Hello people I achieved a really good speed going from low to high notes but i try to reach the same speed going backward but i just get the half speed doing my maximum effort, ¿what do u recomend me?
Wonderfull. I love yours videos.Keep posting please. Im still praticin the hammers on and pull offs, they are great for developing velocity. Thank you .
@iamajibber some people get discomfort.....it happens but when it does just stop and give yourself a rest! It takes time for most people to gather strength and dexterity in the fretting hand to the point where they are strong and have alot more stamina. Hammer ons and/or pull offs can cause the hand to cramp if your stretching. Once your very used to doing both actions thats when you can use a softer touch and not kill the strings like begginer people tend to do.
Hey thanks for the free lesson. Legato is really my weakness I'll try your advice on playing it slow at first and see how it goes, once again thanks for the tip.
@PinkyWontWork Lol I saw the start of this video, and when I first read the start to your comments, i was like 'what? everyone gets taken over by an aussie accent?'
justin rocks. i absolutely sucked at guitar a year ago, but since ive practiced from his lessons ive improved so much. i'll be able to do this as well as him in a few month probably, and i never expected that.
@1ThoughtTheives Patience..this takes YEARS not months or weeks. You won't see anyone do this in a few months and "IF" you hear someone say they did..get ready to be sold london bridge for $500.
Dexterity and strength in the hands takes alot of practice and time and rest as well. There'll be days where your hands will be so weak that your pinky will refuse to wake up. This is where you take 2 days off or so and start again slowly and on and on.
some people really lay their fingers on the fret board nice and hard but that just tires your fingers out fast... keep your fingers moving smooth and your notes clear. also always warm up when you're about to practice to remove some tension. just get your fingers moving on a easy pentatonic scale... that's what I used to do...being lose is the key for speed building. Good luck dude!
Very true, The best thing to do is practice and keep following the exercise and build your technique, don't think it will come easy. Everything requires some effort.
Sure...practice incorrectly for 20 years and see how PERFECT you become...then when you can't proceed to be any better of a guitar player than a novice, try to learn the correct way to play and see how PERMANENT that incorrect practice has become. I have taught guitar for many years...I've seen it, many times
mudvaynemigs, WarmothGuitarist makes an excellent point. That is, most people don't MASTER, CORRECT, PERFECT when they practice. What you refer to is "PERFECT-PRACTICE makes PERFECT." What he's saying (and he's correct about the majority) is that PRACTICE (ie: REPETITION w/o focus and concentration) ONLY makes permanent. He's right! It's a simple matter of "MUSCLE-MEMORY." So, I'll modify your statement to read: "ALL PRACTICE makes PERMANENT," but "ONLY PERFECT-PRACTICE makes PERFECT!" Peace!
Well-Put WarmothGuitarist! I tell my students that all the time, and it's SO TRUE! I think Justin does an excellent job of stressing this (like when he reminds us to start VERY SLOWLY.) BTW, (not that it matters to guitar, but) most amateur-golfers/high-handicappers suffer from the same dilemma IE: They practice a poor swing over and over which makes it permanent, NOT PERFECT! (Just an analogy. Don't crucify me for mentioning Golf in a guitar lesson comment thread! Sorry!) Peace!
wow... You captured my point completely with the golf analogy. In fact, I think it was a swing coach, that I had taken lessons from, that originally taught me that concept of
"practice makes permanent". I'm a golf fanatic myself, so don't worry about being crucified for mentioning it
Cool! I'm glad you got it! I love golf too, but you know how some of these people can be so damn personal and critical in the comments/threads! I think it's cool that I get to use golf (and other sports) analogies when I teach guitar lessons! I teach and gig full-time and have 55+ lessons per week. I love it! Peace!
Teaching guitar full time is what I want to do eventually. I'd like to teach golf one day too, however, it's not written in the stars for me. I'll never be a great golfer...but I still love it
Cheers dudes :) Metronome is hard - it's groups of 5 (think un-i-ver-sit-y) just do it slow and get it right, then speed it up! My age?? hmmmm... guess :) time to play fast? depends on the person... J
i find groups of 5 really hard to think fast with, it really starts to confuse me, everything eventually starts coming out as 1-2-3-4.. i dont know what to do about it .
By the end of the 4:05 section I was so tempted to go at it full speed regardless of how sloppy I might be, and along comes 4:26 Ah well. Patience.

Pulloffs are the most muscle-demanding technique for your pressing hand.
Take your time, but practice a lot so you can get it down quickly and don't lose heart.
Just as an advice, warm-up and stretch your hands and wrists, this should allow you to play and practice longer and more comfortably.
Cheers.

@davrod610 It's EVERYONE'S weakness. It's very demanding and for beginners (anyone with less than 5 yrs playing is a beginner) it's a killer on hands.
You will get it but it takes time, dedication and persistence. Practice, practice, practice then practice some more.
