-line albums that measure up are Willie Nelson's "Red Headed Stranger" - the best of all, and Emmy Lou Harris' "Ballad of Sally Rose." All three are must-haves for true country lovers.
Been watching, hoping someone would post this. I love this song. My favorite of Billy Joe's songs. Billy Joe is a gem. What a life he has had. His autobiography, "Honky Tonk Heroes" tells it all....Whata Life!!!!
Actually it is not a bit odd. Billy Joe Shaver wrote the song, "Honky Tonk Heroes." In fact he wrote all but a couple of the songs on WJ's "Honky Tonk Heroes" album (I have that album and love it). I love BJ he is a super nice guy and I am very proud of my picture of him hugging me. I think I will use that pic for a while...

Billy Joe's biography was called 'Honky Tonk Heroes'?? That's a bit odd; since WJ has both a song and an album named just that.
