If you romance him, he still puts all the other mages before you. Plus, if you romance Fenris and get to the final battle, you get a VERY HOT kiss scene, that you don't get with others!!!!!!

This really makes me feel sick though; just the whole scenario. He didn't even fight back; you can just feel the total crushed-ness of his spirit. And he had the red armband, which means the wound is much more then just some other human betraying him, but someone he loved...

I, however, being a pro-mage person as mentioned before, favor Anders over Fenris. My first response to you was at least mostly fact, take it how you may. Fenris is just as much of a douche as Anders, and give him the opportunity, he could kill innocent people just as Anders did.
Just as with mages, they fight to oppose the oppression and violence forced against them. Mages, and even those that aren't, help each out, help each other escape and whatnot. Others turn to blood magic and do what they can to destroy every templar, guilty or not.
Anders and Fenris are total opposites of each other, but the thing they share in common is the hatred of the other side, and consequently, each other. You can favor one or the other or hate them both.
@DSXTheGreatest In my view; Fenris and Anders are exactly alike, and they even agree on more than one occasion. Even Varric mentions the simiulatires between them. I personally like them both; though I favor Fenris-- and I will always stuck to the mages side.
But I still keep my point about Fenris being capable of being just as bad. When the war starts and things go to hell, he'll volunteer to help destroy mages if you don't have enough influence over him. That includes innocent mages that aren't deserving of it.
Overall, both sides are right and wrong. Ultimately, the templars want to protect their land from hostile magic. Their means to do this are sometimes helpful, but you'll see a lot of extremes being taken.

But if you side with the mages throughout the game, you'll see that the templars pretty much had it coming with how they treated mages, not to say that it excuses killing innocent people.

Trolololo.. I feel kinda bad that my only real coherent thought towards the end of this was "Oh, lookit that Danarius and his swagger". I haven't made a Hawke who would do that yet- most of them are aggressive and righteous, although I do have one who might let him THINK she'd turn him in.. just long enough to see his expression, and laugh at the poor sod.

so you can kill or betray most of your companions: Merril can be killed, Fenris can be betrayed, Isabela can be betrayed, Anders can be killed (but it's all his fault really), Bethany can be die in 2 ways one is betrayal, the other is not. Dragon age 2 is so dark.

Speaking of DLC, You can also drive Sebastian away if you choose correctly, and an unfriendly/rivaled Aveline may also leave your side. So pretty much Varric and your dog are the only ones you've got garunteed.
That is probably the worst thing that could be done in DA2 and Anders coment was HORRIBLE!!! I personaly like them both and this is just heart breaking even if it isnt real :( I feel that they both have the right ideas just not about everything. There both hate slavary in different ways but there not opening there eyes to see the bigger picture. They judge everything a sertain way because something happened to them in the past, they both have good reasons to but theres more to it then that.

you should also include the post script from danarius, where he writes the champion telling you that he altered fenris's memory upon returning minrathus, so he doesn't remember anything, that he's back to his docile self. i think that make this scene all more gut wrenching. three years wiped out by betrayal and a sister who sought to become a magister. =( i may not like him, but no one deserves that.
I liked Fenris well enough, can't say I agreed with his view of magic but Kirkwall, or rather the horrific retcon DA2 pulled, isn't exactly a sparkling utopia of goodie goodie mages and rainbows that Origins was. I felt for his pain, and understand his nature, he acknowledges his views are more emotion driven then reason driven.
On the one hand, this scene makes me sad, even though it's just a game. My superego is so over-developed I can't even make my characters do dick things like this. On the other, I want to find out who wrote these characters and send them a gushy fan letter of adoration, because you know they did a good job when the characters provoke real emotional responses from the players.

I do not like Fenris. One bad experience in his life turned him bitter whereas with Anders, he had every reason to do what he did. The Grand Cleric did not do anything to appease the situation. Sebastian is an ... so much for not breaking his oath to the chantry in act 3. I don't like him either - Sebastian. And Fenris whines too much. Why they had to put him into the game, I really don't know. He has no impact whatsoever on the story line. I only recruit him for experience reasons.

He's the only one who calmly asks Merrill about her blood magic instead of jumping down her throat. IMO, that is.
He's one of favorites. Up there with Merrill, Carver, Varric, and Fenris.

I usually play a pro-mage Hawke, and even I recognise that half the mages in Kirkwall are demon-worshipping blood magic-using abominations. The mages deserve their freedom, that's undoubtable, but a line has to be drawn at some point otherwise we get the crazy maleficars using blood magic to control people's minds.

@nevrest Well, I do favor Anders, especially since I'm a pro-mage person, but I'm aware that he's no saint. He's in the wrong as well, and just like Fenris and his vendetta against mages, Anders has a TON of trouble seeing the grey area with templars.
But if you side with the mages throughout the game, you'll see that the templars pretty much had it coming with how they treated mages, not to say that it excuses killing innocent people.

@nevrest And believe it or not with my bias, I wasn't really defending Anders. Perhaps a little, but it wasn't the best defense at all. I agree with you when you say that Anders is a moron. So is Fenris, but a good number of characters weren't that well written in this game, were they?
If only you were able to do more to get characters like this to see your side and agree with your methods if you're doing something they oppose.

Trolololo.. I feel kinda bad that my only real coherent thought towards the end of this was "Oh, lookit that Danarius and his swagger". Which very nearly prompted a hysterical gigglefit, because of the way he held his hands out, and.. well, you get the picture. I haven't made a Hawke who would do that yet- most of them are aggressive and righteous, although I do have one who might let him THINK she'd turn him in.. just long enough to see his expression, and laugh at the poor sod.

so you can kill or betray most of your companions: Merril can be killed, Fenris can be betrayed, Isabela can be betrayed, Anders can be killed (but it's all his fault really), Bethany can be die in 2 ways one is betrayal, the other is not. Dragon age 2 is so dark.

Speaking of DLC, You can also drive Sebastian away if you choose correctly, and an unfriendly/rivaled Aveline may also leave your side. So pretty much Varric and your dog are the only ones you've got garunteed.

That is probably the worst thing that could be done in DA2 and Anders coment was HORRIBLE!!! I personaly like them both and this is just heart breaking even if it isnt real :( I feel that they both have the right ideas just not about everything. There both hate slavary in different ways but there not opening there eyes to see the bigger picture. They judge everything a sertain way because something happened to them in the past, they both have good reasons to but theres more to it then that.

you should also include the post script from danarius, where he writes the champion telling you that he altered fenris's memory upon returning minrathus, so he doesn't remember anything, that he's back to his docile self. i think that make this scene all more gut wrenching. three years wiped out by betrayal and a sister who sought to become a magister. =( i may not like him, but no one deserves that.

I liked Fenris well enough, can't say I agreed with his view of magic but Kirkwall, or rather the horrific retcon DA2 pulled, isn't exactly a sparkling utopia of goodie goodie mages and rainbows that Origins was. I felt for his pain, and understand his nature, he acknowledges his views are more emotion driven then reason driven.

I do not like Fenris. One bad experience in his life turned him bitter whereas with Anders, he had every reason to do what he did. The Grand Cleric did not do anything to appease the situation. Sebastian is an ... so much for not breaking his oath to the chantry in act 3. I don't like him either - Sebastian. And Fenris whines too much. Why they had to put him into the game, I really don't know. He has no impact whatsoever on the story line. I only recruit him for experience reasons.

Weird, I don't like Fenris at all, and this still has got to be the most disturbing scene in the game. I mean, you can kill Merrill, but she's angry. You can kill Bethany, and she is angry, you can kill Anders, and he's a psychopath, but Fenris, he just broke.
Good part is, now that I have seen it, my curiosity will not make me try this out myself.

Grr... this is a BAD scene!!! Seriously wish there was a more bloody way to kill Danarius. But him turning into a splatter of blood is good, but wanted Fenris to rip his heart out - slowly. Hmmm that for Anders would also be good :)

He basically killed his surrogate mother and his one true friend for the sake of an ideal he wasn't even helping! I mean, what the hell did he get for blowing up a huge church instead of the Templar barracks? He hates the Templars, not the priests! That was bullshit. He's the only one who calmly asks Merrill about her blood magic instead of jumping down her throat. IMO, that is.
He's one of favorites. Up there with Merrill, Carver, Varric, and Fenris.

@blazinghen The point was the chantry wasn't doing anything. Killing all the templars would just bring condemnation form the chantry and bring more templars. With the chantry around, people would be more willing to compromise, out of loyalty. Considering that the templars were essentially lobotomizing every mage they could get their hands on
The chantry had slave caste in the mages.And the templars. They are as guilty as anyone else.

That way, he kills the real murderers and no more Templars come to investigate until they can mount a sizable force. Anders wasn't thinking clearly. I think he only supports it in that one instance. Mostly cause he hates Fenris a great deal for being a former slave, yet Fenris still wishes for the enslavement of others. Mages can be reasoned with. Fenris is just to close minded and expects every mage to be good. So when one mage slips to evil like any other person he judges the whole group.

I think I'm just more biased against Anders (despite playing a Pro-Mage Hawke) because he does more things to annoy me. At least Fenris does have a few conversations and bits of banter that don't involve "hate mages! >=(" With Anders, the oppression of magic-users is all he ever seems to talk about.

I usually play a pro-mage Hawke, and even I recognise that half the mages in Kirkwall are demon-worshipping blood magic-using abominations. The mages deserve their freedom, that's undoubtable, but a line has to be drawn at some point otherwise we get the crazy maleficars using blood magic to control people's minds.
