i love how the characters in this show are so patient with each other...people will start fighting and threatening people's lives, and even taking them if people show the slightest bit of attitude...i'm so glad to see patience being exercised here! :)
The same thing happened with me TWICE. Once in university I got a position over my boyfriend, and more recently with just a guy friend when we happened to end up competing for a job. WHY are men unable to be gracious. "Take it like a man." should actually be "Take it like a WOMAN."
how did this turn into a gender issue?? He's just pissed off 'coz he got her the job, he's been there MUCH longer than she has, and she ended up getting the promotion HE probably wanted. I think it woyld've been the same if Jo was a dude. How is this a gender issue?
Ugh, I love The Facts of Life, but I hate that this episode is turning what's totally a non-gender issue into a gender issue. Doug's not a jerk. He's pissed because the assistant he helped get hired got promoted over him! This situation would have played out exactly the same had it been two guys or even two girls! How is it Tootie was the only one who could see the problem for what it was?
@MistareFusion Okay. Having seen the third part, I retract what I said about Doug being a jerk. He is. If he was a good person, he might have lobbied for Jo's job, admitting that his attitude was getting in the way of Jo doing a good job. But the gender issue still seemed somewhat tacked on.
Haha fuck Doug! Who cares about the male ego, what about the female ego? No woman should dumb themselves down to keep a man. No man should dumb themselves down to keep a woman, plain and simple.
Natalie's psych "evaluations" crack me up! It reminds me of my own psych class when our instructor commented on how students "diagnose" their own friends and families! LOL
I can, too, in that he'd been there a lot longer when she got the promotion. As you can see through the remainder of the episode, though, she did know a lot more than he did.
i hope she learned her place in the household.

Woman's place aside, how can two equal friends handle it when one is given a superior position?
maybe in this case one is in charge of cases and handling the store, not merely telling the other what to do?

No, Doug is not a typical man, because a REAL MAN would not behave that way! Not all men are like Doug, just like not all women are angels.

it has nothing to do with being an angel or jerk. ssudio

Doug's a dick.

I go through the 'Doug' treatment almost every day where I work.
I do a job that, up until 20 years ago, was done by men only.
IMO, adding women to that profession gave it an added perspective that was more helpful than harmful.
