come one people now people now, gotta drive hybrids people now, hybrids are for people people now, we have all got to be people now, people now hybrid now, hybrid people driving people now, come on everybody let's be people now
@tigranvartanovitch Dave Clark didn't do "subtle" - and the late period DC5 cover versions verged from the sublime (this, Southern Man) to the ridiculous and/or superfluous. However, this arrangement is pretty inspired IMO and there is room for both versions as they are in very different styles.
HEARING THIS SONG (THINK IT WAS THEIR LAST (AS I BELIEVE THEY SPLIT UP NOT LONG AFTER THIS) I IMMEDIATELY THINK OF THE ACTOR PETER DAVISON (DOCTOR WHO, FAME) WHEN THEY FEATURED HIM ON "THIS IS YOUR LIFE" (BACK IN THE 80'S) SHOWED THE SCENE WHERE HE WAS ONE OF THE CROWD SINGING ALONG TO THIS (ON TOP OF THE POPS) THINK DAVE CLARK MADE AN APPEARANCE ON IT. IN THE SHORT TIME THEY WERE TOGETHER THEY PRODUCED ALOT OF GOOD SONGS LIKE THIS ONE.
is this thier song or is it the youngbloods coz im confused , although that has nowt to do with the fact that i droped mushies and microdots in the 80s . LOVE TO YOU ALL and peace to the world . jj7
@maddogj7, it's a Chet Powers song ("Quicksilver Messanger Service") given to the Kingston Trio (yeah those three squares!--actually Powers evidently sold it to them to get money to pay for his legal defense on drug charges) in the sixties. Jefferson Airplane turned it into a protest song in '66.
@nickswilliamson thanks this alows me to go listern to jeffers airplane and enjoy the music of the 50 60 hippy freedom movement alittle more. poor chet must be kicking himself coz this is one great song from a great period in history and i was born 65 so didnt even hear the stuff till about 84
Its sad that the DC5 couldn`t turn the corner into the 70s as their songwriting wasn`t on a par with the Beatles, Stones, Kinks and Who. They resorted to doing covers and performing odd things that didn`t quite fit their sound. Still an awesome 60s band with what they laid down from 64-68.
You cant tart up no talent with fashion to make it work ; most of their records were crap including this which is one of their worst, trying a 'Hey Jude' style poor quality rip-off this time round
notice the girl who appears at 7:55 in ths video. Isn't the same girl who appear in the famous performance of the beatles " all you need is love" ,almost at the end?
The BBC have never been allowed to repeat the original top quality transmission footage of this performance since its original broadcast, due to long term copyright proceedings with Dave Clark. The rest of the show has been broadcasted since, minus DC5.

I've just heard the Youngblood's version before this. Apart from the descant in the chorus, the DC5 have murdered the song.

The Dave Clark Five always looked uncomfortable dressed as hippies!
The Flower Power Era didn't suit them at all!
Too conservative I think?
