@Jennalovesrainbows Hi Jenna! A Celtic harp is just one type of harp. There are many harps--Celtic harp, concert harp, Paraguayan harp--just to name a few.
@Jennalovesrainbows A celtic harp harp is smaller than a the classical harp used in symphonic orchestra. Usually, it has metal strings (but this one doesn't) instead of guts strings. It has less strings. No pedals. On classical harps, pedals allow flats and sharps while playing. Celtic harp may have switches on the upper part to do it once before playing. The upper part is less curved, and the front has an arc shape, instead of a straight column (this is the main difference easily noticable).
@Leftclick24 I love the double bass. I always tell folks that if I didn't play harp, I'd play the double bass. There's something very cool about instruments that resonate so much that they make the floor vibrate :-) Thanks for the comment!
I always wanted to play this piece on my DS36s but was put off by the chromatics.. I guess it just takes frenetic lever work! I wonder if anyone has played this on a cross strung harp.
@KNO3CS I try to great each tune that seems difficult on the Celtic harp as a challenge. Using levers is often necessary to play modern pop tunes, but I'll admit that I'd have to be an octopus to change all the levers necessary to play some tunes out there ;-)
Wow that was played beautifully! The Celtic Harp is truely a beautiful instrumen and you seem to know how to play it beautifully....and tellthat guy not to interrupt.....its not nice <.<
In this arrangement, I actually start off playing Stairway to Heaven an octave higher, but then for the remainder of the song, I play it in the octave that it is written.
The red colored string are "C" strings. Harps have colored strings to help you find your way around when you're playing, just like pianos have black and white keys to differentiate between the notes :-)
simply lovely! the harp sound good playing any kind of music:) i don't know much about the harp at all, but are those levers to sharpen and flatten notes?
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Yes, the levers function to sharpen and flatten notes. They are really necessary in modern pop music, where there are a lot accidental notes (notes outside of a key).
How do accidentals fit in with the Grecian concept of "modes"? For example, I think its the Aeolian mode which in contemporary nomenclature is a diatonic minor (blues scale). Hold on. I'll go check...ah, good, at least I remembered that right! And also, are they robust enough to simulate a "wammy bar" - often referred to as a tremelo arm - effect?
Well, this is definitely a tune that is chromatic and not diatonic, which is the reason for making all those lever changes to account for the accidentals. No tremulo affect on the harp--The strings do their own ringing :-)
They were doing a segment on the anniversary of the clip-on tie, so the announcer was wearing an assortment of clip-on ties throughout the broadcast. I didn't know it fell off, though :-D
What is the difference between a Harp, and a Celtic Harp...is there?

This is beautiful and I will treasure it.
Too bad the guy cut her off, as if whatever he, and whatever he had to say (which was a repeat of what he already said!) was more important!!
Gone to check out the cd...
