just a tip: when/if you figure 4 in half guard, make sure his leg is not tight in your knee joint when you roll, because it will be be hard to slice, when you bend his leg over your knee. And if he stretches his leg, just pull his other knee and kneebar him instead
I'm a white belt in BJJ, and my coach is Purple belt level. I was wondering, if I try to set this up will he see it a mile away? And is it okay if my legs are already in a figure 4 before I roll?
@brandontheprodigy. It all depends, bro. If you go for it over and over again or you don't roll fluidly, then yes they probably will predict it and escape. And yes, it is okay if you figure four your legs prior to rolling.
It will work, he is just doing it slow here to show people. Normally he will distract the opponent's upper body while he is in half guard, then once he lock the leg he will push away from the guy's body and straight into leg control. Ken Shamrock did a similar Knee Bar on Bas Rutten ( similar ).
This is a wicked technique - but too advanced for me. Still though, I am a sucker for any rolling technique, just because of how much it impresses onlookers.
This looks like a sweet move, unfortunately, the guy on bottom should be the one holding the half guard not the guy on top. A good bjj guy would never lay there with his/her guard open waiting for a pass. But the move does look awesome.
yeah, i end up in this move after i've gone for a twister from side control and i don't get the roll i want. you'll probably never be in a spot where you're on top with your legs crossed like that and the guy on bottom have his guard open.....unless maybe you've pull off and old school sweep and that just the way you end up for a second.

@YamaRider93
I've went for it a few times, but like 99% of the guys at my gym keep a tight half gaurd.

@brandontheprodigy , If they've got you in lockdown, then just work your leg out then go for it. It's not hard to do, especially if your sweaty.

I set the twister up with this.

I tried it once, based off of memory though. I didnt really remember what to do, just the roll, but ended up getting a kneebar.
