  • I don't know why this song was randomly in my head yesterday

  • Dose anybody know the Piano chords to this song?

  • i think i'm too repetitive. i think i'm too repetitive. i think i'm too repetitive. i think i'm too repetitive. i think i'm too repetitive. i think i'm too repetitive.

  • @skYEATSben I don't think you really understand the reason for doing that.

The reason ihe repeats it is obviously to fully express his insecurity.

  • @YoungDirtyCwalk That makes sense, this song is good.

  • SAUL WILLIAM IS AMAZING!

Along with Illogic, J-Live, Insight, Aseop Rock, Aceyalone, Busdriver, One Be Lo, MF DOOM, Edan, Kool Keith & P.O.S.; they are all just too dope. Hip-Hop will never die.

  • @IEtherianSoul9 Don't forget Atmosphere, Brother Ali, and Beast 1333! I'm sure I could think of another list as long as yours if I really thought about it. Long live real hip-hop!

  • lol i couldnt help but listen to the whole thing

  • he always looks sweaty

  • My favourite part... "Now here's a little message for you All you balla playas got some insecurities too That you could cover up, bling it up Cash in and ching ching it up Hope no one will bring it up Lock it down and string it up Or you can share your essence with us 'Cause everything about you couldn't be rugged and ruff And even though you tote a glock and you're hot on the streets If you dare to share your heart, we'll nod our heads to its beat..."
  • omg ... wow :X:X crazyy ..... like him ....

  • this guy is racist.

  • when he was in chicago, he said he lied in the song because he says he "used" to hump his pillow at night.

  • I saw this guy at Reading Festival a few days ago and his set and poetry was incredible! He performed this song totally acapella and it worked so well!

  • @pumpkill Which song was it that he made us do the guitar for?

  • @SemiKnockedOut Ahhh man I forget! Getting the audience to acapella the guitar for him was a great move though, he even said himself he'd never done it before :P

  • @pumpkill it was List of Demands!

  • @harryallard Thank you!!!

  • ILOVESAUL

  • Che classe, ragazzi! Non ne fanno più di negri come lui...Scommetto che Saul Williams non ha mai comperato nè il durag nè il cappello della New Era...

  • I love this music video!!!

  • Did I read correctly on wikipedia he wrote this in high school?

  • @muchachomalo htththyttuuyiiyiureyt(rtgr(yththbghffggset't'y(§y(y

  • @muchachomalo You read it correctly, if it's true only he knows.

  • I'm Saul's whitest fan

  • @brothermanbill I hope you don't like him "ironically."

  • @brothermanbill my last name is white and im white i think that makes me his whitest fan

  • i don't know what this says about me but saul williams is the only hip hop artist i like.

  • It mainly says you haven't listened to much hip hop. If someone can like Saul, there's plenty of similarly themed hip hop out there for them to enjoy.

  • @FunkmasterFink examples please. I dig immortal technique and abadawn. It just seems the hip hop I'm exposed to is mostly main stream perpetuations of hedonistic, egocentric bullshit. Thanks bunches! X-D

  • @uglyenema Immortal Technique is good...More poetic stuff that I like includes Atmosphere, Aesop Rock, Sage Francis, Cecil Otter (and the rest of Doomtree), Eyedea, Living Legends, Heiruspecs, Asheru, Typical Cats, etc. There's a wide range of styles in that list, too, so check them all out. >_>

  • @FunkmasterFink Can't forget Solillaquists of Sound!

  • To be honest, I would probably never know who Saul is if it weren't for Trent Reznor. Funny part about it - I think Saul's music in the pre-Trent era is far better than music he made in collaboration with Trent (I mean, the music before "Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust"). Such a shame his self-titled LP is so unknown. No worries though - I am spreading this among my friends - I recommend you do the same.

  • If you really analyze this song's lyrics and beat you will notice that Saul Williams is telling everyone about his childhood. Some of the difficult moments when growing up. Black Stacey is him...Saul uses himself as an example in his song to show others to accept themselves for who they are...at least that's how I see it.

  • @abigailroze No shit buddy, that's not analysis, just hearing the lyrics

  • @abigailroze Saul Williams middle name is Stacey. =]

  • What can I say to the haters, well. Saul's stuff is not for the simple minded.

His lyrics has meaning, he's a poet, and he's proud of who he is.

Pay attention to him and you might actually get smarter.

Even if his style might take some getting used to for some people. Listen to his songs a few more times.

We're all different, you can't really help it if you just don't like what he's doing. But a bad artist is the last thing he is.

  • there's a video for this song? WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED OF THIS?!

  • @GEETARS3 You are either unintelligent or an obvious troll.

  • @totlamaddd

    Nope just hate bad music.

  • @GEETARS3 You don't know good music.

  • @GEETARS3 Unintelligent it is.

  • @GEETARS3 I find it funny that you don't like this song, just sayin' considering you're.... you know.. here..... where the video.... is.

  • I heard this guy for the first time now, and I think I'm in love.

  • shit guys, i think im too black.

  • when he's singing in that hat in the end, looks like don cheadle

  • Saul Williams is a lyrical genius... a hip-hop poet of the highest order. I greatly admire his honesty, his original style & his intelligent thoughts, not to mention the incredibly creative ways in which he chooses to share them. He's not afraid to try something new musically, and he is always real. His are words of truth, carefully crafted and forged in the fires of wisdom and self-reflection. As long as there are Saul Williams' in the world of hip-hop, everything will be just fine there.

  • "Now here's a little message for you. All you baller players got some insecurities too- that you could cover up, bling it up, cash it and cha ching it up, hope no one will bring it up, lock it down and string it up. Or you could share your essence with us, cause everything about you couldn't be rugged and rough. And even though you toat a glock and you hot the street, if you dare to share your heart WE'LL NOD AHEAD TO ITS BEAT."

  • real poetry

  • good song, by the way does he still rock nikes from the sweatshops?

  • Wow this guy is amazing... Why is it only now I come across him?

  • He does need to put out some more music

  • Light skin dudes went out in 88...so he good now...

  • This songs fucking tight.

  • when did he turn gay ? lol...great song tho ..

  • A true talent. A voice that has not been heard by many.

  • I know it delves away from the subject this man is gorgeous inside and out.

  • can someone explain why the quality of the album version is different? i mean , i like this version better... but i also would like to know more... please :)))

  • This really moved me.....

  • I saw him do this live and it was off the hook. A really great album, btw. Poetry lives, baby!

  • I just found this after watching a doors video and I actually don't really like hip-hop but this is awsome

  • @gasdu I wouldn't call this hop-hop, more like poetry with background noise

  • @NeoAnimus That's called: hip-hop.

  • Great poet, wish i had that kind of talent.

  • My incredibly white English teacher got me into this guy, I can't buy enough iTunes cards to satisfy my love for his music.

  • My name is Saul :)

  • love the video but this song is so much better a cappella.....

  • left me speechless. WOW

  • man he be hittin that shit good

  • "I dreamt of being white and complimented by you, but the only shiny black thing you liked was my shoes." I love this song. I just wanna give him a big hug and tell him he's beautiful, and his skin is beautiful.

  • Comment removed

  • @insiduous123

Would give him much more than a big hug, something much much blacker

  • @insiduous123 i think he already got that lol

  • this guy went to my school in the 80's

  • "I used to hump my pillow at night"

    GENIUS

  • He is a poet and will always be a lyrical genius in my eyes

  • nice, reminds me of a Fela concert

  • he is awesome, but is he gay?

  • @ionaranoiu No he's not. Lol.

  • @ionaranoiu - He's been married and has a kid so I don't think he's gay - but what does it matter? One of the most best rappers out there.

  • This songs dope

  • They call me hey, the call me_____' they call me her, they call me Jane... Yo' cereal

  • those 41 that pressed dislike aparently doesent understand music or has the ability to read the lyric

  • I'm 17 and I absolutely love Saul Williams. He's the only hip hop artist that I listen to. His music is actually real and talks about legitimate problems and not about money and bitches. It's meaningful.

  • Comment removed

  • actually i think this song is about how everyone has their insecurities and saul is proving he's better then the players and pimps that hide theirs by making an entire song that revolves around his own

  • respect from ireland

  • respect form ireland

  • What kind of jeans is he wearing?

  • truly one of the most talented hip hop artists out there. but what can you expect the guys a poet

  • im happy to see saul is being heard by many ppl , this man is beautiful , this song follows suit lol , this song made me cry when I heard it , im a 21 year old white man . I hope everyone can open up and hear this , peace and love to everyone!!! :)

  • Love. Saul, you're amazing man.

  • the jimi hendrix of hip hop

  • @blobilvero

    Well said

  • @blobilvero

    profound statement.....kudos

  • @blobilvero youre a fucking idiot.

  • @edbean420 you are 13 years old and u should be listening nelly :), why u are on this page?

  • @blobilvero you just said someone, who sucks at writing lyrics or making any musical notes even half entertaining, is comparable to one of the greatest guitarist/song writers ever. You are a fucking idiot. And I think nelly is something you would love, since you obviously have a few chromosomes missing in the music appreciation department.

  • @edbean420 when you will grow up, you will learn that yours is just an opinion and if i have different one i am not an idiot, i am just different. good bye and learn love music not spit hatred on people.

  • @blobilvero LET THE YOUNG LISTEN

    AND EVOLVE THIS MUSIC

  • @mofopker sure man, anyone can listen everything at eny age, but noone have the rights to offend anyone because of ayoutube comment -.-

  • @blobilvero I'd say he's more of the David Bowie of Hip Hop

  • @erzzr Niggy Tardust of course.

  • @blobilvero Why, cause he's black, talented, and has explored psychedelics?

  • @Rand33Appl3 explored psychedelics??? i think i have an idea, if we give say lil wayne or 50 cent acid or magic mushrooms. maybe they will not rap about superficial stuff (how much money they can boast about or their "ho's") and maybe they will have some talent themselves.

  • @blobilvero How is Saul to hip-hop anything like Jimi to rock?

  • @ElTiant cuz hes funky original and kicks ass. not that hard to draw the connection.

  • @Bo0meRs1 Well, its kind of hard to draw that connection. Since Jimi was around for like 4 years and influenced everyone from The Who to Miles Davis with his individual sound that newly combined like 5 different genres. Saul has been around for almost ten years and is a political rapper, who is lesser known outside of the hip-hop community and its listeners. How can you even compare them?

  • @blobilvero What is that even supposed to mean?

  • @blobilvero i like you

  • a good reason to have kids was to have them turn me on to Sage Francis and Saul Williams

  • Yes, this is Knowledge!!!

  • i dont get the song what does it mean?

  • @lowfan1000 his middle name is stacey. the rest is clear.

  • have had this on repeat for hours

  • this guy is amazing!!! truely poetic. i got to this video via an interview with Akala (British hip-hop artist). Akala is a great poet and he said Saul Williams is a GENIUS....NOW I KNOW WHY!

  • Back to what it needs to be, to be listened to by black and white and mostly just listened to.

  • The Lyrical Truth!

  • @lynxziz learn how to spell its color jesus and music is music he writes it because he loves it and its basically his job i mean you wouldn't say that some some guy thats an engineer does his job for a reason im sure saul means what he is saying but come on just listen to it and love it for what it is quit giving it a meaning bc not everybody feels that when they hear this they all interrupt it in their own way but thats all i have to say

  • @69rumblefish69 Sorry, could you repeat that again but in English? I don't speak dribble.

  • @69rumblefish69 Us Brits spell it colour, with a 'U', so he did spell it correctly.

  • @69rumblefish69 Any decent artist or musician makes what they make to because of the message. And it's spelt COLOUR. You spell it in american's version of English.

  • Wtf?

    loL

  • definitely a real poet!

  • real gangsta--free ure azz ure mind will follow.

  • @burch500 aint dat from a esham song

  • Video Invoking the spirit of Fela Kuti!

  • Fuck, why cant this be the mainstream? Then again, maybe thats the appeal... Fuck it, this is amazing.

  • i love the the juxtaposition of the catchy, dancey sound with the heaviness of the lyrical content and then how he gets hopeful at the end about building up an army of men who want to overcome their issues of self-image. saul williams is so dope.

  • I'm not black, or white... or american for that matter but I've been with black kids arguing about who's blacker than the others but never about who's whiter. I guess it might just be an african-american thing. Great song.

  • the song is mostly just about being comfortable in your skin.

  • @lynxzrz this song is not about racial relations between white and black people, it's about a form or racism within the black community, people with darker skin tend to be looked down upon. Saul williams grew up with this problem, it's about his struggle with this form of racism. His middle name is stacey.

  • @halosmyth You're only just skimming over what I am really saying. Like I said before, my comment was more a troll, but under the same context.

  • @halosmyth Reminds me of Del the FUnky Homosapien's "Dark Skin Girls" Have you ever heard of CHino XL's "Who am I?" its all about darking kids picking on him for being mixed

  • Comment removed

  • @halosmyth

wow...seriously? that's horrible...if you ask me, i can't tell the difference between one skin tone and another. We're all human beings one way or the other. Why do we always make barriers for each other? A human being is just that. They are their own unique human being.

  • @halosmyth no its him comeing out of the closet hes gay

  • @halosmyth

Yeah, about that... the worst racists gotta be brown people that hate black and white people^^

  • @libbern all racism is equally bad. there's no "worst" racism.

  • @halosmyth Indeed, through decades of black families moving away from black culture and into white culture they started to turn on their "more" African kin, not like it hasn't happened in white culture or anything. tis a shame though since unity was one of the biggest things in African culture in North America and yet they were still fairly at sides with themselves. either way amazing song love it.!

  • Comment removed

  • @halosmyth I saw it more as a form of racism within black people themselves. Some black people feel that at times that their lives would of been better if they were white.

  • @TopGunOriginal

More like a result or an affect caused from racism, the thoughts that some black people r forced to thin because of the ignorance of racism. In truth, for many many years, alot of black people would have had a better life if they were white (sad but true)... racism is a disease. Think about all the kids (as he was once) looking at racism from a childs eyes-of course they'll think about all of this. But listen to the other part of this, he's saying something simple-Stay Real.

  • @JW32584 years ago mr please !!!! go to london uk id like you to go to kensington, chelsea and then id like you to go to hackney peckam walthamstow tell me that things are equal now ! hahah

  • dear saul.

you don't read these i know, but drunk at twenry past two in the morning i feel more that i have someone ike you to listen to than anyrhing else in the world. your music matters in these instances so severely and i urge you, against whatever attacks you, against my laziness to ever comment again, to continue working and providing this for me because even music, a trivial reason to live, is better than nothing. Thank you, sincerely, a drunk Alexander James Martin.

  • dis nigga spit da truth tho. im hispanic n shyt...but he did his thing proper on dis.

  • Saul is the SHIT, but his live show was WEAK!

  • @hefalumpkin maybe you need to learn to hear him instead of just listen to him

  • @Obediah17 no. I was there, I have been to probably 60-70 concerts, and his live show was WEAK as FUCK! It was terrible! It was at a Les Claypool show 2 yrs ago before he joined up with Trent Reznor. WEEEEEAAAKKKK. But his music is great and his poetry.

  • @hefalumpkin ahh k ive never been to any of his concerts so i cant really comment on that :( does he combine his poetry and music in concerts or just one or the other then???

  • @Obediah17 He has a poetry brake a couple songs in, he wasn't the headliner and I don't know if ppl knew who he was so ppl weren't really that into it so it was more of a weak atmosphere. But the stage presence of the band was non existent.

  • @Obediah17 He has a poetry break a couple songs in, he wasn't the headliner and I don't know if ppl knew who he was so ppl weren't really that into it so it was more of a weak atmosphere. But the stage presence of the band was non existent.

  • He's such an artist.

  • WHO's the choreographer/dancer in the video!?!??!?!

  • @obiez Please do not objectify him. He has feelings, ken?
