@buddyeagle Yes, BR did a pretty lively version, in that "Frank Sinatra on speed" way of his. The PCD version was better than I was expecting; I could have mistook it for "Sergio Mendez and Brazill'66" if I heard it in a noisy waiting room. Of course, that's coming from someone who liked The Boys' (UK-only) 1978 punk-pop version. The EG and disco versions didn't do much for me.
Starting with this one, I discovered your other thematic videos and loved them. Carefully selected versions, depth of knowledge and taste. Result is wonderful videos. I had not heard Rydell's and London's versions. I am glad to have known them now.
However, I would love to learn your assessment on the Rosemary Clooney & Perez Prado version of this tune.
Pussycat Dolls did a GREAT job with this one, too. Also love Melinda Doolittle (from American Idol), Club Mambo (disco version), many others. It's such a great song. I like it sung on the slower side, very sensual, because the words are really about the singer singing to his/her lover.
YES!!!! My mom "introduced" me to Bobby Rydell back when I was a teen doing a report on the 50's/60's! Fell in LOVE w/ his voice! Mom has ALL his 45's in MINT condition, but she still let me play them! LOL! It kills me that his man w/ one THE GREATEST voices of his era is not played or remembered more! And to top it off... what a doll! ;-) Mom met him back in the early 60's and she said he was so nice "to an old married woman!" Ha! She was 23! Love Mr. Rydell!
"Sway" is the English version of "¿Quién será?", a 1953 mambo song by Mexican composer and bandleader Pablo Beltrán Ruiz. In 1954[citation needed] the English lyrics were written by Norman Gimbel and recorded by Dean Martin (his recording reached number fifteen on the Billboard magazine best-seller chart[1] and number six on the UK chart). Since then the song has been recorded and remixed by many artists (see discography below).
I think we tend to like the version we grew up on. But when you hear it in it's Latin versions you still can't stop tappin those toes. This song is one of the few songs thats all about the rhythm. Great Great song no matter who is doing it.
Although I am a big fan of JLO as an artist . . . but I must say her interpretation of this son is the worst I have heard. She has no color, no emotions, no weight . . . I am surprised to see that from a Latina singer.
@NaomiJuliaRoochnik BEAUTIFUL VOICE, AMAZING, LOVELY, JOB WELL DONE MISS NAOMI JULIA. MAKE A RECORD OF THAT BEAUTIFUL SONG, I REALLY LIKE IT SO AS MY WIFE
"El Consorcio" (they where the original mocedades) redid this in their first recording most recently, dedicated to the people of Cuba but launched in Miami. Also Jennifer Lopez made a great rendition with an afro-cuban beat!
Check out: "Anita Kelsey - Sway (Dark City)" It was cool in that flick.
Thanks for putting this together! I'm partial to the first Rydell version--what a voice! I'm glad the PD did this, but evidently it didn't turn enough profit, so they resorted to stuff like "Don't Cha". Oh well. I can only hope that really good music will win out!
i have a reissue 45 of rydell's of sway and volare-i like both songs even if,or because of,their 1960 las-vegas-lounge-esque arrangements-btw,here on youtube is a scopitone of this version of sway, and his real name is Riddarelli.
Dean Martin did a great version as well!

Bobby Rydell and Dean Martin have two
hit songs in common: SWAY.....VOLARE
Both did a great job with Sway. Bobby
did a better job with VOLARE.
Bobby Rydell one of the most underrated
of the great singers...and he still sounds
great today!!!!

want to get up and dance. She was the greatest singing this
song.

It is a simple reality that when you take a
great song together with a great band and
put Bobby Rydell out there singing, you
have a masterpiece. Sway, Volare, Forget
Him, songs by Bobby Darin, songs of
Sinatra, Dean Martin....not enough people
truly know that this guy isn't just good,
he's way past that. The stuff he has recorded is just the tip of the iceburg.
One of the greats and underrated for sure.
