Using coffee as a metaphor for alcohol is pretty self-explanatory. Look at it like this; The waking people represent mass society, and the sun people represent mass religion. The only practical way for mass society to deal with religion is to ignore it... One coping mechanism is to drink till you don't care.

In fact, I'm going to go out and buy Folgers Coffee specifically because of this commercial (and also because the cheap store-brand stuff tastes like someone somehow managed to burn vinegar...). @hydraulicsd1 lol, the worst was getting up at 3 am & drive way out west of auckland to do the shooting! but the best was all the music & merriment, because we really sang & danced it! my son was "golden elvis" at the front of the procession, but you can hardly see him. it was a hoot because he's actually quite dark, with black eyebrows...they gave him a gold wig & ronald mcdonald outfit, & painted his skate shoes yellow!!!

this is the only place u can c this fun saatchi ad anymore! i found my filming notes: my AD contact was Steph, call time 7am at studio 3, 12 hickory ave, out in henderson (west auckland, & we were told 2 wear yellow! i remember it was shot around april in 2006 just before we did a "Day Zero" shoot during 17-19th april at 75 st marks pl...in some sort of "holiday cocktail lounge"...lol, lots of work before the Meltdown! cheers for views guys! the story going after we did this & started looking 4 ourselves online (fellow actors) was that folgers intended 2 air it the following superbowl, but had indications that it would be a 'love it or hate it' reaction from viewers. they totally cancelled it then, since while it was briefly online, it got way too many "this is so creepy" comments! it's a brilliant piece: how it portrays one's irrational state when overtired! goofed up on 'sleepybugs' in the morning...happiness seems tacky, lol!

Because I have a vivid memory of seeing this on tv and going "WTS!!" and then running to google it to show everyone.
