Thank you for you prompt response ratfinknc on this matter. I was feeling the same way about the 572. You have helped me a great deal with my decision to go with something a little more practical. Thank you very much.
To answer the question.... was the 572 fun? HELL YEAH.... frickin blast! Not to mention the bragging rights go unchallenged. However... it was short lived due to absurd fuel costs & consumption & the reality of... its useless in this car & set up. If I miss anything about the 572... I'd say... not so much the raw power and certainly not the fuel, but... the sound! It's hard to top old school carbureted big block high compression when you hit the key. That & the smell of Cam2... give ya chills!
Good question & my honest opinion on the subject... the 572 in this car is WAY too much for this car to handle as the car is set up even w/ the moderate suspension/undercarriage/traction upgrades. Bare in mind... my 572 is NOT the pump gas version, not practical & beyond overkill for this Camaro. Believe it or not, it's what I had, tried it and have since installed a 400+ HP 396 which is plenty. I would not suggest 500+ HP for a conv. An LS1 would be fine... I personally prefer more traditional.
Very nice camaro ratfinknc. I have a really nice 67 camaro convertible as well. Recently a very good deal on a 572 crate motor was offered to me and I am still up in the air on going this route or going the LS1 swap route. My question to you sir if you don't mind sharing with me, is you car pleasurable to drive with this motor or does this am out of horse power and choppy cam take some of the cruz fun out of the car. Your opinion would be appreciated.
Those nifty wheels give it a Jensen Interceptor III akin profile. Nice looking car; but, those noisy Chevy engines ... that sound as if they are choking, rate frankly are the pits -- stinkers, too: tons of fumes, inside the car ... with or with the convertible drawn.
3:73 12 bolt posi factory housing with the factory traction bar that only came on the 67 models. The axle bearings were upgraded to accept the Ford style, 4 bolt, no "C" clip outer bearings and the only housing modification. With that kind of power.... a necessity! All Moser internals. The axle housing was not shortened nor the car tubed.
@ratfinknc very nice!! sorry for all the questions but are those super 40's or super 44's on there sounds great! also, what size air cleaner are you running I'm putting a 502 in my 68 with a victor Jr on it and have been told i can run the stock size 3 1/2" air cleaner on a standard deck block height motor.
I've purchased a ZZ572-620hp, that I want to install in my '69 Camaro. Which headers did you use, and what motor mounts and brackets? Do you have power steering? Any pointers you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
sounds like a great project, im currently looking for a big block to put in my 70 chevelle shell, i also need to find a rear end that can handle the type of power from a 572.
Love it!! Great job.. 620r or 720r? The video helped answer some questions for my own 67 camaro.. the 2in cowl clears with what air filter set up? What headers are you running and does it have power steering? Would be great to see the build info with suspension and tire/wheel specs. Keep up the great work!

It has subframe connectors and you're right... it was a necessity.

invest in some DSE subframe connectors, it'll stiffen that 'vert up.
