It's worth much more when used for recreational purposes, among friends and family. The joys that a Jeep can offer in its full use worth much more than any money and Jeep inside a dusty museum. This is the spirit of Jeep, and we should honor it.
You think this way because the only value that you know is the money. If these mats were not for Jeep and neither were rare, would be valuable? They are useless, expensive, and worth a lot just because of its rarity. You would use this system in your old Jeep? If only for their rarity, my son's drawings are unique in the world. Should I sell them for a fortune? Not enough to be rare, has to be a RARE SUCCESS. Nobody wants to place mats in a Jeep to do military parades. I'm just saying. . .
As someone who is restoring a 1963 CJ5 Willys back to original condition I agree on not molesting the old iron. However, these tracks "Wagner-Trac" may be a piece of lost Jeep history. There is a story on the offroadersdotcom website about these tracks that were made in the 1960's for the Jeep's with the 81 inch wheel base..
A good concept but i have a question haow does this jeep take a turn you can not move the sterling wheel and the diferential action doesent works in this way the tank have independent traction for one side and the other to meke them take a turn
@battleminion cutting brakes. They work kinda like regular brakes except they lock up only on one side or the other so one side drags while the other keeps going.
Looks like a finished product. Well done, professional. I am envious for a variety of reasons. I am wondering if it was worth it, if they would recommend doing this to more Jeeps, or building kits?
I love it, I'd get me a bucket of old black motor oil and a paint brush and paint those tracks. but i'am sure you guys have that takin care of by now.
It looks like there is very little in the way of mods to the jeep to bolt these on. The base jeep is a mix of parts anyway. Civilian tub - military grill - etc. so there really isn't anything historical being destroyed here. This is a fun toy that would be easy to put back. Besides, this is a "retro-mod." If it had been done to a CJ-2a back in the 60s when these tracks were brand new then I doubt we'd hear anyone griping about it. Nice job guys!
That was a real option that the military wanted. I have vintage images of guys using an MB with tracks. But yeah, looks like a pain to drive for sure!
@Dannycsgarage as a owner of a original 1942 willys jeep myself im sure they can detach the tracks and put wheels back on , so its not really a waste but i do know what u mean thou...Originalality is everything when it comes to vehicals of age ...just saying.!!
@Dannycsgarage Actually it's worth more now. Only 6 sets of those tracks were made. And they unbolt just like wheels. Ever changed a tire? Pretty damn easy. No waste of anything involved.
@CaduSmith If you had a brain or could at least read, you would see that it costed too much to make the tracks and THAT's why there are only 6 prototypes. They are just novelties from decades ago, of course they don't serve any purpose. They are collectors items and worth more than what ever you drive.
your track seemed to be siezing up and i noticed you kept adding oil, i dont think you gave the hinging points enough space to move freely...the design seems nice and i have come up with some designs myself but i was just going to use the chasis and running gear and put a small v8 in it and make the body myself
Those jeeps were the biggest hunk of shit the US army ever made lol.

@phonechuckdj You can easily convert it back to wheels. The tracks unbolt as a unit.
