I would like to say that I about pissed myself laughing 38 seconds into the video. Baneslayer is gay and dies just like every other creature. Strong? Yes, that it is. But the best creature in the game right now? Far from it.
Baneslayer is a card you MUST deal with or you lose. That's it. Nothing more needs to be said. If you let your opponent swing just once with it, the 10 point life swing maybe too much for you to come back from.
Never have I gone out of my way to Terminate a card faster than Baneslayer Angel.
Now... does it die from creature removal? Of course it does. The only thing that would make BS more ridiculous would be if it had Protection from Red or Black instead of Pro Demons and Dragons.
I would agree that if you don't deal with the flying 5/5 monster, it WILL eat you. However, the meta is changing to where more and MORE people are playing with and against Baneslayer. When you walk in on the next major tournament you WILL expect to play against it with almost every deck that plays white. This CREATES the problem. What makes this card sick is it's casting cost and that's IT. It comes out two full turns earlier than it probably should and that's what makes it a $50 card.
Still played if it was 2 mana more? Are you kidding me? Take a look at Sphinx of the Steel Wind. That is baneslayer with +1/+1, vigilance and prot red/green for 3 mana more, and nobody would even think about that card in competitive standard.
Now the best card in the format? The better question is, what card/creature spell am i not thinking about or playing against. I saw boros EAT two Baneslayers in a row because the person playing the deck was playing smart and not necessarily against your 5/5 flying POS. The point is, Good cards win games (Baneslayer). Good Players win matches.
"The better question is, what card/creature spell am i not thinking about or playing against."
Well of course. You never know when someone is going to play a Rogue deck that no one has heard about that totally crushes the field. But that's why you have sideboards... that's why you play test. To spot those situations which might pop up in a tourney.
the only time you get a bad draw is when you don't need land and draw it i built that deck and played it since worlds

Well yeah... if it were 2 mana more and had the same ability, it would still be played but it wouldn't have the impact it has in the 5cc spot.

Sphinx is also multiple colors, Baneslayer is not.
"nobody would even think about that card in competitive standard. "
I guess the people that play where I play are scrubs then.

"for 3 mana more"
That's a huge tempo difference from 7 mana to 8 mana. There's really no comparison.

"against your 5/5 flying POS"
You can call it a POS for all I care, I know this... you MUST play around it or die to it and that's what makes it a 50+$ card.
I don't play it. But I damn well respect it.
"The point is, Good cards win games (Baneslayer). Good Players win matches. "
Heh. Won games usually lead to won matches.
So if you have a good player which plays a good card... according to your thinking, you might as well scoop :D
