the thing is DK can break free from arthes controll cause they have a mind unlike all the other undead arthes amde DKs to have people to controll his armys and stuff so they have to have a mind to find stuff out there for they must have a soul somehow so that would make them human or alive but followers of arthes and have the powers of a lower form of arthes DKs are kinda half dead half alive type thing

I think you see the death knight the wrong way.....A soulless death knight of the lich king WOULD NOT have a son. and finally, it'd make a lot more sense for a paladin to have a son who escaped a death knight massacre or something. you diserve a swift kick to the balls you do.

there are 2 types of death knights, one is a death knight whom was a paladin at one time and then forsakened it and not being able to use light spells, becamse a death knight, the other is a fallen corpse whom then a soul is put into that body this method is used most by arthas.

The soul put in a corpse was used by Ner'zhul or Gul'dan i cant remember which if not both used it. Arthas just reanimates the corpses.

The first Death Knights were created when fallen knights had a different soul placed in their corrupted bodies. As far as anyone knows, only one or two of these remain. (The WC2 Dk's). Arthas' Death Knights are different though. Not knowing all the lore, I think that they are warriors who "sold their soul" in a way to get the power of the DK. As the creation story says "Once a hero, but no more."

Actually the way that the Death Knights works in the next expansion, you get struck down by Arthas by Frostmourne and the new character you make, is not consumed by the Lich King's control.. so I'd imagine some Death Knights would have escaped and lived normal lives hidden from everyone else.
