You're confusing IN-volunatary bankruptcy- Where creditors call for the liquidation of a company' assets- with Voluntary Bankruptcy, which is called for BY the company. Both Blockbuster, and the GM/Auto industry poblems were dealing with VOLUNTARY bankruptcy.

Basically, the company gets a court to arbitrate which of it's creditors need to be paid, and which can F-off til they're profitable again. It does not mean they have to liquify ALL their assets and payoff everybody.
