What hilarious macho crap! Worst lyrics ever written. Basic blues that any 1st year guitar player can play, rehashed for the ten millionth time. The worst of Led Zeppelin's post 73 crap mixed with hair-metal Whitesnake big-willie barf. This sucks so bad it makes me nostalgic for early 80s New Wave. These greedy, whoring, pandering 70s dinosaurs 100% deserved to have Punk Rock & New Wave & even Disco kick their teeth in in the late 70s and 80s. Like DEVO said: We're Through being 'Cool'
@metamorphosis67 Your site has the background of King Crimsons Court Of The Crimson King. You sure you understand it ? Maybe that's why you got sucked into punk tat, thrash guitar and a few swear words. If that floats your boat great. But don't peddle your crap and display a 70s iconic album on your page. Now morph back to your bedroom get your tennis racket out and pretend to be Steve Jones.. I take it you know who that is ?
@metamorphosis67 under a monitor and behind a desk every idiot pretends to be something. typical loser who is a failure in life and because of this has issues..
@metamorphosis67 Through Being Cool was Devo's way of saying we're a washed up one hit wonder. Somebody like us please. I'm sure they appreciate your support. Punk never kills anything other than itself. The moment a punk band becomes popular they are labeled as pop due in large part to punk fans disowning them. Tell yourself whatever you need to hear macho man.
Had tickets to the concert in St Louis... cancelled... damn. I wanted to see Coverdale as Plant, and Jimmy doing Whitesnake... they had me on both fronts...
jimmy page wrote this for him and plant but plant was into his solo career and he joined up with a plant clone, coverdale, who's not too bad, but hes no robert plant, its funny, even his name invokes copy, coverdale, hes covering plant!!!
Page stated in several interviews when this came out that this was a late-era Zeppelin riff that no one but Bonzo really understood. Maybe he was taking a gratuitous jab at Rob in the press (the nature of things at the time) but I do know that he nurses these riffs for years sometimes, and it's cool to think of him pulling out some Zep-era gem occasionally. I think it came out really well here. Great fucking album that was really underrated. Check my channel for some good raw blues, btw...
Everyone can take this with a grain of salt, but my own personal opinion is that this song was best performed with Page and Plant back in 1995. Page really brought the house down when he used the theramin in the middle of the song. Page and Plant gave this song a Led Zep sound when performed live. It sounds like a spinoff from "Nobody's Fault But Mine." They just took Shake My Tree to a higher level. With Page's wizardry and Plants vocals, ya can't go wrong on this sone.
This is probably the first and only album since Deep Purple's "Stormbringer" David Coverdale was'n't able to replace the guitarist.... By the way, I'm just kidding. Coverdale wrote half of DP's "Burn" and most of "Stormbringer", wich to me validates about all personell changes Mr. Coverdale has seen fit on any given time in the existence of Whitesnake. IMHO Jimmy Page shines as much on this album as Moody did on Snikebite, Sykes on 1987, Vai on Slip Of The Tongue and Vandenberg on Starkers!!!!
@CastAirLead Same here. The kind of high pitch, scratchy, "cock rock" singing that became trendy in the second half of the 80's and was on it's last leg in '93 was never my kind of style. The only singer who sings like that I like is Brian Johnson from AC/DC. That said, this is a good album, musically. Page kicks major ass here. Those who say Coverdale sings like Plant, BS. They both sing high but there's a difference.
@ToddSweeneyOnce The bottom line is Hendrix was an amazing Gauitar soloest. and even led zeppelin had to bow down to him. he was the best. point blank period.
@Xbot70 What are you basing that on? What did Hendrix do that was better than what Page did? Don't get me wrong, Hendrix was a great guitarist, but he wasn't the greatest, imo. For example, the show at Monterey was great, but smashing your guitar and lighting it on fire doesn't require guitar playing ability. It is a shame that died so young. Btw, thanks for not cussing and hurling insults because we don't agree. There's way too much of that on YouTube already and it's not necessary
@Xbot70 You know, I wish Jimi had have lived. It would would be interesting to see what direction he would have gone with his playing. You may well be correct, Jimi may have done more than Page, but it would have taken a monumental effort, Page is that good, imo. Peace, my young brother.
Coverdale and Page did well teaming up with one another.Dave has a very natural blusey, raspy voice and with Page killer riffs, this tune just oozzess "Rock"!
@ryancadams page always spoke of his heroes! put his magic on it!! and created the greatest rock guitar on record!! then destroyed the crowds!!! wake up!!!!!
@ryancadams - Jimmy Page and Ritchie Blackmore wrote every rock riff ever used from the beginnings of rock and roll to the present. That includes stuff from the 1940's to the 2050's. 'Nuff said.
too many great guitarists to rank, not easy for sure...clapton, trower, gallagher, van halen, blackmore, may, lifeson, emmet, lynch, sykes, wylde...too many styles, so much greatness...enjoy it all!
I like your view. I have always hated the best this or that. Every player, singer, band, etc. brings their own thing. I personally love every person you mentioned, but all so different, but all are valid.
@ryancadams I couldn't DISagree more. Page was one of the best, And Hendrix, argueably the best ever. But I know what you mean, its just a matter of taste. The same arguement could be made for Clapton, or Stevie Ray Vaughn. Maybe even Alex Lifeson. Think about it.
this album is what pissed off robert plant ,cause david coverdale is his lil clone and thats y jimmy and robert got back together and i told my brother when this album came out that it would happen
well in that case you should know about all the blues songs Zep plaguerised from your heritage, and passed of as their own..as for Hendrix being sloppy live well you could say the same about Page..I guess 'musical skill' is highly subjective thing..
im mean it so safe isnt it to you middle americans, to have your rock music presented by nice white middle class english man..its kind of 'pretend' danger..than a freaky looking black man who grew up poor and was living on the streets till he made it..is just too distrubing...that is the bottom line.
Jesus..you middle americans..Page is awesome indeed, but check out Hendrix Killing Floor at Monterey and Machine Gun live at the Filmore...if you cant appreciate why he seen as the best then your tone deaf and know nothing about music.
the whole of Zep and their particular alchemy is equal to one Hendrix..sorry Page worshipers..
hendrix could be incredibly sloppy live, and a lot of his music disintegrated into a sonic soup of noise because of the influence of drugs live. he was incredibly innovative, but not the best.
and before ou pull the 'nice white middle class english man' on me, I'm black. This has nothing to do with race, but musical skill.
I'd say he's better than Hendrix. Page is able to play all kinds of music in various styles (look at Led Zep III). Hendrix only had one sound....a dirty, gritty, feedback sound. Hendrix and Keith Richards are more similar in style. Play Hendrix on an acoustic guitar and it doesn't sound that special. Play Page's stuff on an acoustic and it sounds good. Hendrix's claim to fame is feedback and wah wah pedal. I don't see why people worship Hendrix unless it's because he's dead.
@pbvina i'm not a guitarrist, i'm a drummer. But i dare saying that your wrong about hendrix. He's got reasons to be worshipped. I cant name them because I know almost nothing about guitar playing, but so many people look up to him, there must be a reason, he was a legend even before his death. And yes, Jimmy is incredible too.
@Piclemania Pay no mind man. It's just another one of those musical comparison arguments. Just a who's better than who competition which is senseless. Nobody can enjoy music anymore, it's always gotta be a contest with everyone. I'm glad you're a level headed musician that enjoys the groove. Keep hitting them skins man, rock and roll.
@pbvina I agree. I'd also say he's better than Hendrix because he's in his 60s now and still playing and learing. Hendrix died when he was 26.... chump had a lot more to learn...
some people need to check their hearing becouse if you can't tell the difference between Plant and Coverdale then why do you bother to listen to this stuff?Dave is a bit more versatile then Robert but they're both great singers in their own way..you just can't compare two singers,is just wrong and stupid!my top 5 singers in rock music are-D.Coverdale,Axl Rose,Geoff Tate,Sebastian Bach,Burton Cummings(the guess who)....the list is random by the way
yessssssssssssssss page kicks ALL guitar players butt's hahahahahahahahah he blows them all away.his work in the studio is amazing.the way he aranged the songs just beautiful.i liked the tones he got in the studio.this song was recorded on the gold trans performance les paul you can hear the tunning changes very subtle but also very ear cathcing.this dude is a mad man as a producer.if i ever make it big i know who i want to produce my album ;)weeeeeeeeeee go pagey
I loved this when it first came out, & I still love it. I think his (Page's) collaboration w/ D Coverdale produced better songs than Walking Into Clarksdale, his reunion cd with Robert Plant. Mr. Coverdale may sound more like Plant than he normally does, but working with Jimmy Page, that's to be expected, and the teaming of this pair brought out the best in each. Musical chemistry is a mysterious thing, but in the long run, who cares? Just sit back and Enjoy....
When I first started listening to this, a minute or so in, I thought I heard Plant's vocals. Soon, when it started to sound like Axel Rose, I realized that it was just coverdales plant impersonation... If I was wrong though, I would have to jizz my pants
Great collaboration ... would have been much better if David Coverdale had sung the songs like David Coverdale instead of doing a Robert Plant impression. It's a shame.
This the most underrated work of Page's career. Personally, I feel it was the last great album he had left in him. By far his best solo album and best post -Zeppelin work overall. Coverdale is always great and I knew this pair should have hooked up long before "93.
@LOVELED1 Dude...I have to take issue with what you wrote; "He" as in Jimmy Page is as GREAT as Jimmy Hendrix ? What ? Come on bro...think it thru...Jimmy Page is in a class by himself isnt he? Id say Hendrix is in a class by himself too however...just the fact alone that Page survived the sisxties & seventies without killing himdelf thru self indulgence suggests to me that he...Jimmy Page is way and I say way beyond Hendix in production, accomplishment and probably influence although Hendrix...
@softhotty I have to agree that Page is in a class by himself. So many other guitarists have tried to imitate his style but he stands atop. I like what you say about Page having survived the sixties and seventies "speedballing" with all the coke and heroin that all of them did, it's a wonder that he's still alive today. Jimmy Hendrix "was" completely hands down the best and invented a lot of the various sounds that many guitarists use today. :)
@z1inspector yes it was but coverdale and page use slightly different lyrics if you listen to the live version that page and plant do plant sings the song different.
@90zosoman09 it is a coverdale page song that plant page covered.. Coverdale wrote the words.. Plant just sang other words to make it more "his" I suppose
man, I remember when this came out, seems like yesterday. remember working at a specific factory when the radio used to jam this like twice a shift at least! by the way, that factory has moved to china since. oh, the memories!!
Jimmy Page sounds stronger here than he does in any of The Firm albums, although I love those too. This is one of my favorite songs!

Love this... sorta like the "Wanton Song". Sounds a lot like the same riff at the 2:01 and 4:23 marks.

This the most underrated work of Page's career. Personally, I feel it was the last great album he had left in him. By far his best solo album and best post -Zeppelin work overall. Coverdale is always great and I knew this pair should have hooked up long before "93.

I personally think Jimmy Page would go good with any decent singer.

Coverdale can't humm like Plant. Whata great song though. Got Led Zep written over it through and through.

working with Page must be such an honor for any artist , he is as great as Hendrix but he is not dead

@softhotty Both of them are gods, just doesn't matter.

@LOVELED1 Well, being dead doesn`t make Hendrix a lesser artist. :). Latest news on his death say that he has been actually killed..
