  • How does she wander so freely around that house without buying a ticket and a guidebook? I came out with 30 leaflets, a guide book and about £17 debited from my account after the hugely expensive National trust coffee shop!!

  • This used to freak me out when Minty went for the spin on that moondial. I used to have dreams of being stuck on it and spinning round until I threw up.

  • Can anyone remember what year the BBC became shit and stopped make pure class like this?

  • @MrFrontallobotomy

When the internet came out and disrupted perfection.Duh.

  • Moondial and The Secret Garden were my fave books as a kid, and the dramatized versions of them were fab too. Cheers for the upload!

  • Just also wanted to say thank you sooo much for uploading this, am having a great time rewatching, Wayzotoichi you are a star! The quality of this show is outstanding and it's still very scary (and I'm 34 :o) It's tragic that kids tv is so dumbed down these days. Btw if you like this then I also recommend The Witches and the Grinnygog (full series on YouTube) scary and brilliant as heck :o) xxxx

  • they absolutely loved it. id love a dvd copy. its really different to whats on tv at the moment.

  • Where is part four? :(

  • thx for uploading i love the BBC and the movies that come from england

  • Tom was so funny and cute too

  • This program came out when I was in J3 - (age 10) - and it absolutely scared the living bolloks out of me. It was dark - and seriously not for children.

  • lol Tom was cheeky and funny but cute and Sarah was just a little sweetheart

  • Thanks for this video. It was very spooky!

  • I used to fancy Minty when I was 16!

  • God! I remember this! Can't believe it's over 20 years old! Makes me feel ancient! They don't make em like they used to - this was the kind of thing that got kids imaginations going! Thanks for posting - nothing like a bit of nostalgia!

  • Totally agree. This and the original 80's Narnia series are the types of TV shows that kids need nowadays instead of Dick and fucking Dom.

This got my imagination racing all those yoears ago, and this show has stuck with me , and now I've a great interest in historic houses etc and macarbe stories.

  • The programme with the statues coming to life was the BBC adaptation of E Nesbit's The Enchanted Castle, shown in the 70s.

  • you made a girl very happy!! Makes me feel so old!

  • Me and my brother used to go to our nanna's house after school cos our mam didn't finish work till 5pm. We used to watch this but one night our mam picked us up early and we left the telly on when we left and this show was on. Our nanna said the next day that she'd went in the front room and saw the episode that was playing and it put the shits up her, she thought it was really creepy. Class. A brilliant show that should be on dvd

  • I take it this is just part 3 of episode one?

I seem to remember this show running for a while?

cheers for uploading btw Wayzotoichi, been dying to see this again for YEARS!

  • The series ran for 112 miniutes in total, so 12 parts of just under 10 mins each ounds about right

  • yeah part two is missing

  • where's part 2

  • Were those gardens used in other childrens series, sometime late 70s, early 80s? I could have sworn I've seen thise gardens in other series, now I've got this to refresh what passes for my memory.

  • is this the programe where the statues come to life at night in te garden and people put paper masks on

  • I've also been trying to remember the name of that children's programme where the statues come to life at night and people put paper masks on. Perhaps early 80's? Any help?

  • @admcotter 'The enchanted castle' i think. Was very frightening from what I remember, perfect thing to develop mentally disturbed or demonically possessed youths. I have never found it online.

  • @unseenocean Thanks - have now looked it up online and found description of it on IMDB. I remember well the stone dinosaur.

  • @admcotter I've been looking for The Enchanted Castle for ages, thanks for reminding me of IMDB for a bit more info. I can't believe it was by E Nesbit tho, it was bloody terrifying! I remember them making scarecrows that also came to life :o/ xx

  • This series is fantastic. I have the video and the DVD. I visited Belton House last year and I will never forget it. I saw the Moondial and Teddy Larkins grave, thats Tom short for Edward, and Belton Church. This series, is one of a kind. Thanks so much for posting. Love, Minty x.

  • This is really good i remember it as a kid! I was about 6 yrs old hen it was on..i just stumbled across these and what i nice surprise i had forgotten! Well i'm a low budget filmmaker-do you if they open this place for use in films? We are really low budget mind you-but its just the thing we're after on our next feature! Cheers John

  • ChanceEncounters. Hi John. I do know that Belton House wouldnt let us film inside the house. We filmed the grounds and gardens and the orangery, Belton Church and the graveyard and of course the Moondial. I cant remember if we filmed inside Belton Church. I dont know if they will allow film crews to film inside, but I am sure if they did, they would want payment. Your best course of action is to ring Belton House. Its in Lincolnshire. I do wish you luck. Its a unique place. Love, Minty x.

  • Thanks for the info! Worth a try! Well we're very low budget & i can imagine they'd be expensive!I wonder if the glass room is also on the grounds? I think with inside stuff or other places they were possibly filmed somewhere else? were they? Thanks though its good to know.

  • Hi ChanceEncounters. I dont know what you mean by the glass room. Do you mean the bedroom with the looking glass or the orangery. I believe Siri Neal was in a few other programmes on TV. If you look up Siri Neal on IMDB you will see her cv. Take care, Love, Minty x.

  • Thanks alot ;-) it was early on in the episodes so i guess it was the orangery...

  • ...it looks like it carries many ghosts!Another little question; what else has the actress who plays Minty been in? I reconise her from something else?

  • Wow! You filmed it? Great to have filmed such a wonderful piece of my childhood! I adored this series! Thanks for telling me!

  • why does this video keep pausing?

  • I absolutley loved this series when it was shown here in Australia in about 1989. I was a kid of about 9 when this was shown. It is so well made and the main character Minty is somebody I admired at that age and still do. I really wish they would release this series on DVD again on a global scale. It is fantastic.

  • oh my god i wish i was 12 again! this was ace when i was a kid - i dont suppose you have simon and the witch too?! tv is rubbish now even on my days off the kids tv at 4pm is crap - no tea bag strikes again or anything like that!

  • haha great, hope they're not getting too spooked by it!!

  • does them good to be spooked! i have the chs but cant play it here in asia

  • its good to teach kids not to bully pepole cos they look diffrent remeber Sarahs birthmak on her face good luck Miss

  • @schemie1 hope the kids enjoyed it also if you use it again theirs a lesson for us all in it not to judge others on looks alone look how the ppl treated Sarah cos of her birthmark they couldnt see past it and she was a very sweet kid

  • thank you for posting-brilliant show

  • Pity they deleted the DVd version in the UK, they should make another one quickly! This brings back great memories for me as a child watching it! I remember the story too!

  • you can get it on ebay and the book

  • wow was great to watch this again. can't believe it's been deleted in the uk, would love to get hold of Moondial on DVD some day.
