I'm sooooo conflicted! I don't think he has the signature Elvis sound needed for Bye Bye Birdie, but I absolutely ADORE Nolan Funk anyway! It's like....eh, you're not right in this particular role, but marry me anyway? LOVE.
I'm sorry to say this but no wonder this production got bad reviews. Conrad sounds too much like someone that popped out of a boy band. It doesn't have the "Elvis funk" and tone that is supposed to be in this song. There was lack in energy and character here.
The only positive thing I can say is that they outfits and the set look fantastic.
ecraven1986. I am so sorry... it was my first time commenting and I clearly mixed myself up! It was supposed to be directed at crudleyanimated as was yours. My apologies
@ecraven1986 I am amazed at how ignorant you are to the way Broadway works. You can see @ the end of the 4th paragraph in this article titled "Bye Bye Birdie Casting Complete; Walton, Egan, Gearhart, Chase, Goble Join Revival" from playbill.com dated 6/19/2009 BEFORE the show opened that is was ALWAYS going to be a "limited run".
"...will begin Sept. 10 toward an opening night of Oct. 15. This will be a limited engagement through Jan. 10, 2010."
@ecraven1986 Yeah riiiiiiiiiight. That's your story and you're sticking to it? The show closed after 3 months because it was universally panned by critics as one of the worst, dismal revivals to hit Broadway in years. Don't believe me? Just watch the Youtube video again, I mean it's crap.
@CrudelyAnimated Actually, the show was a limited run... I was in it. We may have not had the best critic reviews, but a lot of people left the theatre happy, and that's all that mattered to the performers. That's coming from someone who did the show over 150 times. I never saw one person leave without a smile, that's good enough for me.

I can see why it closed so early. He's a great Conrad, but the rest of the cast is disappointing. What a shame.
