    Tuition inflation 101:

    1. Rise in non-acad spending: marketing, career svcs, wellness ctrs, gyms, etc. USN&WR rankings play a big role, b/c they rate a college based on $/student ratio: this encourages outspending race.

    2. Rise in per cap. student pop. = decline of manuf. b/c of GOP trade deals.

    3. Big decline in public $ to higher ed. = GOP slash taxes & spending mantra.

    4. Rise in cost of benefits. = GOP backed Big Pharma/AMA/Health Ins. lobby & lack of Public Health System.

  • These are the future leaders of America? We're doomed.

Come to think of it.... our current leaders were rioting for peace (WTF?) in the 1960s.

    We ARE doomed.

  • What the hell is wrong with you Libs? We need to raise more money to make more MOABS And to continue the Northern Afghanistan/Pakistan/Iran/Somalia/Iraq Conflicts! More Money, we Need to continue these Conflicts!

  • Why the increase?? I have not idea what is charged per credit in ca. But Class rooms with a100 students charged 200 a credit and 5 credit per subject times room used 8 times a day. That is 100X200X5X8 = $800,000 per semester. How many class rooms per building? Now about running classes 16 hrs a day if you need more money. Education should be offered at cost and not a money maker for the state.

Do the math supply, the numbers

  • This is why smart people go to community college for the first two years.

  • gosh it looks like a movie it's so unreal

  • A movie? You CA types are hollywood dazed.

  • Guantanamo Bay, anyone? No need for interrogation, just torture. :/

  • The "Terrorists" haven't even gotten trials yet to establish whether they are guilty or not, yet people like you believe (Because your loving Government said so) that they are guilty and it's un-debatable. For that... I am sorry I watched this.

  • they are guilty...... one of the terrorists admitted he was the master mind of September 11th

  • @5msims Yeah after torture...

  • @5msims you stupid idiot of course he did. theres thousands of people who would love to take credit for 9/11 and have.

Its a sham. Those figures they toss up on the news for us our for psycological satisfaction.

They used 9/11 to get us in a state of panic so they can suck the economy dry and take away our liberties.

Why are you even arguing over rep or lib?

its just part of the illusion of democracy and part of the illusion you really have choice in this country. to be continued....

  • @panterajoey p2, The only choices are paper or plastic. The real owners and evil minds that plot destruction and war and profit from it are hidden behind a curtain of lies and men that serve as their puppets.

So all our arguing seems quite pointless when we discuss different philosophies and politics or rep vs lib. Its just a duality that keeps us seperated and fighting like they have used race, sexual orientation, social status, sports. anything to keep us distracted.

  • I think they should all quit since they aren't going to be able find any jobs any way.

  • Wow Ryan, do you have permission to use that footage? And LMAO. You pirated that footage off someone that pirated it off someone who asks not to use it without his written consent.

  • This is what happens when you all Vote for Change.

  • Well you know the teachers unions, the government don't have anything to do with it.

  • Obama says: Change can Happen!

They should just round up all the protesters and throw them into the overcrowded prisons where they can kill each other.

  • Oh my god! The poor deprived children of California! What a shame that they might have to go to a cheaper school!

  • U of Arizona just had huge tuition increases as well, $659 for instate undergrads and $2,575 for out of state students. I am getting less work because my employer is making less money and now I have to pay more in student loans. As a junior I already have 60k+ in debt and I am struggling to pay my current tuition, and if it goes up again I might not be able to continue my last year of school.

  • It is getting harder and harder to get student loans that will pay for all my expenses and it is very unlikely that I can find a job that will pay my student loans and support me financially if I have to drop out because of money. I will then have $60k in debt, no job and no degree. I am going to one of the cheapest 4 year universities in the state so I ask you how would you like to have your taxes raised to support my welfare/unemployment benefits?

  • Join the army.

  • Welcome to Hyper-Inflation America, you did it to yourselves!

  • Graham is simply wrong. We've tried enemy combatants in civilian courts in the past. This is well-established law passed down by the U.S. Supreme Court. See Boumediene v. Bush and Hamdan v. Rumsfeld.

  • You need to listen a bit more closely. We have NEVER afforded an enemy combatant, captured on the battlefield a civilian trial. NEVER!

  • but once you get that degree were are you going to work? Their are no more jobs.

  • Of course they're bringing terrorists here for trial. California voted 61% for this administration, what did you think you were getting? New York voted 62% for Obama and this trial will attract terrorists like a magnet. Maybe they'll just turn NYC into one big smoking hole.

  • Even if you make under 60K its hard. I'm barely affording tuition, commuting, food, etc. and I spend so far for this past quarter 5000 dollars. thats it. I can barely afford it. Wit this increase its going to make it harder for me to afford it. ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE AN AB540 STUDENT.

  • tell me about it. I get 6,000 a quarter and then have to pay TAXES on it. This while my husband is out of work because of the crap California economy and our UCLA grad student apt. is 1,300 a month (in other words almost all I get goes back to UC!)

  • The question is far more difficult than this poster is describing--the 9/11 "conspirators" are not being tried for an act of war, they are being tried for an attack on civilians. Some of these individuals are only tangentially associated with this attack, and a trial in military court would severely curtail their ability to profess their innocence, if they wish to do so. 9/11 was terrible, but not an act of war--human rights require civil liberties, regardless of one's country of origin.

  • Encyclopedia Brittanica - Micropedia

The fiscal and monetary methods that are used in meeting the costs of war, include taxation, compulsory loans, voluntary domestic loans, foreign loans, and the creation of money.

If these kids protested and stopped the war the government wouldn't have to raise tuition

The war sucks blood and money

  • Absolutely phenomenal! I am subscribing right now!!

  • I know that the increase is 32% but how much would that be in dollars? I know that last year UCSB had theirs set at $26000/yr. but is the 32% for the overal tuition of the year(making it $34,320) or individually by the split up of fees? Also is the increase only at UCLA or ALL UC's? And why would you fully cover people? If they are under 70,000 then wouldn't it be smarter to require a discount fee? That way $ would still come in and people would still be happy! Any ideas people?

  • The increase is for all UC's. Tuition is currently $7700 and it is going to be raised to $10,302.

It may cost $26000/yr to attend a UCSB but that includes all expenses, not just tuition. Personally, I pay more in rent than I do in UCLA tuition.

Low income students don't get their tuition waved but they do get it paid for through grants, subsidized loans, and work study programs etc.

I'd rather have tuition raised rather than have more classes cut which makes it harder to graduate in 4 yrs

  • but unfortunately they are doing both- cutting classes AND raising tuition.

  • 9/11 was an inside job. this means bush, cheney, and silverstein don't deserve miranda rights nor trial by jury... though i'm sure a lot people would love to give the guilty verdict.

  • The tuition increase is for all UC schools, not just UCLA.The protest was at UCLA because that is where the UC regents meet.

I know for a fact UCLA has cut classes & programs to try to save money. They even eliminated the Writing II requirement.I'm sure there is more wasteful spending that could be cut but I don't have a problem with the increase. If your parents make under 60k, your tuition is fully covered . One's household income has to over 120k in order to not qualify for any financial aid.

  • Join the Army They'll give you $70,000 for college

  • They can't, they've run all the recruiters off campus.

    Hoorah

  • Dont support Terrorism. Boycott world bankers. Stop bankers & world terror. Stop bankers of mass destruction. If you fight for the bankers you fight against America. If you fight for world bankers you support terrorism. If you arent with the U.S. then you are with the bankers. This is our country. The U.S. belongs to us not them. Dont let them pass the hat for another 10,000 years.

  • thats funny, at least double the 32% wont find jobs after graduation anyway.

Whats the point of tax payers subsidizing their tuition when they will be lucky to buss tables after graduation anyway.

    WASTE OF MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • are you mexican?

    do you deserve an opinon?

    no.

  • @melkon1an valid point

  • Yes but who decides what is 'useless' spending? How about we cut the program you want to attend so I can keep my tuition the way it was? It's much more complicated. Also you should stick to one topic. Your college fees are not going up because of rights that may or may not be given to those captured in war. Your points will be more clear and powerfully presented if you stick to one topic. Otherwise it comes across as an attempt to manipulate the viewers based on opinions of other topics.

  • how can they save on Public Pensions... tha'ts what this is all about..

Our Government is OUT of Control

  • Ron Paul all the way! He would put stability back in our Government before the elites Illuminati became in charge. JFK was Americas last true president and got shot for speaking out about these secret societies.

  • i want my 3:18 back

  • You are so right ! The solution is stop spending on useless stuff !

  • So let me get this straight...a bunch Obama loving liberal hippies are protesting their liberal college campus for essentially raising their taxes.

WTF!? I guess there really is a conservative inside all of us.

  • Oh, you just realized the obvious?

  • actually, it's about an increase in tuition...but I agree with you as well as most of the posts here and in other vids of this saying how ironic these same college kids who more than likely voted for B.O. and a majority of politicians into Congress and how this same Lib-Executive+House combo has stabbed these kids in the back

  • Damn!!!

  • I want to keep my job so i'm going to tase you bro. Fucking pigs.

  • Ryan P all the way!

  • And out of curiosity, what do you know about UCLA's wasteful spending? I go to UCLA and I'm not aware of anything excessive. You just seem to imply it as if you know something about the school's expenses. Can you give some examples?

Program services such as the career center, student computer labs, library services don't seem like waste to me.

We do have an Asian studies program, but China is becoming a global power... I'm looking for waste here and having a hard time finding it.

  • @etbitmydogucf I dont mean any harm by saying this. But China is a global power, they always have been. However I believe you mean to say that China is fast approaching Super Power Status as opposed to just being a "world Power' which is one step beolw if im not mistaken.

  • I didn't say anything along the lines.

I was trying to give an example of a major that somebody might thing is waste, like a minor in asian studies. Ryan here says there are program waste, but who is to say which programs can be considered wasteful.

  • My apologies for distracting away from your point. perhaps I was to eager to correct the implication of China not yet being a global power. However my reply at least helps to strengthen the argument of Asian studies not being a wasteful program, considering China's elevated status in this modern world. hehe.

  • Graham is half right here. Where Ryan skews the information by implying that everyone in Guantanamo is somehow a prisoner that we caught on a battle field. I think he did it because of time.

The fact is that some of the inmates were innocent and were locked up for suspicion that they could someday commit a crime. It's like Minority Report. They got arrested for something they never did. This calls for civilian court.

If you find somebody in battle, you give them a competent tribunal.

  • Withdraw your dollars from these blood suckers! Withdraw from school today!

  • Some lessons just have to be learned the old fashioned hard way.

  • All this hope and change just makes me all fuzzy inside. :-)

Most of those people rioting are no doubt obama fans. Two words are coming to mind... Reap & Reward.

  • EXACTLY RIGHT! HAHA SUCKERS!

  • I bet they still wont wake up realize Obama is a Puppet of the New World Order

  • i was going king kong over a slight raise over IU raising there rates...but the rates weren't going to happen at their sister schools, and when did lindsey graham go a pair?

  • that liberal education is mighty expensive
