  • I remember seeing this when it was on TV.

  • This would have been a clip taken from an old 80's series called 'In Session' Filmed in Hamilton Ontario. amazing show

  • Ya I could definetly join in

  • lenny looks suicidal

  • What is that tune Lenny is playing ?

  • that's a lot of talent. fun!

  • That was sooooo cool! I gotta see some more!

  • 1:43

NO! Wait! Phew... Great use of tremolo!

Lol at the end! How Lenny and Chet were amazed by her speed... I too! But that's what happens when you practice the same line again and again. Although when Chet and Lenny practice more with chords, which personally I find is harder, even on 1:22 you see Lenny makes a lil mistake, shows how hard it is.

  • What a video!!! Thank you to whomever uploaded this. It would be wonderful to know when this took place and details of it. What an inspiration to anyone who "tries" to play this instrument.

  • No commment just wonderful piece

  • shhhh...no talking....Lenny's playing.....

  • Bless you Chet for doing your best to help Lenny make it in through the troubles. But when your dad whacks you at an early age, there is something that can't be fixed.

Love the bit when they all try stuff that is way too hard. What a fine display of humility to try stuff that is beyond what you can do - even as stars. We should all learn this lesson.

  • Would be nice to watch if video wasn't so distorted. :)

  • Tito, get me a tissue...

  • Tito, get fnub a box of tissues !.

  • How does he do the crazy bending effect at 1:43? It seems to have blown the cameras mind.

  • 1:05 Chet's thinkin.... "find the goddamned song chump..."

  • all she does is fast, thats not enjoyable to listen to like, honestly....

  • she specifically says that its a warm up.

  • and....

  • and it's not meant for you to listen to, honestly. It's a musician's exercise that they use to "warm up" before playing something for their audience.

  • i am a musicain but em that doesnt make a difference to me like so lenny's warming up too then? meeh! =D

  • There's a great biography about Lenny that I just read for the second time. It's called One Long Tune and it's fantastic especially the parts about how Lenny developed his style. Chet and Lenny were so different but really kindred spirits. Lenny hurt Chet a lot with his self destructive ways but Chet stood by him and loved him unconditionally. Their bond was a very special one. As far as Liona goes, Chet probably just wanted to get into her pants. lol

  • she can play fast, nothing more, nothing less.

  • haha you wally! she can play fast. doesn't sound very interesting though but Lenny and Chet are masters of their craft.

  • This story about one of the men who helped Lenny. Danny Davis & Chet both contributed to Lenny's financial & emotional support & promoted him. A few years ago, Danny turned 80 (in May) this man who helped so many & served as vice pres of RCA here (Chet ran the RCA studio across the st from me) on his 80th birthday, burnt cds for me of all the material he had of Lenny & wrote me a beautiful note as well. Heart & Soul weighs in over technique alone. Music Row is also "Shakedown St"

  • Lenny stayed with me back in the 70's, he did write arrangements for Chet, but much of what Chet did was to keep Lenny off the street. Chet had Tom Holmes build Lenny a beautiful guitar that ended up in the pawnshop & it was no secret that Lenny was a junkie. I was with him, Chet, Danny Davis when Marcel Dadi came to Nashville to pay Lenny 400/lesson and Chet payed for treatment for Lenny. We're not all "bumpkins" here in TN...I am..but not all R...My wife & daughters also loved Lenny

  • Two of the best guitarist ever, amazing video.

  • Chet gets schooled.

  • Hell, they all get schooled off of each other. They wouldn't have gotten together in Chet's basement if they didn't all appreciate each other's talent. Wish I could have been a fly on the wall at that session! :p --Stan--

  • uncleblah, Chet was Lenny's idol and was like a father figure to him. Lenny actually was a country style picker at first and then branched out from there. (he was a master at 15 years old!) Also Chet Atkins could play much more than country, he made jazz recordings with Les Paul. You've got a lot of research to do, as I did. And what a wonderful world of guitar was opened to me when I finally got into Chet, Lenny, Jerry Reed etc. Have fun.

  • Thanks M. I've just ordered a bunch of his CDs on Amazon. I saw his biography One Long Tune there. Is it worth getting? People say good stuff about it online but some people also say there has been a lot of bs written about Lenny Breau too. Know anything about this book?

  • Darn it! I replied and the message didn't show up grr... Anyways... get the book! I have it, read it at least four times now. Great resource and fascinating to read.

  • Thanks for that. I picked up his biography and just started it. I'm totally hooked! Wow, what a story! I can't understand why I'd never heard of the guy before. More into contemporary guys like John Scofield and Pat M maybe but I love this man's playing!

  • I just got into Lenny Breau recently. What's up with him playing with a country guitar player like Chet and this classical player? Did he hang out with these people?

  • Without Chet, Lenny wouldn't have sounded the same. Lenny played guitar in the same style as Chet and incorporated that technique into other styles of music.

  • @uncleblah lenny more or less began playing country style picking...Chet was one of his friends

  • Great video -thanks for posting

  • Awesome vid. So candid. the next best thing to sitting in on a jam session.

  • Chet was a marvel..he produced and was instrumental in SO many people's success..it isn't funny. Great post..too bad about the quality.

  • Just watching this tells you what kind of a great guy Chet was!

  • wow, this guys making even chet atkins red faced, what a loss of one of the worlds best jazz and flamenco guitarists, who on earth would want to kill a guy like this?

  • Too funny! Yeah, wish there were more to see! Where's this clip from?

  • an old vhs i had kickin around

  • is there more of the vhs to see? i'm so glad people are digging lenny!

  • yup, i just uploaded a bunch

    check it out

  • So many brilliant minds in one room at the same time, im surprised the room didn't explode

  • Chet was a real man to help her look like she is a guitar God like him. Chet used riffs like this for nap time. I miss Mr. Guitar!.

  • Liona schooled em on the descending riff?! humbling fo sho Lenny really did captivated Chet and Liona before that business lol. Sounded hilarious near the end all the pinging and panging of the strings.

  • Lionas there ...why? :op

  • because it's HER show...

  • and to confuse her guests!LOL. I love seeing Chet and Lenny have to WORK! Maybe I will keep playing!LOL.

  • Thanks for posting this. I hadn't seen this before. Thanks, you wrecked me! Hahha..

  • Liona giving Chet a lesson on a descending speed lick...what a hoot! Great!

  • He's playing "When The World Was Young"......wow.

  • a great "fly on the wall" moment.

i wish this went on for hours.

  • WOW!

  • This is gold
