  • I was born 1996 when this was released, to cut the crap, i'm 15, and this definately was/possibly still is my favourite childhood flim....sod beauty and beast or snow white...

  • its a beautiful movie I never forgot it

  • Brilliant production! WHERE are the times for us humans to be part of the WILD SIGNIFICANTLY NOW? Gone... And we're losing our wild on this planet!

  • qureshi4tahir@gmail.com

  • This video is beautiful, thank you :)

  • From what I recall, this movie was remarkably faithful to book, unlike Living Free which you wonder if they even read the book. (And yes, I know Living Free the movie was based on Forever Free the book.)

  • Teaching them to hunt and kill again is a daunting task but it can be done. Usually I start them out with smaller prey, like teenage girls and gradually have them hunt down larger game. Thus far my program has reintroduced over 7 serial killers back into the wild. I even tag them with a radio collar so i can periodically tranquilize and weigh them, measure them and check their teeth and such. I can report that they are all doing quite well.

  • Much the same as this couple did with lions I am now doing with serial killers, taking them from captivity and reintroducing them to their natural habitat, the inner cities. I start by forming a trusting relationship with them (i never forget they are dangerous animals...) and teaching them to hunt and fend for themselves on the inner city streets. I am proud to say that last month the first of my reintroductions had young! Yes, 2 healthy cubs.

  • Have you seen Ring of Bright Water?..

  • I cried at the end on holidays with jane and auntie dora

  • This over the Lion King, anyday <3

  • thinking bout d christian d lion~

  • THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING THIS! I LOVE THIS MOVIE its the best i love Elsa and everyone in the movie <3

  • Elsa the Lioness is named after Elsa the wife of Maurits Cornelis van Hall

he married her at Ancón (Panama-canallzone) 21 march 1932 Elsa

Dorothea Margarethe Davis (name Tingulstad by

adoption by mr. H. P. Davis changed in Davis), born in

Drobak (Norway) sept . 19th 1906, daughter from Aksel

    Tingulstad and Helena Margarethe Ebeltoft.

  • I like this movie so much , watched it when I was little with my grandparents in L:A

  • I LOVE this movie, and adored it as a child. The music made me cry then (especially the ending), and I sit with mouth agaped at the memories of my childhood that it evokes. I'm a LEO, and I was born in 1966. This movie is my spirit, and I shall never forget it. Thanks for posting. You are truly wonderful....

  • I was 6 years old when thi film was released and remember so vividly my dad taking me to see it and loved it ever since wonderful memories x

  • still an amazing movie. a classic

  • Comment removed

  • aawww pati is cute

  • Harkens back to the days before man totally destroyed the planet, a shame and disgrace that generations to come wil never see a lot of the planets most beautiful animals due to being wiped out or near extinction at the hands of greedy people.

  • Thanks for the film.

  • Unfortunately with the damages done by human beings to the enviornment, how many magnificant animals will be BORN FREE, say, 100 years from now?

  • The first time I saw this was when I was in 2nd grade. I have searched for it and I am happy that I have finally found it again.

  • A beautiful movie! Loved that film when I was a kid. Today, I've got a little female cat ( a blue russian). I named her Elsa!

  • @Kiwinz94 yes, brings back memories of my fav movie of all time, that and WHere the Red Fern Grows, which I just purchased last week, made me want to search for this one

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh lion!!!

  • a life chaznging movie for a 10 yr old boy

  • I'm writing a report on Joy, and I found out that they had a made a movie about Joy and Elsa, that is so cool.

  • I love this movie. One of my all time favorites. It's true.....this music makes me cry no matter what mood I'm in.

  • Five people prefer hip-hop and ho's to beautiful music and lovely animals. Pity that. Thanks for putting this up. Hope the copyright wonks don't yank it.

  • John Barry was one of the last great living film composers. His recent passing is a tragedy for the film community.

  • Love the movie so much!!! Keep watching, you'll never forget this movie ever. Wish to go to Kenya and visit Elsa's grave. So inspiring. The couple, so good people, with good heart, wish to have met them too. The lived a free, free wonderful life!

  • just watched the first 2 minutes and already and I'm crying... such beautiful music- RIP John Barry the great.

  • were can I get this movie on CD I remember the movie and the TV show

  • i hate people when they kill wild life for fun, most of us wouldnt exist with out them

  • Thank you sooooo much for uploading this beautiful movie..... Have always loved it.

  • anyone know what type of animal pati is thanks

  • @krugerfuchs Pati is a rock hyrax, a strange little creature with tiny hooves that is actually distantly, distantly related to the elephant family, no kidding.

  • @jillgivler thanks for your answer

  • George & Joy Adamson lived with wild and dangerous animals for most of their lives. They were both murdered by fellow human beings. There is more evil in one hair on a man's head than in the entire animal population.

  • I Miss John Barry. I was just beginning to learn that all the nice movie themes were from him.I started to listen to them one by one, to analyze them and praise him, he passed away.I was only hoping he will produce more and more music to entice this world. Long live your legacy !!!

  • How tragic that John Barry died. What a wonderful composer he was. His score for this film is one of the best I've ever heard. He deserved the Oscar for this one, The Lion in Winter and the others he won for. He shall be missed.

  • Such a beautiful movie! I saw this movie when I was in 9th grade and I've loved it ever since. The cinematography, the acting, the story, the scenery, all are absolutely first rate. And, of course, the magnificent score by the great composer, John Barry. I went late in 2009 to the area where the story took place. It's just as splendid in real life! My prayers are for John Barry for the deep joy he imparted to use through the scores of "Born Free," "Out of Africa," many Bond films, etc.

  • I just heard that the composer to Born Free dies at age 77... Beautiful music to such a beautiful film....

  • way over-processed

  • the mother lioness was only defending her cubs... As a game warden, he should have already known that. Lions usually don't attack without cause... they are provoked by people.

  • that was real spookey, of that male lion looking at the women, and looking at the villiage.

  • I,m watching this on pbs right now ! ; )

  • i. fucking. love. this. film.

  • Thank you for posting this wonderful movie. I haven't seen it for years but it's something you never forget. Sadly, George Adamson was shot to death by bandits when he went to the aid of a tourist and Joy was murdered a few years before his death.

May all wild creatures live free as they are born free.

This was a remarkable couple and I will never forget them. George contributed greatly to conservation efforts and his great loves, the lions.

  • Wonderful, wonderful movie. May the Adamson's spirit and desire to protect the natural world remain with us forever.

  • I'm so pleased to see so many wonderful comments about one of my most favorite movies and songs in the whole world. Like many of you, I can't watch the movie without shedding a tear. As a child, I remember wanting a lion cub after I saw this movie. I learned the song "Born Free" on the piano as a child also, and I read the book after seeing the movie. Heartfelt Love and Thanks to John Barry, Don Black, Joy Adamson, George Adamson, Matt Monro and of course Elsa.

  • I'm names after the lion in this movie :)

  • Thank you SO much for these wonderful movie!

  • Words hardly describe how touch of the heart~May all Goodies Live Long~...Thanks for the kindly sharing !

  • this is the best calssic movie i have ever seen

  • the opening scene of this movie terrified me as a 5 year old and i've remembered it to this day :) !

  • the film hasn't started yet and I´m already crying because of the wonderful music!

  • I Love animals did you know he killed a mother and father lion :O

  • @SawyerE33

Well, he had to. The two were terrorizing the villiage and had already killed people.

  • @missbeatrix1 who cares you want there yung to die!

  • @SawyerE33

No, I don't and that's not even the point. And they also didn't know they had cubs. And why do you act like I was there and had something to do with it?! I was just clarifying what was going on in the story.

  • Me WELL DONT TALK TO ME!

  • @SawyerE33

it was his job to protect the people in the villages from being eaten alive, as well as it was his job to try and help protect the animals from poachers.

if any of the lions, or other wild animals were becoming a menace to society, then it was his duty to kill them, to protect the people. do you not understand that?

  • Virginia Mckenna is so beautiful. Her and Bill travers are so wonderful in this film. Their relationship with each other and the animals and the true nature of the story make it such a pleasure to watch, always.

  • I remember watching a survival special type programme on tv in the late 1980's where a man was living with lions, I can't remember too much but there was a very fierce lion called makita or nikita, does anyone recall?

  • @smoky2004

Ermm could it be jungle book by any chance? its anamated lol

  • at 2:40 that chick said "hey, did you send that email to 10,000,000 people saying you were the Finance Minister of Nigeria and would give them 18 million dollars US if they sent you their Name, Age, Fax Number and Phone Number?"

  • its funny how they arrange the clips I wish I didn't know better so I can stop thinking about it

  • i like the movie and i have read the book as well joy you will all ways be in my heart were ever you are my dear xxxx

  • well when my sister and i were young watch this and it became banned in our home, because we would cry and cry and my mother could not stand to see us so sad...

  • What a magnificent film and a fabulous score by the great John Barry who also did the unbelievably good "Out of Africa." Months ago, I went to Kenya and saw many of the sites associated with this film and many of the magnificent animals. I love Kenya!

  • i saw this movie when i was a kid,and still makes me feel sad . oh what a movie!!

  • What a beautiful story & movie. It can bring you to tears. I remember seeing it in the movies there wasn't a dry eye in the theatre.

  • SCHADE DAS ER HIER NICHT IN DEUTSCH IST KULT FILM

  • is this movie sad

  • @ktyourock No, this is a great movie that should be required viewing by all. (That and Two Brothers.)

Better yet, go read the book. Books, actually. There are three of them. This movie follows the first book of the same name almost perfectly.

  • Opening theme that could make the toughest person cry like a baby... especially coupled with the huge "nostalgia" factor of this classic film.

  • @filipjanik87 you could be right. I've got a copy of the film to watch with my mum who took me to watch it when I was 6 [in 1966].

  • @filipjanik87 I saw this film as a kid on the cinema and bawled my eyes out most of the way through it. Nostalgia kicked in and it happened again over 40 years later.

  • @filipjanik87 you're so right :)

  • well it is official I have started to organize my burial by paying $20 a month here in Broken Hill and this song will be played at my funeral

  • This is a beautiful film. Truly amazing. Filmed on location entirely of great lands of Africa.

  • Great Movie, Thanks!!!!

  • i LOVE THIS MOVIE .I BEEN WATCHING MANY TIMES.

  • I remember watching this movie while I was in the Army. The theme song was always playing on the radio when one of my army buddies said the movie was playing at the main post movie house. There were 3 of us that saw it that night, just before Christmas 1966. Hadn't been home in 7 months so I remembered it well just before my first leave from the army. A great movie thanks for posting.

  • ahhh! Finally original version! Thanks!

  • The black guy in the start looks like Joe Morgan, MLB player.

  • God this takes me back, right back as a kid with my mum taking me to see this and jungle book at the clifton in the 60,s,ahh happy days.Thanx

  • this movie was very good.

  • I think of this song when I see the buzzards and hawks and eagles soar over head.

  • I heard of born free when the woman Joy Adamson went to Craig Busch's Zion park, a breeding home of big cats, they are all tame and she offered his best lion Zion the part of Boy, so i always wanted to watch it since then. The series is called the lion man, you should watch it, it is good.

  • Thank you so much for your words, selatik1,

I saw this telefilm in Italy in 1974 or 1975.

This music and Elsa still live in my heart.

  • A drink-loving Hyrax? LOL!!!!!

  • that was random. and wtf/

  • The Best Classic Film Nature and Free in African Fantastic

  • @alfred024, awe, those baby lion cubs are so cute.

  • I am Italian, but all the guys like me who are 45, 46, 48 yers old, all we know Bornfree(Nata libera in Italian), and we all still love this telefilm, and we love the music composed by John Barry: we haven't forgotten Elsa, never, never, never, never...

  • @MrJommycross Io sinceramente sono d'accordo, signore! La mia famiglia ha visto questo film nel 1967; esso era l'unico momento in cui tutti abbiamo pianto assieme.

I heartily agree, sir! My family watched this movie in 1967; it was the only time when we all cried together.

  • They made a sequel to this movie called Living Free. Based not on the book of the same name but on the third book of the series, Forever Free. While the movie Born Free was very faithful to the book, Living Free the movie changed quite a lot from Forever Free the book.

  • Did you know that the actors who paly the Adamsons were married in real life?

  • I remember crying to this music when I was just a little tiny kid watching this :(

  • A favorite movie!!

  • what kind of animal is Pati?

    -1986Sheri

  • This is a cool movie!

  • I love the book and the movie! It's wonderful to meet peopel who loves animals so much!

  • so sad what happened to George and Joy, they were good people.

  • what happened?

  • They were both murdered, JOy in 1980 I think, and George in 1989 he saved a tourist fom being killed by poachers.

  • You've got to be kidding me! I grew up with this movie in my heart and now I hear this? Oh, where was I and the world when this befell them???

  • Omg that came like a shock to me! How come I never knew this?

  • Thanks so much for uploading this! I used to watch this all the time growing up! :D

  • thanks a million for posting this !!!

  • So that's where these cheap designs for chairs were copied from, I'd like to have one of the originals that Joy is sitting on at 5:19. Great movie, I look forward to finishing part one and commenting and then watching the rest, but I've been side tracked for now, will be back as they say! Mark

  • John Barry, who scored 12 of the first 14 James Bond movies, was only 32 when he wrote this Incredible music! It's beauty matches perfectly the souls of George and Joy Adamson. They are heroes all - teach a young child what a true hero is.

  • Did you know that George was Mrs. Adamson's third husband and that they were both murdered nine years apart from each other?

  • this movie has been out for a long while, and yet i never watched it until i was 14. thanks for downloading it. i've wanted to see it again for a long time.

  • Man what memories going to the drive in in the old Ford stationwagon with the flip up back seat by the tailgate. I was 5 years old damn where has the time gone?????

  • I read this book; it almost made me tear up. My mother recommended it for me and my teachers ( I'm a soon-to-be sixth grader) say that I am an amazing reader who read at a very high level.

I'm glad I do, because it enabled me to witness this beautiful, heartwarming story earlier than I would have.

Thanks so much for posting this! My mother and I have been looking for it; they didn't have it in blockbuster (obviously).

P.S. I did my book report on this (got an E for excellent!).

  • i hate lions , im from africa

  • Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna then went on to star in Ring Of Bright Water which you can watch on my channel. Great films

  • I just watched

"Ring of Bright Water". Great Movie. Now for "Born Free." This is going to take all my workday up and I don't care. LOL

  • @BlackCountryPuddler Me too! I just watched Ring of Bright Water and now I'm starting Born Free. But the ending of Ring of Bright Water was sad, wasn't it?

  • You obviously dont know much about animals or Africa [for that matter ]you stupid cow

  • That's absurd. Lions (and other wildlife for that matter) don't go looking for people to kill

  • Ask the poor africans who lived in small villages in the Savanna if lions do not.

Anyway it is a lovely film.

  • lions and other wild animals sometimes eat peopls but they are killed shortly after,,
