  • Having not really watched the show...what was the deal...did Tony get whacked, or was David Chase just being a jack off?

  • its actually genius if you think about it i mean it got people talking about sopranos which made people that never scene it wanna watch it from episode one plus david chase still won the emmy

  • lol this video ends the same as the sopranos

  • I watching it online and I thought I lost my internet connection!

  • I saw in a interview w/ DChase and he said (subliminal) that Tony died.

  • Its almost as dissapointing as the End of Neon Genesis Evangelion.

  • i remembered the sopranos was a famous show but i never watched one episode of that crap..lol!!! sub me

  • Think the whole point was to point out, that if Tonys daughter didnt have issues parking her car she would have been in the restaurant sooner sitting directly next to Tony. Then the gunman that came out of the bathroom wouldnt have had a good shot on Tony and would have called it off. If you think about it, and how much time it focused on how long it took the horrible driver to park her car you can piece that together....I would have liked to see it though!

  • great ending. period. if you don't like, it means you don't get it....

  • man...those onion rings were good

  • I think it was a spineless way to end the series- if Tony is killed- lets fucking see it- the show is never seen exclusively through his eyes- so this sudden blackout theory doesn't fly.

This seemd like a cheap cop out and an open end if there was to ever be a movie- mini series or whatever because Chase needs a kick start to his career in the future- that's what it really was.

An appalling and shabby end to what was the greatest ever TV show.

  • @notmemate His whole point of doing it like this, was so people like you COULDN'T see it. He said showing it outright dimishes it, which it does.

Anyway, do you really need everything spoon fed to you?

  • I think the feds got him. Itd be a good way to continue the series. Seeing how Tony runs the family behind bars would be epic. Would Carm give up the pussy? Would AJ step up? They would have a lot to work with

  • Given that here we all are, 4 or so years later, STILL discussing & speculating about it, sort of proves that it was a genius ending - frustrating, certainly, but extremely clever.

For what it's worth, my take is that the black screen DOES signify death - something/someone died in that second. But whether it was Tony, the series or the omniscient viewer - who knows?

  • Great ending, couldn't have been any other way.

  • that shit is whack

  • LOL fan get whacked for watching it....

  • This is the best ending ever in the history of TV!

  • Many good points brought up here and I learned much insight that I'll think of whenever I rewatch the series. But you guys know one thing.....David Chase can do anything with this ending. The artistic /no compromise approach would to never re-visit. It's done...over....finished..... But a movie would be nice........

  • wasnt a cliffhanger dude in brown coat obviously kills him..they leave a clear floating shot of dude entering bathroom exposing tony's right side of the booth where meadow 'would be' sitting..the scene is set for her to witness just as Junie had..among other reasons..son n wife r looking down at menus so couldnt warn him...he gets shot in the right side of his head from behind...hence the 10seconds of blackness..eternal nothingness..thats PART of the scene...he's gone.

  • @Apoll0Spade exactly and the fact that it took meadow forever to park, she could have been sitting next to him and ultimatley protected him....but she had to be late, he had to die

  • @Apoll0Spade Nailed it dude. Also few episodes before they were literally talking about gettign shot and everything going black cuz a bullet travels faster then speed of sound so u dont hear it either.

  • @Apoll0Spade thank you!! it makes u think has anyone watched this fucking show? i mean if you understand this show and david chase the guy who made i,t its so fucking obvious tony gets clipped. the sopranos is known for its artistic merit in television, god forbid they make a creative ending!

  • @Apoll0Spade Your absolutely right, this is exactly what happens in this scene, thank you for pointing it out to those who didn't understand what had happened, this is an incredible TV series with a epic and unique ending, thank you David Chase for creating this wonderful TV series

  • BEST FUCKING ENDING MOST AWESOME SERIES FUCK YEA!!!

  • Also with all the symbolism in the ending what was with the choice of song? Journey? What was the message there.

  • I didn't like the ending because Tony seems to let his guard down so much. Sitting in the middle of the room, not even noticing the guy come in. No bodyguard. Isn't it a bit out of character after all hes been through? Especially after hes just killed the acting Boss of New York, and everything is so chaotic?

  • Am I dead? man...those onion rings were good LOL

  • Whats so amazing hes dead and it all goes black! Badda boom badda bing!

  • my house prolly got it worse than any on this end when it went black my family screamed at me thinkin i hit the power botton on the remote so me and my brother started 2 fight and we knocked over my whole glass china closet broke everything lol

  • yea at the time it seemed like WTF!? but now in retrospect it was quite genius,unique...cuz it was such a great show.

  • I sure hope Dexter does the same thing. 6' under was really cool how they showed the death of every character as a final montage.

  • @jugglingembalmer I cried during the six feet under final scene. To me THAT was a perfect way to end a series. The sopranos was okay, but I would have liked to have seen something.

  • By this logic, the last chapter of The Deathly Hollows should have been blank pages. This was pure laziness. The second half of the last season was meaningless.

  • i tough my satellite dish was moved by the same damn racoon that's been doiing it since forever

  • Comment removed

  • @BRANDSTATION

You mean the ending written and directed by an American?

  • At first i was yelling to, because i didn't know what happened, but after thinking about it and knowing what happened to Tony i think it's the best ending i've ever seen in a TV series.

There was no better way the stage the death of Tony.

  • It was a great ending... It leaves it open to speculation. Those last few moments of sopranos i was literally shaking in the dread of seeing a character who i have invested to must emotion and time into be killed. Im happy that i didnt have to SEE tony get whacked. I was upset that it only went to black with no closing dialogue, but it lets you create your own ending. I believe he tony was killed, but i dont have to commit to that idea.

  • @xXsoutheastbeastXx When Meadow opened the door and Tony looked up to see her and the picture went to black was the instant that Tony got shot in the back of his head on the right side by the guy that the camera followed going to the bathroom. When the picture goes to black you don't hear the Journey song either or anything else period. That shot (the last 10 seconds before the credits) is from Tonys' point of view. You don't hear or see anything when your dead. "It's all a big nothing."

  • @nkmcfrln Two big clues in S6 were the scene where someone gets killed in front on Silvio, and Silvio gets blood on his face before he even realises there was a gunshot, then the scene where Tony and Bobby are discussing on a boat and Bobby says "You probably don't even hear it when it happens, right?".

  • @nkmcfrln We have a winner! Thank you! I can't believe so many people can figure out what happened. He was shot in the right side of the head by the man in the members only jacket. Meadow who had saved Tony numerous times in the series (including getting him to "come back" from purgatory / death) was late and WOULD have been sitting next to him, instead she saw her dad get killed.

So many hints throughout the series answers all the questions - brilliant show.

  • @Jizzmonster You learn so many different things by watching/reading about The Sopranos. If I didn't watch the series I wouldn't even understand what a "Sociopath" is until probably much later in my life. I'm a product of a relationship between four Sociopaths. They're not thugs or gangsters. Three of them would would fit in seamlessly with Dr. Melfis' crowd. The other one went to the school that Jackie Aprile Jr. wanted to go to after flunking out of Rutgers. Melfi's crowd are the "bad guys."

  • i felt like i hit a brick wall with the ending

  • I bet we'll find out what happend when they make a reunion!

  • That's bullshit and you all know it, 3 years of bullshit shows on HBO since, why did they go and ruin the best series to ever hit cable.Thank god for on demand because the crap they put on tv now a days can suck a fat sack of camel toe sweat.

  • Don't stop believing!

  • I actually liked the ending

  • Also.. I think it's possible that if David Chase is like I am, he could go back and come up with a "Tony lives" explanation of the ending just to slap the people who are so sure that he died in the face for making fun of those who think that Tony didn't die.

  • @Madams1977

Oh, and I also agree with Chase mentioning that he did not want to outright say it, because it would "diminish" the effect. And how he said he didn't want to show Tony with his face down dead in a bowl of onion rings. It's like magic tricks.....we all know it's just a trick, but the effect is gone if shown how it is done.

  • Folks, unless your name is David Chase you can't really "know" what happened. There is valid reasoning for both possible outcomes (Tony get's shot, or Chase is screwing with us). I believe that Tony got shot (everything goes black, and the 3'oclock thing) but I don't arrogantly claim that's what happened and that anyone who believes different is a retarded orangutan.

  • @Madams1977

Normally I would agree with you but the fact that David Chase admitted that Tony was killed in his interview with Richard Belzer doesn't leave any room for debate.

  • @eminboztepe I've heard that but never listened to it myself. Most people couldn't give me the name of who he said it to, I'll check that out.

  • @eminboztepe Ok I read the transcript of the interview. Still, he doesn't outright say that Tony dies, only that it was "part of the ending". Chase was a lot less vague though about it. I still think that even though I believe Tony died, Chase did it like this to mess with people. There's still that 2 percent chance that Tony didn't die.

  • @Madams1977

True, the words, "Tony was killed" didn't come from his mouth. But he didn't need to say that. He said that dying and never seeing it coming and the suspicious man at the counter were part of the ending. So, someone died, period. And to argue that it was someone other than Tony is too stupid to consider. And contrary to rumors, there will be no movie...at least according to Chase. I loved the ending, BTW.

  • @eminboztepe Right, I hope you know I was criticizing the people who think that they know everything as fact and call the people who believe otherwise names. Not the people who have intelligent and well formed arguments such as yourself. Cheers man :-)

  • tony dies.if u have studied the ending in any detail at all and its references to past episodes and generally how the series progressed its kinda obvious

  • I've seen season 1 and the final scene of the series and the only thing I can say for sure is it wasn't a cliff-hanger moment. He dies. Duh!!!

  • watch the series and you know what happens

  • you don't need a gynecologist to know which way the wind blows.

  • pro-tip: not a cliffhanger, Tony dies.

  • Looks like time has proved David Chase made the right call on the ending

  • I haven't watched the show much, but what if his criminal days are over, the second his family gets back together as a whole, Tony Soprano as we know, dies and becomes a family man. Therefor nothing for us to see!

  • what is it with the sopranos ending and everbody hates chris ending please help me

  • @TurkishkillaNummer1 in everybody hates chris he gets his ged results but right before rochelle tells us his results it ends and in the soproanos it stops in the middle of the scene to a black screen

  • its not a cliff hanger

  • What the hell is wrong here??

    It was a terrific ending!!

  • i was so pissed the way they ending the show...

  • most people dont like it because they dont like thinking.. they like a nice solid ending but if they had an ending like showing tony get whacked i dont think it would have been so great. i think the ending is perfect.

  • Why would Tony get an EZ pass?! Hes a fucking criminal!

  • I was very disappointed when i first saw this but i think i was just expecting something outrageous (i mean look at the way Phil went!!). however I've re-watched, had a think and actually, it is pretty clever and moving. i won't forget easily.

  • if someone is disagree with soprano's ending it means he doesn't really like sopranos and don't understand it... bad luck, because is one of the best tv show ever, if not the best

  • I thinbk it was a great ending. If you pay attention to the series it basically explains what happend. When they describe death as everything going black that tells u right there what happened

  • its all part of misdirection by david chase, everyone is looking way too far into the whole cut to black bullshit, means nothing! david chase is such an arrogant prick he knew people would take it that way to leave ending opening to debate, nothing set in stone that was his plan! it would make zero sense to have tony whacked, phil was dead and they made peace with new york so yeah and besides mafia guys do not get whacked at a fuckin dive restaurant with their family, tony lived

  • @Gambino199 Tony wouldnt even eat at place like that with his family.Always the huge gathering.Even an Italian-Nice restaurant. Chase is an Ego-Maniac. I'm still waiting for sumone to tell me thy noticed Tony wearing Shirt he was shot in. I'm sure he didn't have it reapaired..Lol-

  • @clintdelicious yes yes yes.....some people like to disagree,,,,,,

  • A Sopranos movie should be made telling what happened after the last scene! The main charecters could be Tony, Silvio and Paulie!

  • I keep thinking Chris Moltisanti might still be alive maybe feds picked him up after his accident. Remember how tony asked the nurse how he was and the nurse said the paramedics called it in the ambulance. Theres room to be believe maybe he survived and worked a deal with the feds knowing tony tried to kill him.

  • @vicleonm4 despite the fact it was an open casket?

  • silvio is a vegetable

  • He died, people. You got your ending. And you died with him. The last shot is Tony's POV. He gets shot. And all he sees is the blackness of nothing. And that's all we see. The audience is completely involved. That's fucking genius.

  • @onlythequestion thats what i say

  • Look if Tony would be killed and it would be showen well it is end and after sometime ppl would forget it , but he didn't and ppl still talking about this and don't matter what they say it makes this show more popural even after ending

  • People cant comprehend something when you have to think about it.

The ending was very well thought out and a slice of genius, i think only Twin Peaks is in that same league.

Its art. The Mafia thing was this shows outer shell, it had so much inside. People watched it as a god father film...ultimately, that was their mistake.

  • I agree

  • Because we saw the show through his eyes, and when him and Bobby were talking they said it was like a cut to black. If Tony is dead there is no show

  • wtf didint tony get whacked at the fucking end

  • doesn't matter to me cause david chase said he's gonna wait a while to see what he does with the sopranos because he didn't want to just be remembered as the guy who created the sopranos but it looks like he'll be making a prequel series with junior and johnny boy soprano

  • Sopranos ending suck!

  • He didn't get easy pass because the FBI can track you!

    The ending was awesome.

  • LMAO the senators "thats no way to end a show... why wasnt somebody whacked?!"

  • It's funny how many people never got the point

  • Explain the point then.

  • the sopranos forever!:-)7 season pleease!!:-)tank!beppe,italy-milano..ciao picciotti!:-)

  • One of the greatest endings in the history of television!!!

  • Seconded :D

  • I agree. Love it or hate, it's a classic ending that will be talked about for decades. :)

  • @church2008 you're an asshole !

  • @church2008 There was no ending written for this show.
