But the Kimura was named after Kimura, so this is the Kimura, if you want to be 100% correct then the Kimura is not a double wristlock, by definition the Kimura is the technique used to beat Helio Gracie and that was an elbow lock.

You're smart. The Gracies refer to it as the Americana because as they started teaching the move to Americans, many American wrestlers used the keylock frequently. It was a natural submission for them. So the family started calling it the Americana. The funny thing about this vid is fedor does the actual Kimura much more often than he does this Keylock. Fedor has 4 career wins by Kimura and NONE by Keylock/Americana.

That's because can really only apply an Americana/Keylock from the side mount, and it's a lot easier to escape. I'm not saying it's a useless technique, and I'm no expert, but from my experience, a Kimura is generally the easier and simply better one to go for.

This is true if you mean that the Kimura is easier to FINISH with. An Americana is VERY good at chaining to armbars and back-takes. But at the high level, the Americana becomes easier to defend. The Kimura can also be hit from more angles and positions. I did a long seminar on just the Kimura, and when your eyes are open you can really find it everywhere!

I have Fedor's book as well as this entire DVD and there aren't any chapters. fedor doesn't say "okay I'm gonna show a Kimura" anywhere on the DVD. he just simply shows moves. Do you mean what is shown in the video is a Kimura? It isn't. It's a problem they had when they translated the DVD. This is an Americana/Keylock/UdeGarami/et­c. Not a Kimura/Gyaku (reverse) UdeGarami. The Kimura rotates the shoulder medialy. The Keylock rotates the shoulder laterally. This lock is a lateral rotating shoulder lock, so it's a Keylock. Plus, the Kimura cannot be done from the mount unless you bail to N/S control or Side Control.

actually, johnblaster, esoterikal83 is correct this is called an americana/keylock hold not a kimura, if it was a kimura his left hand would be on the wrist and his right hand attached to his own left hand's wrist and he would crank the arm in the opposite direction (note how the opponents fingers are facing upwards for this submission when the goal for a kimura is usually to defend hip control and the fingers need to be facing downwards)
