  • Great car and engine build! This is not however a stock M5 engine. The M535i was a sportier version of the 535i sold mostly in Europe. The stock M5 engine code is an S38.

  • @jimoreno Where did you read M5 engine? Noone has said so... And the M5 E28 engine is a M88, an earlier version of the S38.

  • i think this is what i need to give my 518i e28 a bit of a boost

  • did I need crankshaft and forged pistons to get 584hp in a m5 e28?

  • @Jean2923 First of all I dont think you should ruin an original M5 E28 to build a turbo machine. They are very rare, buy a 528 or a 535 instead. But the stock pistons and rods will hold up for 500+hp for a while but it will eventually break down.

  • did I need crankshaft and forged pistons to get 584hp in a m5 e28?

  • It´s not my car, I've only done the wiring and electronics in the car for a friend. The reason for the unusual engine internals are that the pistons are made for a VW beetle engine, and they are very cheap to buy. But the wrist pin on those pistons arent on the same place as on the original pistons, but with s38 rods and 528 crank the compression ratio was perfect for a turbo build. So it´s a bit of a compromise but the engine makes good power anyway though it lacks 0.2 liters of displacement.

  • Sounds very nice, and makes great power... good job!

May I ask, as a BMW n00b, why you've mixed all those parts from different engines together? :)
