The car wasn't really blocking the way, also it is standard procedure to slow down at intersections, so those of you who think it's because of the driver he slowed down: Do you think, even if the driver has a massive firetruck, he will just barge into an intersection?
The city that i live in, firefighters have the ability to make lights turn green for them, so that they always have the right of way. This is the only city in the United States where firefighters can do that. :-)
If you look carefully the engine has to brake before proceeding because of traffic. . When the driver sees it is safe to proceed he does. This is not what I would call "busting" an intersection. It is true people don't get out of the way and pull to the right as they are supposed to by law. They just stop. I see it every day.
People now days are so dum because when the see a Big Fire Truck heading towards them with all it lights and sirens on, they just stop in the middle of a street, right in front of a big red rig.. They must have a death wish.
@HyperFoxTails By the time they pull over the Big Fire Truck (that needs to be capitalized?) will have already passed. The truck has lots of space to get by.
Hate to say it being an american but most americans are to PIG headed to care about anyone but themselves. My generation forward = morons that only care about themselves and not the wellbeing if their neighbors too.
I would not say MOST Americans, but there is a small percentage that would hold true to what you are saying. Look at the wonderful contributions made to Haiti by the U.S. citizens. It is not most cars that do not move out of the way, but one or two out of dozens that make everyone look bad.
its hard to judge on this case, there where vehicles in the flow and the light/interection appeared to be stopped, the engine could have come to complete stop, but they didnt just blow through either. and firemans comment its not just volunteers getting killed in route!!!!
Nice driving. People these days can't hear the sirens; windows up in a air tight car, on the phone, and radio on. These people don't know what color the car in front of them is much less that there is a big truck coming right at them.
Yes its true that deaf people cant hear the sirens but honestly there is a bigger chance that someone will get hurt in the fire than by a firetruck going through a light.
If i remember the statistics right, the second deadliest time pertaining to fire runs is getting there and coming back. I think #1 is still cardiac from over exertion. Response injuries probably a bit skewed thanks to the volunteers who think hitting the flashers on their pickups constitutes emergency lights and the right to run others off the road. The guy in this vid messed up majorly.
oops, other comment meant for another vid, in case i forget to edit. I don't see anything wrong with this particular driver. I consider "busting" blowing through full steam without slowing.
A siren is great, if you can hear it. It will do nothing to warn a deaf person. A firetruck can easily hide behind a building or a large sign, that's why slow to a stop and clear the intersection before crossing.
There are plenty of deaf people behind the wheel of a car, like my wife.
I was wondering, how do you feel about sirens in relation to deaf people? I was a little unclear on that. I think they ought to do something to emergency vehicles to make them more VISIBLE, as well as audible. Perhaps some bright, flashing lights. Nah, that's dumb. Let's put big flags on them.
The fire apparatus have plenty of emergency lights... How about a device, that could be attached to the dashboard for the deaf drivers that would detect siren, airhorns, train crossing bell, etc. sounds and would flash a warning light.
@Doczaff people who are deff should not be able to drive just for that reason. being able to hear someones horn or a train or sirens are part of driving.
Sirens are great, for the those that can hear. The reason why you slow way down and stop is to make sure that deaf person that is approaching the intersection at the same time can SEE you. You can't always count on a siren.
Believe it or not a fire truck can hide behind things like buildings, large signs, trees, big trucks and other obstructions.
In this case it was fine, in a less open intersection a slow and go could be a problem.
When you hear an emergency siren, get the HELL out of the way! That ambulance or firetruck or police car may be on its way to save your loved one. You'll learn to obey the law when you find out that the emergency vehicle's 'slow' response time was directly responsible for your mom's death. Think about that. You'll be very happy when you see everyone pull over and yield to emergency vehicles... especially when that ambulance is coming to save YOU.
When the loss of your loved one is directly attributable to the 'slow' response time of emergency vehicles, you''ll learn to pull to the right and stop your vehicle. Always yield to fire trucks and ambulances. You will be thankful when all drivers do this... especially when that ambulance is coming to save YOU.
Do you have any idea how many traffic lights there are here? At a minimum cost of $6000 per light for a city experiencing a financial crisis I am sure that the powers-that-be would shy away from that right now. Perhaps in the future.
opticoms are not needed, fire apparatus can go through a red light they just have to stop first to check that it is clear, it wouldnt change more than a couple of seconds
Looks to me like they slowed down and looked before going through the light. You cannot see everything in the video. Is the cross traffic stopped ? You can't see if it is or not. Give them a break.
Ha, lol read higg77 then doczaff's responce lol :P and of course they dont have to obay the law who's gonna stop them the cops? lmfao. and it's there fault if something happens to them. your just jelouse that they have priviledges and you dont. :PPPP
just because you are in a big red truck with lights and a loud siren doesn't mean you don't have to obey the law. how many guys on that truck were wearing seat belts i wonder?
There's a law stating that all first responders in a responce vehicle MUST wear seatbelts. And most do. And there's a reason they have "a big red truck with lights and a loud siren." It's to tell idiots like you to GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY.
higg... really? You must be one of those guys who say get rid of firefighters they are pointless huh? Yea you know you are. We all wear seatbelts in the truck know how i know? I've seen newguys try to jump out of a truck on scene and relized they put on their coat and SCBA on OVER their seatbelts. Quit being ignorant, so your saying, if your house catches on fire you want the truck to stop at every red light and stop sign and obay the speed limit? trust me keep talking like this and we will
actually, they were obeying the law. they can go through intersections with lights and sirens as long as they make sure that the coast is clear. don't talk out your ass
um actually you do have to stop what if you keep going and catch up to another car and block his way.
the truck is going fast so the driver cant wait for you to speed up and get out of the way so he will have to switch lanes to the oncomming trafic which isnt verry safe.
believe it or not.. i witnessed one instance where a car ran a green light and stuck a firetruck with the sirens and light going of. I was amazed at how he did not see that big red fire truck or how did the driver not hear the sirens going off.
Thats not true I am an EMT, and I have to take the same course as the firefighters to be able drive, you have to stop at every light, and treat every lane as a separate intersection.
lmao yes u are by law on the way to a call u can run an intersection as long as its clear of uncoming cars however on the way to the hospital is when the driver is supposed to slow or stop ima ambulance driver
Cause im sure of all of you who sit on here all damn day have driven in an emergency situation under code 3 conditons... untill youve taken the class and actually done it shut your damn mouths and next time you see a truck racing down the road with lights and sirens salute the poor bastards on it who might have missed dinner, or a date, or there own baby being born
That guy should've pulled to the right. But the firefighter was being a bit of an ass pulling right into the guy almost. Why couldn't he have continued going straigh.
I didn't see anything wrong with his driving...Fire apparatus and police are allowed to proceed through stop signs and red lights when running lights and siren, provided they use due caution. He didn't blow through the intersection at high speed. He slowed down, appeared to verify that traffic was holding from both directions, then proceeded through as quickly as possible. Just because he didn't come to a complete stop doesn't mean he was driving unsafe.
exactly im tired of watching all these damn vids where people are saying that the trucks should come to a complete stop at an intersection.i say put a cattle guard off a locomotive and floor it all the way thru.
According to a report recently published by the United States Fire Administration, More than two of every 10 firefighter fatalities in 2007 occurred when responding to or returning from an incident. The report indicates that speed was a contributing factor for most of these incidents.

Wow I've never seen a fire truck in my entire life. They must be on the endangered species list. Not.

everytime i hear a fire truck siren i think of 9/11 these days. haunting sound but yet heroric
CelticAndProud 2 years ago
I totally agree
countryboy44555 2 years ago
Nice driving. People these days can't hear the sirens; windows up in a air tight car, on the phone, and radio on. These people don't know what color the car in front of them is much less that there is a big truck coming right at them.
theedevious1 2 years ago 2
lol thats the benefit of the q siren... 128 decibels at 10 feet
UberNoobtard 2 years ago
Yes its true that deaf people cant hear the sirens but honestly there is a bigger chance that someone will get hurt in the fire than by a firetruck going through a light.
jablesrolland08 2 years ago
If i remember the statistics right, the second deadliest time pertaining to fire runs is getting there and coming back. I think #1 is still cardiac from over exertion. Response injuries probably a bit skewed thanks to the volunteers who think hitting the flashers on their pickups constitutes emergency lights and the right to run others off the road. The guy in this vid messed up majorly.
Fireman27852 2 years ago
oops, other comment meant for another vid, in case i forget to edit. I don't see anything wrong with this particular driver. I consider "busting" blowing through full steam without slowing.
Fireman27852 2 years ago
A siren is great, if you can hear it. It will do nothing to warn a deaf person. A firetruck can easily hide behind a building or a large sign, that's why slow to a stop and clear the intersection before crossing.
There are plenty of deaf people behind the wheel of a car, like my wife.
PetrolJunkie 2 years ago
I was wondering, how do you feel about sirens in relation to deaf people? I was a little unclear on that. I think they ought to do something to emergency vehicles to make them more VISIBLE, as well as audible. Perhaps some bright, flashing lights. Nah, that's dumb. Let's put big flags on them.
DonLangosta 2 years ago
The fire apparatus have plenty of emergency lights... How about a device, that could be attached to the dashboard for the deaf drivers that would detect siren, airhorns, train crossing bell, etc. sounds and would flash a warning light.

@Doczaff That's a great idea!
lukey123MW 1 year ago
@Doczaff people who are deff should not be able to drive just for that reason. being able to hear someones horn or a train or sirens are part of driving.
josiahg09 1 year ago
@josiahg09 Deaf people can drive safely by observing warning lights. Probably a lot safer than those that text and drive that are not deaf.

They made Rumblers to help the issue with Deaf drivers.

baguetteman69 1 year ago
Sirens are great, for the those that can hear. The reason why you slow way down and stop is to make sure that deaf person that is approaching the intersection at the same time can SEE you. You can't always count on a siren.
Believe it or not a fire truck can hide behind things like buildings, large signs, trees, big trucks and other obstructions.
In this case it was fine, in a less open intersection a slow and go could be a problem.
PetrolJunkie 2 years ago
When you hear an emergency siren, get the HELL out of the way! That ambulance or firetruck or police car may be on its way to save your loved one. You'll learn to obey the law when you find out that the emergency vehicle's 'slow' response time was directly responsible for your mom's death. Think about that. You'll be very happy when you see everyone pull over and yield to emergency vehicles... especially when that ambulance is coming to save YOU.
PutSome5tankOnIt 2 years ago
When the loss of your loved one is directly attributable to the 'slow' response time of emergency vehicles, you''ll learn to pull to the right and stop your vehicle. Always yield to fire trucks and ambulances. You will be thankful when all drivers do this... especially when that ambulance is coming to save YOU.

nice vid, really liked how the driver demonstrated "Due Regard", by slowing down and making sure they had a clear intersection.

This city needs to invest in the opticom system, it would have cycled the light green for that emergency vehicle.
vegasmoto 2 years ago
Do you have any idea how many traffic lights there are here? At a minimum cost of $6000 per light for a city experiencing a financial crisis I am sure that the powers-that-be would shy away from that right now. Perhaps in the future.
Doczaff 2 years ago
opticoms are not needed, fire apparatus can go through a red light they just have to stop first to check that it is clear, it wouldnt change more than a couple of seconds
nhfdcadet 2 years ago
Looks to me like they slowed down and looked before going through the light. You cannot see everything in the video. Is the cross traffic stopped ? You can't see if it is or not. Give them a break.

Ha, lol read higg77 then doczaff's responce lol :P and of course they dont have to obay the law who's gonna stop them the cops? lmfao. and it's there fault if something happens to them. your just jelouse that they have priviledges and you dont. :PPPP
totalrcfreak 2 years ago
just because you are in a big red truck with lights and a loud siren doesn't mean you don't have to obey the law. how many guys on that truck were wearing seat belts i wonder?
higg77 2 years ago
All of them.
Doczaff 2 years ago
There's a law stating that all first responders in a responce vehicle MUST wear seatbelts. And most do. And there's a reason they have "a big red truck with lights and a loud siren." It's to tell idiots like you to GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY.
SaulstonVFD 2 years ago 3
Interesting. In NYC, first responders are actually not required to use seatbelts.
R0OM237 2 years ago
higg... really? You must be one of those guys who say get rid of firefighters they are pointless huh? Yea you know you are. We all wear seatbelts in the truck know how i know? I've seen newguys try to jump out of a truck on scene and relized they put on their coat and SCBA on OVER their seatbelts. Quit being ignorant, so your saying, if your house catches on fire you want the truck to stop at every red light and stop sign and obay the speed limit? trust me keep talking like this and we will
marines13r 2 years ago 2
actually, they were obeying the law. they can go through intersections with lights and sirens as long as they make sure that the coast is clear. don't talk out your ass
dandoosh90 2 years ago
thats looks like a brand new truck
trucker1290 2 years ago
you do not have to stop just slow your speed, you have lights,horn,sirens...big red truck who wouldnt see that ?
3hree6ix 2 years ago 3
um actually you do have to stop what if you keep going and catch up to another car and block his way.
the truck is going fast so the driver cant wait for you to speed up and get out of the way so he will have to switch lanes to the oncomming trafic which isnt verry safe.
victorilubiano 2 years ago
oh hey my bad replying to somone else but i think i hit ctrl and r at the same time so i commented on yours by mistake
victorilubiano 2 years ago
believe it or not.. i witnessed one instance where a car ran a green light and stuck a firetruck with the sirens and light going of. I was amazed at how he did not see that big red fire truck or how did the driver not hear the sirens going off.
mnr8788 2 years ago
Thats not true I am an EMT, and I have to take the same course as the firefighters to be able drive, you have to stop at every light, and treat every lane as a separate intersection.

MIDSCAR1 2 years ago 6
lmao yes u are by law on the way to a call u can run an intersection as long as its clear of uncoming cars however on the way to the hospital is when the driver is supposed to slow or stop ima ambulance driver
soli787 2 years ago
well the driver of the fire truck honked this horn so really he was being safe
CrooksB2008 2 years ago 4
Honking your horn doesnt make you safe, thats just making sure that people hear you, but not see you!

I like the part about the cattle guard. It would work with pedestrians too.

Oh well. I support you still.

where are you talking about.the ass just sits there and the truck pulls along the left side of him
robby844 2 years ago
If you think it is that easy to drive a fire truck like that perhaps you should take the training and become one.
Hell i don't drive one, but even i know it isn't as easy as it looks.
RandyDarkshade 2 years ago
I didn't see anything wrong with his driving...Fire apparatus and police are allowed to proceed through stop signs and red lights when running lights and siren, provided they use due caution. He didn't blow through the intersection at high speed. He slowed down, appeared to verify that traffic was holding from both directions, then proceeded through as quickly as possible. Just because he didn't come to a complete stop doesn't mean he was driving unsafe.
gil2264 2 years ago 5
exactly im tired of watching all these damn vids where people are saying that the trucks should come to a complete stop at an intersection.i say put a cattle guard off a locomotive and floor it all the way thru.
robby844 2 years ago 5
nicely said !

According to a report recently published by the United States Fire Administration, More than two of every 10 firefighter fatalities in 2007 occurred when responding to or returning from an incident. The report indicates that speed was a contributing factor for most of these incidents.
