Benidict Arnold did indeed make many enemies with his commanders and others around him. And although he was an excelent general his vain ambission made him a slayer of thousands of men. Washington likewise had his faults and was known to have been harsh at times. Either of these men just demonstrates the fault of human charecter.
@boredlikehell2008 I think so. Would you tell us what that reference is, please?
As for Benedict Arnold, I think he was wronged by Congress. But, he also wronged those who trusted him and looked up to him. He wronged his country, he wronged his state, he wronged his homeland, and he betrayed the soldiers under his command. His reasons? For money. For rank. For pride. Do any of those sound like good reasons?
iciclethebetta- I'm not sure that that would have happened. Anyway, at the time, Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, and Georgia were dependent on slaves so it would have started another spark at becoming a separate nation. And as far as your earlier comment is concerned- Yes, and no. Honestly, heroes, villains, and those in the middle have heroic qualities and flaws. That is what makes them humans, rather than gods.
um...ok...i don't get what slavery has to do with George Washington, England actually abolished slavery BEFORE the US, so if we had stayed part of england, we would have been freed earlier.
I like him, he was very mistreated by his comrades, generals, and congress, and if the British had won, school books would say, "Benedict Arnold, Hero." And he was very nice and personable, wheras Washington was actually a very cruel man at times.
@iciclethebetta But let's be honest, any man - a General especially - willing to turn traitor because of a slight, real or perceived, is a man who had no honor to begin with.
@iciclethebetta I have read that one of the things that contributed to General Arnold's mistreatment was his arrogant character. It seems as if he may have let his pride and vanity get in the way of others creating many enemies among his fellow commanders. Too bad for him.
@iciclethebetta I think the congress knew that something wasn't right with him that was why they denied him I don't blame them in his life in England he was in debt no one liked him. There is a monument of the generals at Sagratora(sp) for him put it only state Major General never putting Benedict Arnold name there. Washington had faults he was a sexist/raciest but we have to look at the time they live in but all in all he was a great leader and he did FREE ALL his slaves.

Benedict Arnold needs to learn a lesson about not betraying.
He should stay with one side not the other. He has betrayed everyone, even George Washington.
044sakura 2 years ago 3
Sounds to me that the Imperial March should be his theme song.

@iciclethebetta If America would have stayed with England we would have been free in 1807 that's when England abolished Slavery.
