I was born 1996 when this was released, to cut the crap, i'm 15, and this definately was/possibly still is my favourite childhood flim....sod beauty and beast or snow white...
From what I recall, this movie was remarkably faithful to book, unlike Living Free which you wonder if they even read the book. (And yes, I know Living Free the movie was based on Forever Free the book.)
Teaching them to hunt and kill again is a daunting task but it can be done. Usually I start them out with smaller prey, like teenage girls and gradually have them hunt down larger game. Thus far my program has reintroduced over 7 serial killers back into the wild. I even tag them with a radio collar so i can periodically tranquilize and weigh them, measure them and check their teeth and such. I can report that they are all doing quite well.
Much the same as this couple did with lions I am now doing with serial killers, taking them from captivity and reintroducing them to their natural habitat, the inner cities. I start by forming a trusting relationship with them (i never forget they are dangerous animals...) and teaching them to hunt and fend for themselves on the inner city streets. I am proud to say that last month the first of my reintroductions had young! Yes, 2 healthy cubs.
I LOVE this movie, and adored it as a child. The music made me cry then (especially the ending), and I sit with mouth agaped at the memories of my childhood that it evokes. This movie is my spirit, and I shall never forget it. Thanks for posting. You are truly wonderful

Harkens back to the days before man totally destroyed the planet, a shame and disgrace that generations to come wil never see a lot of the planets most beautiful animals due to being wiped out or near extinction at the hands of greedy people.
This brings back some wonderful memories! I still have the original paperbacks Born Free, Living Free and Forever Free which i bought when i was at school (i am 53 now) and this film and the music score brings a lump to my throat whenever i have the opportunity to watch and listen. Just love it.
@Kiwinz94 yes, brings back memories of my fav movie of all time, that and WHere the Red Fern Grows, which I just purchased last week, made me want to search for this one
Five people prefer hip-hop and ho's to beautiful music and lovely animals. Pity that. Thanks for putting this up. Hope the copyright wonks don't yank it.
Love the movie so much!!! Keep watching, you'll never forget this movie ever. Wish to go to Kenya and visit Elsa's grave. So inspiring. The couple, so good people, with good heart, wish to have met them too. The lived a free, free wonderful life!
@krugerfuchs Pati is a rock hyrax, a strange little creature with tiny hooves that is actually distantly, distantly related to the elephant family, no kidding.
George & Joy Adamson lived with wild and dangerous animals for most of their lives. They were both murdered by fellow human beings. There is more evil in one hair on a man's head than in the entire animal population.
I Miss John Barry. I was just beginning to learn that all the nice movie themes were from him.I started to listen to them one by one, to analyze them and praise him, he passed away.I was only hoping he will produce more and more music to entice this world. Long live your legacy !!!
How tragic that John Barry died. What a wonderful composer he was. His score for this film is one of the best I've ever heard. He deserved the Oscar for this one, The Lion in Winter and the others he won for. He shall be missed.
Such a beautiful movie! I saw this movie when I was in 9th grade and I've loved it ever since. The cinematography, the acting, the story, the scenery, all are absolutely first rate. And, of course, the magnificent score by the great composer, John Barry. I went late in 2009 to the area where the story took place. It's just as splendid in real life! My prayers are for John Barry for the deep joy he imparted to use through the scores of "Born Free," "Out of Africa," many Bond films, etc.
the mother lioness was only defending her cubs... As a game warden, he should have already known that. Lions usually don't attack without cause... they are provoked by people.
Thank you for posting this wonderful movie. I haven't seen it for years but it's something you never forget. Sadly, George Adamson was shot to death by bandits when he went to the aid of a tourist and Joy was murdered a few years before his death.
May all wild creatures live free as they are born free.
This was a remarkable couple and I will never forget them. George contributed greatly to conservation efforts and his great loves, the lions.
I'm so pleased to see so many wonderful comments about one of my most favorite movies and songs in the whole world. Like many of you, I can't watch the movie without shedding a tear. As a child, I remember wanting a lion cub after I saw this movie. I learned the song "Born Free" on the piano as a child also, and I read the book after seeing the movie. Heartfelt Love and Thanks to John Barry, Don Black, Joy Adamson, George Adamson, Matt Monro and of course Elsa.
No, I don't and that's not even the point. And they also didn't know they had cubs. And why do you act like I was there and had something to do with it?! I was just clarifying what was going on in the story.

Virginia Mckenna is so beautiful. Her and Bill travers are so wonderful in this film. Their relationship with each other and the animals and the true nature of the story make it such a pleasure to watch, always.
I remember watching a survival special type programme on tv in the late 1980's where a man was living with lions, I can't remember too much but there was a very fierce lion called makita or nikita, does anyone recall?
at 2:40 that chick said "hey, did you send that email to 10,000,000 people saying you were the Finance Minister of Nigeria and would give them 18 million dollars US if they sent you their Name, Age, Fax Number and Phone Number?"
Thankyou! I bought all 3 books for my son last year, they were my childhood favourites many years ago now. We have just watched the entire movie and the kids thoroughly enjoyed it!

well when my sister and i were young watch this and it became banned in our home, because we would cry and cry and my mother could not stand to see us so sad...
What a magnificent film and a fabulous score by the great John Barry who also did the unbelievably good "Out of Africa." Months ago, I went to Kenya and saw many of the sites associated with this film and many of the magnificent animals. I love Kenya!
@filipjanik87 I saw this film as a kid on the cinema and bawled my eyes out most of the way through it. Nostalgia kicked in and it happened again over 40 years later.
I forget how beautiful Africa is!! I have been living in New Zealand for 8 years now, and have not been back ,oh so home sick!!!! Great movie !!!!!!!!!!!
I remember watching this movie while I was in the Army. The theme song was always playing on the radio when one of my army buddies said the movie was playing at the main post movie house. There were 3 of us that saw it that night, just before Christmas 1966. Hadn't been home in 7 months so I remembered it well just before my first leave from the army. A great movie thanks for posting.
I heard of born free when the woman Joy Adamson went to Craig Busch's Zion park, a breeding home of big cats, they are all tame and she offered his best lion Zion the part of Boy, so i always wanted to watch it since then. The series is called the lion man, you should watch it, it is good.

@MrJommycross Io sinceramente sono d'accordo, signore! La mia famiglia ha visto questo film nel 1967; esso era l'unico momento in cui tutti abbiamo pianto assieme.
I heartily agree, sir! My family watched this movie in 1967; it was the only time when we all cried together.
They made a sequel to this movie called Living Free. Based not on the book of the same name but on the third book of the series, Forever Free. While the movie Born Free was very faithful to the book, Living Free the movie changed quite a lot from Forever Free the book.
So that's where these cheap designs for chairs were copied from, I'd like to have one of the originals that Joy is sitting on at 5:19. Great movie, I look forward to finishing part one and commenting and then watching the rest, but I've been side tracked for now, will be back as they say! Mark
John Barry, who scored 12 of the first 14 James Bond movies, was only 32 when he wrote this Incredible music! It's beauty matches perfectly the souls of George and Joy Adamson. They are heroes all - teach a young child what a true hero is.
this movie has been out for a long while, and yet i never watched it until i was 14. thanks for downloading it. i've wanted to see it again for a long time.
Man what memories going to the drive in in the old Ford stationwagon with the flip up back seat by the tailgate. I was 5 years old damn where has the time gone?????
I read this book; it almost made me tear up. My mother recommended it for me and my teachers ( I'm a soon-to-be sixth grader) say that I am an amazing reader who read at a very high level.
I'm glad I do, because it enabled me to witness this beautiful, heartwarming story earlier than I would have.
Thanks so much for posting this! My mother and I have been looking for it; they didn't have it in blockbuster (obviously).
P.S. I did my book report on this (got an E for excellent!).
@BlackCountryPuddler Me too! I just watched Ring of Bright Water and now I'm starting Born Free. But the ending of Ring of Bright Water was sad, wasn't it?
I was born 1996 when this was released, to cut the crap, i'm 15, and this definately was/possibly still is my favourite childhood flim....sod beauty and beast or snow white...

Did you know that George was Mrs. Adamson's third husband and that they were both murdered nine years apart from each other?

I read this book; it almost made me tear up. My mother recommended it for me and my teachers ( I'm a soon-to-be sixth grader) say that I am an amazing reader who read at a very high level.
I'm glad I do, because it enabled me to witness this beautiful, heartwarming story earlier than I would have.
Thanks so much for posting this! My mother and I have been looking for it; they didn't have it in blockbuster (obviously).
P.S. I did my book report on this (got an E for excellent!).

You obviously dont know much about animals or Africa [for that matter ]you stupid cow
eoshorse 2 years ago
That's absurd. Lions (and other wildlife for that matter) don't go looking for people to kill
LadyVader33 2 years ago
Ask the poor africans who lived in small villages in the Savanna if lions do not.
Anyway it is a lovely film.

It was a beautiful film, IT always made me cry. AND John Barry's music is perfect. Barry wrote one of greatest scores, and plus song.
