we have double front glass doors - the key is lost- i have taken the handles off but i am unable to make progress. so the doors are still clamped closed. its like the unlocking mechanism (from the inside) is riding or not engaging. thanks if you can help.

the lock mechanic on our metal door is broken and you cant open it with the key anymore. how to I get the door opened?

It's an aluminum slim-style door, not a steel door.

WOW by the time you did all that I would have had em rekeyed and installed back on the door. By the way don't leave the key in all the way and spin it you will mess up the timing on the lock as it will engage the bolt or latch. And the plate your are refering to is called the face plate.
