  • I remember watching jonathan Davies playing for wales against the All Blacks down here in N.Z and he was a freak just too bad he was in a Welsh team that couldnt compete with the All Blacks, but he stuck out like a sore ass man he was good.Good well balanced ball playing and running footballer, you see Davies got the angle on mullins then gases him not easy to do only the good players have that footie sense.

  • Superb player, superb try. It is such a shame that the Welsh never embraced League and moved away from the English establishment game.

  • facebook . com/pages/Bring-Back-Great-Britain-Rugby-League/235284673190835

  • BRING BACK GREAT BRITAIN!!! We're on facebook!!

  • Sensational player! Priveleged to have seen him play for my club Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

  • One of the best at both codes, but certainly no Jason Robinson

  • @usernamealredytaken JD scored a total of 1155 points in all RL competitions over 8 seasons compared to JR's 485 points in 9 years. Obviously many of those were goal kicks - but they all count - especially when he was often converting his own try having just run the length of the pitch!

  • A freak of a man!

  • @welshnick300365 I think you need to reverse the descriptions : JD was one of the best rugby players ever. Certainly, he was the most successful player to play both codes."

  • Jonathan Davies was perhaps the greatest Rugby player ever. He was one of the best at BOTH codes.

  • i still have a picture on my wall that i cut out of the newspaper of davies leap for the line and mullins despairing tackle- and as i recall, the piece compared GBs 12 man effort with rourkes drift as opposed to yet another english cricket collapse overseas at the time

    great days!

  • they should bring back the ashes of league again

  • Jonathan Davies can rightly claim to be one of the greatest rugby players ever having conquered both codes.

  • What a fantastic try. It still looks good after all these years. What a tragedy that the RFL have denied great Welsh players the opportunity of playing regular top flight international RL representing GB.

  • My favourite try of all time whether league or union. Brill.

  • @zacaraua I agree.

I was lucky enough to be there, what an atmosphere!! To beat the dominate Aussies with twelve men was epic.

  • @zacaraua I agree.

I was lucky enough to be there, what an atmosphere!! To beat the dominate Aussies with twelve men was epic.

  • Could anybody please remind me who the no.4 playing for Great Britain is?

  • @tomd2103 i think thats alan hunte, (st helens) i'm not sure

  • @biz360 Thanks man. Some quality players on show there for GB. Bobby Goulding, Martin Offiah, Jonathan Davies, Gary Connolly, Jason Robinson ....

  • @tomd2103 oh yeah, id say that was the best GB team in my lifetime, havent seen a team as good since i reckon

  • Man of the match. He was only small but he did a crunching try-saving tackle too

  • Poor Jonathan. Born into the wrong era of Welsh rugby union. Forced to play league up north. Ewwwwch!!!

  • @gooflafarge Wasn t forced to play league but was treated like dirt after Romania defeated Wales so went to the Rugby code that looked after the players and paid them for their talents

  • @gooflafarge Yawn

  • Mullins would rather shape up to fight than cover at fullback- overrated dickhead. Along with Clyde.

  • number 4 droped his NUTS hahaha

  • little wonder they called him the Welsh Wizard

  • @llanelli14 Thats true,i remember watchin the brit vs australia 3 test series early 80s and 90s and watching 2 diffrent styles of league,i loved garry schofeid, lil andy wot a awesome combination.got 2 remember the brits dont play 2gether as offen as the aussies do,and still dont 2day.They can b a exciting side 2 watch and very classie, hard side 2 beat when allowed more time 2gether.

  • He sat behind me on the airplane!!!!

  • legend!! love ur work JD. wish u stayed at the bulldogs longer

  • fantastic try - you english really stuck it to us in this test. i thought the 1994 kangaroos were invincible.

allan langer couldn't even make the side!

  • @mahlstadt

It's the Great British team not the English!!! Who score dthe try you just watched? Jonathan Davies, a Welshman.

Please don't insult the rest of us by calling the team English!

  • Sorry.

Should I use the term "United Kingdom" or "Great Britain"?

  • mahlstadt its ok dude but try and educate yourself a bit as a slip like that can get you a quick slap in places like Wales,Scotland or Northern Ireland

  • @mahlstadt Don't worry about it! It depends, if it's Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England, then the U.K. If it's just Wales, Scotland and England then GB. To be honest, I'm not 100% what this team is, probably GB because I don't think they even have a RL team in N.Ireland.

  • @wrexhamjack123 Rugby League is played in Northern Ireland

  • @mahlstadt check the video mate, allan langer did play in this side. playing langer and stuart in the starting side ruined the Kangaroos in the first test. Dropping langer for the second and third test allowed the 'spine' of the side to revert to the raiders combo of Walters at hooker, Clyde , Stuart, Daley at 13, 7, 6 and Mullins at fullback. Easy wins followed

  • that boy could play

  • On the decline? The broncos had the best crowd attendance of any Australian sporting team.

  • @UHtiger

Rugby league in Australia is very healthy. This myth about how league is dying has been around for years and there's no truth in it.

  • australia is the only sport that gives a crap about league and yet the sport is on the decline here anyway lol

  • Prick

  • I was mascot for this test!!

  • really? in a kangaroo suit?

  • yeah australia didnt send our best team over due 2 injuries.....luke o donnel, justin poore , brent kite and steve price were all injured....if u think burgess is good wait till u see dave taylor lmao hes twice his size twice as fast and twice as skillful.....120KG and can play centre...u guys will know allll about him in 12months time LMAO.....lockyer wont be playin again but guess what? we still got cronk, prince, wallace....yeh we send weak team and still smashed u guys...

  • I was there to , was only young , i went a few of the wembley games when great britain played. Was this the game shaun edwards did a high tackle closeline , let me no if not can someone please write to my account an let me no where i can find it. cheers

  • i was there that day, what a day it was,sat in the middle of the aussies, winding them up big time, shame it went the other way in the other two test.

  • he isnt a pom hes a taff u idiot

  • a pom with speed....rare...lol....fuck they suck

  • a certain pom with more speed than any aus ?????????? Martain offiah !

  • lmao theres a lot of present day nrl playas who would beat offiah,, matty bowen and kevin gordon and michael jennings run a 100 in about 10 seconds....plus offiah was a fucken joke of a player, all he has was speed...so....poms suck and always will end of story

  • you must have a short term memory remmber the 7s comp when wigan run all your aus teams ragged and won with offiah scoring the most trys or the worls club challange when wigan beat your best?? pom suck ehh but ill let you off being a young un , who gave you the sport anyway??? poms by chance?

  • Poor little thing, all het up about having the worst Oz side ever at the moment

  • u noobs got hammered again on the weekend,we didnt even turn up in the 2nd half n still won lol

  • Can't make any excuses for that first half, we were dreadful, but we have a new, youthful and developing team, so we couldn't expect much. 2nd half performance looked promising.

Still, you have to admit; worst Aussie side ever!

  • Meh, in least we didn't get knock out by Australia in the last two world cups haha.

  • JD had such class, I think he was possibly the best "10" Wales has ever produced, and that is some pretty serious competition!!

  • has anyone got the footage of sean edwards getting sent off earlier in this game?????? he take's bradly clyde's head right off....teeth n all!!!

  • Jonathan Davies - The only man to truly excel at both codes. What a class player.

  • errr apart from jason robingson who won more cups in both sports than any other player including the world cup.

  • More than Shaun Edwards? I thought he held that accolade with Keiran Cunningham close behind.

  • not in both codes rugby league and union ,shaun edwards from what i can remmber has more in rl but no were near in ru ,both outstanding players that played for wigan though ,wish we still had them now :)

  • @1980Grafik The only player to excel in both codes????? Check your facts there have been numberous players excel in both codes.Try google

  • @1980Grafik hmm Michael O'Connor didn't go too bad either

  • My favouritest try of all time!!

  • I remember watching this live at the time, it's probably the best individual effort I've ever seen.

I'm a massive league man, but Davies had a fantastic brain for rugby, whatever code he played.

    Fantastic.

  • No we don't want the national team split up thanks! Great Britain is OUR team!

  • lol i amit good try ( im australian )

  • btw ti that idiot stateyuk-what the hell??

if u cant write welsh properly stick to english!-nes im dallt dim nes ti sgwennu! ond os ti yn dallt hyn dwin cytuno gyda'r hilioldeb yn erbyn y saeson.-

anyway finally a league team in wales-should have gone to the north though cos rhyl amateurs beat the crusaders!once again north wales rugby ignored! great try but have to say jiffy is the worst commentator and pundit-annoying girl like voice and stupid comments.

  • I'll write what I like thnx, and I do understand! Cusan fy asen, you'll probably understand that, even if the grammer might not be to your exact requirements.... Havent seen the word saxons used in a while though.

  • @aeddanberry91 No longer ignored Crusaders in Wrexham

  • what a gifted player he was. magic. i wish we'd seen more of him in union. i think he was more suited to the 15 man game.

  • nonsense

  • strewth, thats an intelligent remark.

    bit cara 'ch 'na

    Enough said!

  • You comment on intelligence and respond with "strewth" and some pish like "bit cara 'ch'na" ! Fuck sake. Bet you are a laugh down the pub eh.

  • Dwi 'n ddigrif i lawr 'r drining blas d at feddwl am 'i

  • Sorry, just as well type in English because you probably can't read more than a few lines at a time anyhow you racist scum! ;)

And as it happens I am quite a luagh down the pub with my mates, glad you could notice.

    ddiolch

  • The fact is, no matter how much Sky bang on about how far the English game has come, we couldn't hope to field a backline including the quality of Goulding, Edwards, Offiah, Davies or Robinson now. Compare them to the bunch of donkeys we sent to Aus this year.

  • well said Josebish

  • @josebish Not to mention Centres Conelly & Hunte! Today were too interested in trying to steal NZ cast off's who live over here.

  • I was there... 1st ever Rugby League game I saw and remember this try like it was yesterday and Shaun Edwards clothes line tackle too haha

  • Davies was man of the match- and he did a stunning try-saving tackle too; a full-on bone-cruncher, would you believe, that shook the Aussie in his tracks?

  • Lovely try. Fantastic pace and finish.

  • this isnt england its BRITAIN, a WELSH man scored the try. stop calling him fucking english. fuck sake they piss me off.

  • @mamgu21 johnathan davis was a very intelligent player,i remember watchin him play 4 wales he could score goals from every angle and score trys effortlessly. If theres 1 man who new physhics was johnathan davies.

  • the good old days, wish we could play like that now. league was great then

  • bring it on. us Aussies need more of this stuff from england. un-mothball jonathan and send him over. England sure need something to beat the Aussies. The best thing about the english side are their great supporters.

  • TOP TRY !

  • great game that..i was at wembley that day to see this..also have the full game on video.

loved the moment when shaun edwards decapitated bradley clyde tho lol...even tho he was sent off we went on to win...davies burnt rubber there, brent mullins fullback just too slow.great try great game..the greatest game...

  • jonathan davies leeegand

    welshi

  • none but 1 is only one more than wales. i fail to see what this has to do with anything kick n clap is irrelevant, wales will win a world cup soon enough when league takes full control the invasion has already started!

  • just answer my question!

how many world cups have wales won???

  • in what code cos thit sounds to me like you talking union? england or wales aint won a world cup in league great britain have won it three times the aussies the rest so what you on about?

  • yeah im talking union.

will someone welsh answer my question

how many world cups have wales won???

  • great try shame he's welsh

  • hahaha what are you talkin about a player lik ejohnathen davies could ONLY come from wales, running rugby is what the welsh do best

  • world cup wins for England 1

world cup wins for wales 0

    another England victory

  • ai mate but we all know that england won because of that terrible forward brand of rugby that england do so much love. I think id rather watch paint dry. THANK GOD for the new ELV's, youl have no more rolling maul, you wont be winning anything anytime soon matey. In DIRE need of some backs wich you will never have outa that massive 500k player pool to choose from. (wales only has 40k)

  • how many world cups have wales won?????

  • Id rather wales NEVER win a world cup if it means playing like england of the last 15 years.

  • Do you go round all the rugby spots, including league, asking that question? And so what? England has far more Rugby players than Wales, and you should be grateful world cups started just before England crawled out into their best period, rather than in the 70's. In fact it was yet another hammering by Wales in 87 world cup that finally got through to England to improve. It's a sport, which means entertainment too, flair and skill, a beautiful tradition, not just grind grind yawn yawn.

  • Davies scored one of the greatest individual trys I think i ever saw back in 1995 playing for the north queensland cowboys vs Newcastle in australia would love to see that try again it was about an eighty metre try he stepped passed heaps of great players great player!!

  • We arrived at Wembley just late enough to not hear Cliff. but we we were in the corner to see JD score a super try

  • Still a great JD try

  • This is why the Celtic Crusaders deserve their super league franchaise, the Rugby talent in that country is enormous and if we can get just a small percentage of them playing Rugby League that will be awesome.

  • Great bit of commentary too. "Eez gorriz 'ead back..."

  • Fantastic try. When Davies came to rugby league people laughed, and said he would be like other union players, not fit, fast or skilled enough to make it in league. Rumour has it that, when he arrived at Widnes, he took his shirt off, and the female physio laughed at how skinny he was.

He was one of the very few players to actually put the work in - it took him a couple of years, but he bulked up, found some pace and become just as successful in league as he was in union. Great player.

  • yeah I agree but is raw acceleration speed was always there way before he went to league. Agreed, he worked damn hard to convert to union but natural skill was always there.

  • fantastic player, the good old days when we had a half decent side. The skill levels and quality of what we got now is nowhere near the likes of davies, Schofield and Hanley.

  • Really enjoyed watching him carve up for the Bullgogs NRL side in the early 90's. If only GB produced more like this.

  • What a great player. He's up there with Phil Bennett as the greatest Llanelli #10 ever. Such a shame we lost him and all our other top players to league in the 80's and early 90's.

  • what a player remember seeing him beat my side halifax almost on his own. they are the kangaroos not the wallabies thats the other code.

  • You don't happen to have highlights from the rest of the 1994 Kangaroos Tour, or the 1995 World Cup, do you?

  • Just this one game I'm afraid and just a poor-quality VHS-to-DVD cap.

  • That'll do. Give us more llanelli, great stuff.

I remember sitting up late as a kid watching this game. Loved it. Must say though, Ray Warren's commentary of that try on channel 9 was much better!

  • agreed, heard rabs call it on the 100 years DVD, brilliant.

  • @a2b4c6d8 ive got the rest of the tour on tape but i dont know how to upload it onto here
