Mine's pretty clever- if he's not hungry and there are crickets in his tank, he'll let them go near him, walk over him, even clean him! When he does get hungry again... the crickets never see it coming. XD
i spoil my emp to hes gettin fat though maybe he should cut down o i get him a treadmill lol thats what my sinweaver aka my scorp does enters from back strang
Dude, go buy a thermometer (they are very cheap), the ones that you stick inside the tank, you need it. If its too cold, the scorpion will burrow to get warmer. A heat pad is good to have as well. Don't worry though, he'll start eating.
Should I get a male to accompany the female? Or should I just wait for this one to get better? Hmm I was always told that if it's too warm, the scorpion would burrow (which is why the guy at the pet store told me to avoid getting a heat pad; if it gets too hot, the scorpion will unknowingly burrow closer to the heat source, killing itself). Thanks for your help =)
Well, you gotta be careful. I wanted to get a female to accompany my male, but if they mate she'll most likely kill the male. It's up to you, I decided not to. Nope, if it's too cold the scorpion will burrow. If the tank is too hot, the scorpion will surface, not burrow. At least mine does. The heating pad is right underneath his cave, so if it's too hot he'll go sleep on his rock.
All right, she finally started eating...but only with my help...I had to pesture her for a couple of minutes with the super worm, until she finally just grabbed and started eating it. She's eaten twice (maybe three times, because I left a cricket in the tank, which magically disappeared), and both times I had to kind of force her...=\
Haha sounds like my scorpion at times. I think I spoil him too much though. That's cool yours ate the super worm...mine just pinched it and took it for walks haha then left it to rot and never ate it. He just mainly likes crickets so I have all these superworms for nothing. I'm sure she's fine, she's probably still adapting :)
Well ever since I got it, I left a couple of crickets in the tank, they'll literally touch her, and she'll simply ignore them. Some article on the net claimed that a possible reason for them not eating, is if they are cold. It's weird, really, since I keep a special infrared lamp (some lamp used for lizards and arachnids in a tank, that was suggested by the guys at the pet store) on for most of the time. I'm going to go over to the Pet Store today to try and figure out what's wrong. =/
Well, it's best to put only cricket in at a time because I've read several articles stating that the scorpion feels intimidated (funny i know). My scorpion went two weeks without eating once. Really, I don't think you have anything to be worried about. What temperature is your tank at right now? I leave my lamp on 24/7 and i have a heating pad underneath the tank. Keeps it at perfect temperature.
hmm temperature...no idea lol. I'll take one of the crickets out (your response to that makes perfect sense). And yea, I spoke with the guy at the pet store and he told me that it may still need to get accustomed to the environment. I'm planning on getting a male tomorrow, and possibly a heating pad (it's cold as shit in my room).
ahahahaha, even though he'll take a few steps...stop....take a few more steps...stop... lol. The only time he consistently runs is when he's in a bad mood and I mist down his tank and he runs into his cave.
It depends on the owner/trainer. Any animal can be trained with the proper understanding and personality. Look at showbears and lions for example. It's just a matter of learning their language and getting them to trust you.
I've had my emperor since Boxing Day and he has never stung myself or my boyfriend. Nor has he used his stinger on his prey before. He is a male as well. I've read that females mostly use their stingers whereas males seldom do. He walks all over us no problem. We take him out quite frequently as well. He hasn't pinced us either.

Scorpions are weird like that I find. They really just pick and choose when they are hungry. What are you trying to feed yours?

There insects they can be desensatised to being handled but will still sting easily if spooked or provoked

Have you tried feeding him prey of equal size? They'll make him use his stinger I think.
