  • It is overly true to say that I would go lesbian for Lea Salonga...

  • I want to meet Ms, Lea Salonga at CCP!!!! :)

  • even Lea Salongga is a mezzo-soprano and her vocal range is not that high compared to Idina Menzel's, surely she prove that it is not in the high of notes that belting is actually seen to be good but actually to the delivery of the song. surely, she is a superb performer. I like her very much for that matter.

  • Umm anyone ever consider the reason the key is changed is so that the music flows and fits better with the song before it..... If u noticed electricity turns directly into defying gravity. And furthermore there is no set key in which a song must be performed. If Lea was in the show it would be different but shes not this is a concert and she performs it amazingly if i do say so myself.... <3 U LEA!!!!!!

  • Lea is every inch an artist. One of the most beautiful voices in the world today - but I also truly love Idina Menzel. You can't compare their voices. No one can compare with Lea, but Idina is a sweetheart and very talented in her own way.

  • That is true talent.

  • 大好き!!!

    i love you!!!!!!!

  • Come to wicked broadway! they need you.

  • Lea really defies gravity! Hats off!

  • I love your comment on Lea Salonga's "As If We Never Said Goodbye"... I accidentally deleted it, though. I was trying to delete something else from another video... but I accidentally deleted your comment instead... That was totally accidental. You should know that I appreciate your comment very much. VERY MUCH! :) If you say it again, I won't meddle and I'll be very careful.

    Thank you.

    Ludwig

  • @10ilsje96 I don't think Idina would get insulted here if her fans didn't come to Salonga's videos insulting Salonga...

  • i don't think shes too old, i think it would just be different and strange to see anyone play Elphaba, other then Idina. thats all. but this performance, was truly amazing.

  • WOW

  • @tealwicksstephaniej "Too old" to play Elphaba? Duh! Idina Menzel looks WAY MUCH OLDER than Lea Salonga!

  • @jaszon28 Where did you hear that? I one Teal, it would break my heart if she was replaced.

  • i dont know the song.. but Jesus.. it gave goosebumps..

  • SLAP GREEN PAINT ON HER AND CALL IT DONE.

  • LEA SALONGA PLEASE PLEASE COME TO SCOTLAND IT WILL COMPLETE MY LIFE.

  • Why would anyone dislike this?

  • is there anything this woman cant sing? seriously, disney, broadway pop? um i have two words am amzing.

  • i love how she's wearing a baro't saya! :D FILIPINO PRIDE!

  • my gosh! It's AMAZING!

  • amazing when she shook her arms just before she started with defying gravity, IT WAS SO FULL OF EMOTIONS i mean like really???? AMAZING!!!

  • lmao thos back-up singers suck! oh shoot! SALONGA IS THE BEST!!!! super clear voice and she hits those notes right THERE!!! she should play elphaba!!

  • 5 dislikes? whoa?!?! 5 people are tone deaf! lmao.. :))))

  • I really adore Lea Salonga's voice. It's sweet, soft and pleasant to listen to. No offense to Idina Menzel and her supporters, but her voice is so shrieky! This i observed when i listened to her version of the same. Lea, on the other hand, has the ability to make people fall in love with her serene voice! In addition to her bringing proud and glory to the Philippines, she's one singer anyone should emulate! I love her more and more! Her renditions of the above songs are perfect! Good job!

  • Pink goes good with green! ^^

  • how come there are 5 dislikes to this video? LEA is the best singer!

  • I wish I was as good as her, I've aimed to sing like she does my entire life! x

  • Wow, this woman can belt! Amazing, particularly at 4:03 onwards. Notes hit perfectly and smoothly!

  • I don't think Lea will be excellent as Elphaba-I KNOW she will be excellent as Elphaba!!!!!

  • great medley

  • 4 disliked this one? Seriously, what version did you guys like then?

  • This is Lea at her best. In her CD, Your Song, this should have been included instead of a stupid song like Poker Song! Then, I can play this song over and over again. Lovely performance!!!!

  • the best rendetion to this song more clearer and very broadway.

  • i wish this was on CD

  • Such a powerful and beautiful voice!

  • Best vocals from any Broafway actress of this generation!

  • @punknnerd: Yes. In one of her interviews, Idina said that she had to "rest" her voice from all that belting for awhile. When she gets invited to sing now, it's obvious that the key has been transposed several steps lower than this version of Lea's. Lea did use the original key in her Carnegie concert.

  • If the key were an issue, then Idina Menzel would NOT have gotten the role (she never had a good-quality singing voice to begin with) as Idina struggled with all the high notes for that role. In fact, playing that role and singing those strenuous songs destroyed her already bad voice so much that in most of her performances post-Broadway, she had to lower the keys THREE half-steps below the original to prevent further damage to her voice! You will never hear her sing again in the original key.

  • Ha ha ha! How true! Check out Idina Menzel's or Lea Michelle's versions to listen to how MINNIE MOUSE would sing this song! Lol!

  • ITA, mdiamse! The quality of Lea's singing is so superb (and is so superior to Idina Menzel's -- as has also been described, Idina sounds like Minnie Mouse) that who really cares what key Lea uses for this song. Bravo, Lea!

  • Who cares whether the key is a half lower or higher? Each person has his or her own key (there is NO such thing as a "standard" key), plus she's NOT and she WON'T perform it on Broadway, anyway. Her technique and vocal quality are WAAAAAY BETTER than Idina's, whose voice has been described on Youtube as sounding like Alvin's from "Alvin & the Chipmunks"!

  • i am so sick of her dang why do-sent she just just come to Broadway audition every time she has a concert she sings the hell out of defying gravity she just needs to audition and she will be abel to sing no good deed tooooo!!!!!!

  • Best rendition of Electricity ever!

  • galing talaga ng isang lea salonga. she is one of the reasons why I'm proud to be Filipino!

  • 4:02 = chills.

  • I love her version of "Electricty". For me it's the best broadway song ever. :D

  • A SUPERSTAR

  • GODDESS

  • i hope that there will be a wicked production in the philippines... and i want to see how lea defy gravity... (--,)

  • Three people have hearing disability...

  • I watched Billy Elliot last week, I remembered when Billy sung this that Lea did this song :)

  • Lea is the real musical goddess

  • MOST AMAZING PERFORMANCE OF DEFYING GRAVITY EVEREVEREVER!!!!!

  • @musicaltheaterlover indeed it is!

  • Love her, best female vocal ever in my opinion :)

  • Try singing DG while you're pregnant! watch Vlirio's video of Leah defying gravity.

  • got goose bumps..she's one of the best singer.

  • @zero14heart indeed she is!!!!

  • @sorafsfd she can play it but unfortunately even if she is offered i think she will not accept it... she is to focused on being a mother...

  • @sorafsfd Lea is an amazing singer. Most women who have played Elphaba have completely blown out their voices. I think out of all the untrained belters who kill their voices belting the score 8x/week, Lea would be able to pull it off. However, she's a class act and can do better, IMO.

  • Grabe. One of the best singers in the universe :D

  • SUPERB.

  • i went to go see wicked and all i have to say is DAMN she should of been her

  • She's getting more and more gorgeous with age...you're amazing, Lea!

  • i would die when WICKED comes to manila with Lea Salonga as Elphaba...

  • When Lea Salonga sang DEFYING GRAVITY at Carnegie Hall in 2005, she sang it in the original key that's in the WICKED CD. Here, she sings it 1/2 step lower. To be fair, even Idina Menzel doesn't sing the song live in its original key. The latest clips of Menzel have her singing this song a full minor third down from the original key she sang it in. This show really damaged Menzel's voice.

  • galing... she should do elphaba. wow...

  • galing... she should do elphaba.

  • she needs to be ELPHABA one day.

  • You just know she's gonna reach those high notes with support and definition :) Prefer her to Idina in a way. It's as though her voice would just soar to you through a theater. Gah, really good!

  • She would be ab amazing elphaba. She would be mind-blowing,maybe even better than Idina menzel. She should be invited on Glee. Maybe we should all petition for her to be on the show. She would be amazing.

  • in my opinion she performs it better than idina menzel. I'm not saying Idina isn't good, but Lea just does this so effortlessly unlike idina who sounds like she struggles on the last notes if you listen to her live with this song. Lea has a beautiful, soaring voice. Always loved her.

  • wicked!!!

  • @motownazn. Actually the lyrics was not altered to make it a solo. The song is actually a solo piece that Elphaba sings in the first parts of Wicked the musical... she then sings a duet version with Glinda in the latter part of the show... so both songs are included in the musical.

  • I love Lea Salonga, she's so beautiful in everything she does.

  • She gives me chills. She would make for an amazing Elphaba. Her voice is electrifying WICKED :) Whoooo! Fly this woman to the united states and paint her green. please!

  • Lea Salonga is Lea Salonga..........

never fail to amaze me with her performances......

  • LEA, PLEASE GUEST ON GLEE NOW. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!! ^_^

  • @TheMasmaganda every time i watch glee i think the exact same thing!!

  • I'm not sure who wrote it but I love the change of the song to make it a solo. I mean, obviously they needed to make it a solo at some point, but that was a good change in the lyrics to make it a solo.

  • Roughen her voice a HAIR and she'd be so perfect. I love her fierce belt face, haha.

    5'2" green girl FTW.

  • OK... that brought chills up my eyes and tears to my eyes. Lea is one of the reasons why I am proud to be Filipino!!!!

  • OMG she'd make an AMAZING elphaba!

  • this is so inspiring

  • is there a wicked production in manila?

  • @amihan99 No. Lea just did a Broadway medley during her concert, hence this DG post. But there will be a "Cats" production in Manila this July, 2010 where Lea will play Grizabella. :)

  • @BeauteReine i see. havent seen cats. i just saw wicked in san francisco and it was amazing.

  • @BeauteReine Sorry i know i was not part of the convo. BUT NOW WAY !!! ilove LEA SALGONA SHE IS MY IDOL

  • why is it that the best singers for this song are not in wicked?

  • Major chills!!! Oh my word, I love her! Her pose at the end was killer! :)

  • wicked!!!

  • she should be billy elliot! lol. just joking.

  • She so sings Defying Gravity better than Idina Menzel. All Lea needs to do is paint herself in green & wear the black dress, cape & hat & she's good to go.

  • LEA For ELPHABA!!!!

  • shes an ALTO right?

  • @johnhortaleza She's a mezzo soprano which is in between an alto and a soprano.

  • @Sky7228

ohh.. i see,,, its like baritone for the male voice... shes really great... making me proud to be a filipino

  • @Sky7228 No she's not a Mezzo Soprano, although her range is. She is singing broadway not classical songs.

  • @johnhortaleza i know this is late but a mezzo soprano isnt between alto and soprano its someone who sings high notes than a regular soprano but not alot higher

  • @julesevnrod ACTUALLY ... a mezzo soprano IS between an alto and soprano. mezzo means medium (i.e. mezzo forte = medium loud). a mezzo soprano is a woman whose vocal range spans from the alto register to the soprano register. in my opinion, i think they are the most versatile of the female vocal ranges. an example of a mezzo in popular music would be sara bareilles or leona lewis.

  • @darylleonardo really?!?! (not arguing) i honestly diddnt know that. thats not what i was taught, i was taught that mezzo was a higher singer that a soprano then it went to lyrica? then koloratura? i believe.

  • @julesevnrod nope. lyric, spinto, and coloratura are vocal types. but mezzo is a vocal range. im not sure of the definitions of lyric, spinto and coloratura but i've heard that coloraturas are the sopranos who can jump quickly from note to note. as far as vocal ranges go, from what i know for women it goes from contralto (lowest), alto, mezzo, and soprano (highest).

  • @darylleonardo see that is what i was taught only mezzo was on top of soprano but i guess my teacher was wrong idk but thanks for clarification

  • AMAZING!!!!!!

  • she seems to be acting while she's singing. are all good musical actresses like that?

  • @motownazn There are plenty who aren't but she IS singing songs from musicals, and it is party of being in a musical its not just music its acting. But she could probably do it without the acting, but i like it better with it personally (:

  • @motownazn

The good ones, yes. :) A LOT of artists today just stand there or walk from stage left to stage right. Whooo..

  • listening to it gives me a real chill...

  • wow

  • I love how they make her skin look green at the end!

  • her last notes just killed me and i died a beautiful death.. :D

  • AMAZING MUCH?!

  • Is it wrong that this gave me more chills than when I actually saw Wicked in NY?

  • heya, wicked video, does anyone know what key it is in? or how to find it out? cus my mum has an audition for the theatre and we need to know, would be a great help

    Thanks,

    Send me a PM

    FitFunFresh.

  • This song gave me chills... such an amazing performance. <3

  • wow <3<3<3

  • It's kind of ridiculous what a thrill this gave me. One of my favorite singers performing two numbers from two of my favorite musicals! I have been wanting Lea to play Elphaba for about as long as I've been a fan of Wicked and this is probably the best job she's ever done with the song.

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE how clear her notes are even if she is belting them out!! The last part was totally awesome.

  • If ever she does play Elphaba (which I hope she does), those make-up artists would have a hard time trying to make this gorgeous woman look like a wicked witch :)

  • @xiaolinwudaiwarrior Oh I don't think it would be a problem at all because Elphaba is supposed to beautiful, because in the second act of Wicked, they actually do "glam" her up so to speak, and yes Lea is really beautiful!

  • @xiaolinwudaiwarrior

Ah, but Elphaba IS beautiful.. Just green. :)

  • Whoa Lea!, For a second when she changed songs I thought she was actually morphing into Elphaba!!!

  • WHOA!!! AMAZING!!! i was speechless!!!

  • for the second time i felt goosebumps. seriously.

  • GOOSEBUMPS. wow. there's soo much power in that performance. I wish she could play the role of Elphaba too. MABUHAY KA LEA! ang galing mo!

  • She has such control. I really appreciate that she doesn't go nuts with riffs. Her vibrato is perfect! This is by far the best Defying Gravity ever! All that said I do think it should be noted that it is transposed a half step down from the original score. Nevertheless FANTASTIC!

Also the conductors work there at the end was a little iffy...

  • oww... she is really great.......no one can do better than this.....

  • "As someone told that everyone deserve a chance to FLY!" "To those who grab me, take the message back from me!!!" "I'm flying High, Defying Gravity" Amazing Performance and Stage Presence....Wonderful Character of Elphaba from the versatile Lea Salonga...Wow!!!!

  • AMAZING!!! She is definitely WORLD CLASS!!!

  • her face and emotions are there and what I love most is her tenacity. She was amazing,, that I couldn't express the things inside my mind whenever I hear her voice... ahhhh I can't get enough of this...

  • Holy Shit!!!!! That is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

  • love lea sooooo much....she's really the best...she makes me proud to be a Filipino.

  • Fantastic as always!

  • I like how she walked fiercely across the stage at the beginning of Defying Gravity. As well as because of her gorgeous voice, I think that is why I agree with ellz1020- that walk, those mannerisms felt like Elphaba Thropp in every conceivable way.

    LEA SALONGA FOR ELPHIE!

  • Her DG just made me cry...

  • @lalucyification me too!!! i thought i was the only one.

  • Lea is one of the best broadway stars ever !!!!!!

  • i cant wait for lea to be the next elphaba

  • I agree with you,ellz1020. She would make a great Elphaba! If she is then I want to see her as Elphaba.

  • she should be elphaba.:) x

  • this reminds me why lea salonga's my idol! ^_^

  • GET. IT.

  • she has the right energy for dg.I like her version

  • Love this 2 songs and love Lea!
