The thing I love aboutt his song is that there are about 3 legitimate different ways to play this song and even when I watch Chris play it live at a muse concert I swear he switches between them all just to piss off anyone wishing to know exactly which one is the "right" one. :)
one day i wish to be like you, red hot on that bass man! btw take off your description sorry if somethings wrong, nothings wrong, and anyone who says different has hearing problems!x
@tomwilkinson66 I am truly honored for your comment, thank you! however, does not take much to play like me! you'll find that you become very good if you believe in what you do!
@leniarias all that matters is the tone you want from it. I have a p bass and just from using the knob I can go from raspy and crisp so soft and smooth. I've never tried a j bass but I'd imagine that it would just be a bit more smooth. But the best bet is a p bass cause you can pretty much get any sound you want out of it
@RadioCircusOfficial Not sure why you're telling him what "the best bet" is when you haven't even played one of the two... but actually, the J is considered more versatile by most (including me). And, in general, they are a bit more trebley, not more smooth.
However, it all changes if you change the pickups. Fender now has the Blacktop series... the Blacktop J has two P-bass pickups, and the Blacktop P has two humbuckers. World of difference.
And of course, you can't forget the thinner J neck.
Pretty good. Although the chorus is not the way chris plays it, nor the intro to the chorus. Other than that, great! Check out my version if you like.
@lennyarias Youtube will help you learn the difference. But Jazz basses have a smoother more rounded sound. Precision basses have a tighter punchier sound. P basses are more common for Rock and Metal - but there's no reason you couldn't use a J bass either if you have the right pedals. It's all up to your preference.
@cyke74 You and another guy commenting here are the only people I've ever heard say Jazz basses have a "smoother, more rounded sound." Jazzes are known for a somewhat thinner tone with more presence, and this has been my experience. They're a little "brighter" sounding, but still have a nice growl. The neck on a Jazz is also noticeably less chunky than a Precision, especially on the first few frets.
Personally, I prefer a Jazz body by far, with a P/J pickup combination.
@lennyarias J's have a little bit of a thinner neck and a growly sound with a bit more presence, compared to the punchy sound of a p-bass. You should know, however, that you can get either body style with a combination of the pickups-- usually a p in the neck position and a j in the bridge-- to get a blend of the sounds. That's what I've got, with a j body.
I honestly don't know what some of these people are talking about when they say j's have a "smoother" sound. I completely disagree.
@bobbisawesome2 strings one and two? you mean E and A? or do you mean frets one and two? either way if your strings buzz because theyre touching the fret markers its because your action is too low. depending on the bass there should be a hole where an alan key fits either on the top or bottom of the neck. find a key that fits and turn it left or right (i cant remember off the top of my head right now) until you can see that your strings are higher than before. then re tune the strings and enjoy!
hey i have a karaoke mixer, there's an input mic and the output is a pair of speakers. i always play bass with that.. can i use pedal in those things? i always think pedal is just for bass amp
