I bought one after dropping a FORTRAN class (because I had no idea what the foreign instructor was talking about). The user's manual was so user friendly that in a couple of days I was writing original and useful programs. Later I used it in radio sports broadcasts to calculate player stats on the fly for the play-by-play announcer and for calculating local election returns. Thanks for the nice flashback.
Back in the early days you had to know at least a little about computers and programming in order to operate them and use programs. But with the advent of the mouse and the GUI all that ended. Now a monkey can operate a computer.
This is a great collector's item. My grandmother is giving me one of these soon. It has the original box, so I hope it has the tape recorder. Did that come with it? Also I hope it has some programs
@computerkid1416 That's great to be getting the computer at least! It's way easier to find a tape recorder then the computer. I see old tape recorders all the time at second hand stores and yard sales for under $5.00.
This computer was primitive even at the time. Still, it was a hit in the UK, and gave many their first taste of computing, before moving on to something more powerful like a Commodore 64 or ZX Spectrum or Dragon 32.
@MattTheSaiyan Before someone points out the obvious, when I said it was a hit in the UK, I obviously meant the Sinclair ZX81, not the Timex model made for the US.
Great video! Thnx. I still have mine since 1983 with the 16k :-). I also have mine psion 5 from the 90's. Love them more then my ipad and galaxy tab. Thnx for sharing. Patrick (the Netherlands)
@gasparem Awesome! I wouldn't have thought that a domain like that would be available to be bought. I noticed there's nothing public there yet. Got big plans?
I still got 3 of them. Gonna put one on eBay next week. But I really wanted to try out a Sinclair Spectrum. Never did back in the day as they weren't sold here in US. So I bought 3 of them this year (as is) from England before I was able to get one working by borrowing chips from the others. Its a Spectrum+ 48k. Let me know when site is up
@bamageddrain Not sure what to do with it yet. I have been so busy I have not had time to do anything more then the splash page you see. Maybe after the summer. I am doing a book tour right now. Cheers! - G
I have two (my original is still in the box)...I love this little guy so much I purchased the domain name (TimexsinclairDOTcom)...Thanks for the video.
I wanted one of these really bad when they came out. Because it was so much cheaper than anything else available at the time! I ended up with a Vic-20 instead.

@MegaRodmunch The T-1000 was my first, but I'll bet you were MUCH happier with the VIC...
