OK, looks great. But can for example an 8800GT that supports DX10 render DX10.1? or even now DX11? I have a 9800GT that supports to DX10. To play with DX11 I have to change my graphic card to a more recent one? This doesn't make sense if it's true because there are only performance issues from DX10 to DX10.1.
maybe it's because the 9800GT doesnt have DX10.1 features that help it get the performance gains? That's like asking if the GeForce 7950 GX2 can render DX10. While it can play the games, it can only do it in DX9 mode, then expecting it to get better performance in DX10 enabled titles. Using the same technology higher detailed games are only going to be worse performing, not better. If it were the other way around we'd all be using RivaTNT video cards (circa 1998)
DX 10.1 requires less passes to do AA routines, so in these games ur going to get better performance when AA is enabled, when its not ur gunna get the same fps, though interestingly farcry 2 supports dx10.1 and it seems to do the opposite (4890 without AA beats gtx 285 in farcry 2, but with AA the gtx 285 wins)
nVidia has been better than ATi at AA since the GeForce 8. more memory and wider buses make for faster AA. While ATi has custom filters, nVidia doesnt, so it's easier to dictate how it works and optimize for it.
Exactly. DirectX 10 in itself performs less than DX9 as Vista is a hog plus "DirectX10 settings" is today simply higher textures or other discriminated settings to falsely promote Windows Vista as a better gaming system, as where Windows XP has been running the same technology for years.
I hope developers will take DirectX11 to mind - or, to put it right; I hope Microsoft will mind at all reaching out to the DEVELOPERS with real DirectX11 this time around instead of just joking around.
the next card i buy is a ATI because a good peformence and generally the drivers by Windows and basically better driver for Linux than before (from 3 years).
A word of caution - if you plan to use ATi card on a Linux machine, DON'T buy it. You'll avoid a lot of problems since drivers are crap for ATi cards. A little hack is needed to get it working.
This is most likely simply a deal of where "DirectX10" settings are working in a different way - for example they load more punishing textures to work with despite the same limited resolution as of where during "DirectX10.1" they utilize the real texture files. This to simply trick people into believing DirectX10.1 itself generates higher frame-rates while it is, quite obviously, a fake one way or another.
I got my HD 5670 1GB GDDR5 Dx 11 here , runs GTA IV on 1080 p all high with 44 FPS !

how about ditching dx 10 and going with dx 9
now thats a performance boost without a noticeable loss in image quality

AMD is playing as foul as Nvidia on this one.
