It isn't "wrong", it's IMPROVISED. This is a technique sometimes used by musicians when playing melodic phrases; I don't know if you're aware of this practice?

Excellent, I'd say you nailed that. The sound mix sounded spot on, good to hear the bass cranked up too. On some of the performances I've heard circa 1980 of the Raven the bass isn't anywhere near loud enough but that's certainly not an issue here.
