  • @ProjectBun Well, there was this thing around in the 80's called 'VHS'.....

  • @JiffySpook

    ok?

  • @JiffySpook Thanks for introducing me to this!

  • Fans of the Lounge Lizards or Lurie should check out Marvin Pontiac, one of his biggest influences (he claims.)

  • such a 90's feel :)

  • Loved both da tune 'n da performance when I originally saw it on TV. I still treasure their first LP as well .....

  • Damn you, youtubetrollers.... I accidentally read batmanownsyourass' comment right when ribot started his solo! Ruined. Gonna hear it from the start again :D

  • One of their best.

  • The drummer looks like Carlton of the Prince of Bel-Air.

Didn't heard such innovative sound since a long time...

  • Yes.

  • What the hell is this? FANTASTIC!

  • It is much more than just a new Jazz. It is the best contemporary music worldwide! If somebody knows more than I so please post bands, orchestras or composers which can compete with them.

  • @MrPatriceLumumba An autistic deaf kid with only one arm?

  • @batmanownsyourass I guess any second to discuss anything with someone who names himself "batmanownsyourass" is wasted. @John Lurie - how about a song "Shit in the head"? It is a big and frequent issue in our society!

  • @edgar0001 Because someone who names himself edgar0001 is so very intelligent. At least mine shows creativity.

  • Real fuckin' rockers. These guys have it right.

  • the best band ever!!!

  • it seems that this thing has to be liked :/ it just broke my hears, and I kinda know how to appreciate music from various origins and I love jazz but here, sorry john lurie i like you but guitar part saved the tune (i dont talk about performance, I talk about.. perception?)

  • Curtis Fowlkes fucking killing it.

  • The dude w/ da mustache playin sax is my music teacher... no joke!

    C O W B E L L ! ! !

  • Marc Ribot = Marty Mcfly! ;)

  • This is a fucking epic performance, so much better than the studio version.

    Ohhh the cacophony *drools*

  • Ribot kicks soooo much ass. Nobody else could use that brittle, sparkling, dirty tele sound and sound nearly as good....

  • i love these guys. just found out about them

  • Ribot & Lure what's a couple!!!

  • HOLY CRAP!!

  • 2:03

  • Thanx for this one. Simply fucking beautiful.

  • Fucking beautiful. If I believed in god i'd be on my knees.

  • Wikipedia called this style "punk jazz". This is so fuckin good man! saludos desde México

  • siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick.

  • *********** stars - Brilliant Ribot at his finest.

  • this is the music i been searchin for.

  • So true. So many good aspects of music in one group/song.

  • awesome !

  • This is really dangerously addictive! Since I found it there's rarely a day without me watching. I must buy that CD, but I'm a bit concerned if the studio verison kicks ass equally? Does it?!?

Man, the song is so good!

  • Yes. It may be a bit more cohesive, is all.

  • it'S good but it has about a fraction of the fire and energy this version has. Sadly.

  • Does anyone remember seeing this on T.V.? They played it on Trio some years back.

Was it Tori Amos on the other half hour?

    I miss this show.

    And LL is the illest.

  • Ladies and gentlemen, Marty McFly on guitar.

  • and he was right! today's kids love that stuff! at least me...

  • I hate to write this as I see it everywhere, but it truly is one of the best videos on YT. But is it or only left channel is working?

  • Don't wear headphones. Digital artifacts in the right channel.

This is the child of Albert Ayler and punk rock.

  • ribots solo alone makes this video

  • Marc Ribot is such an amazing guitarist. So underrated, too.

  • How is he underrated? He's probably one of the busiest and most respected guitarists I know.

  • @sargebaker thats because you obviously dont know much guitarists

  • mcfly

  • Is he really Marc Ribot?

  • Yes, handsome wasn't he ?

  • Song is pure genius. If you dig this, check out his artwork sometime, also the real deal. Damn this song is good.

  • kthxby

  • Sloth love Chunk!

  • i can't thank you enough for posting this. it's an extremely important document in the history of music.

everyone is all crazy about ribot on guitar, but has anyone noticed that that's ERIK SANKO on bass?! skeleton key?! c'mon!

that's actually the more shocking part of this video, but seriously...

hearing this live blows my mind. fucking fabulous.

  • what is the meaning of chunk?

  • mark ribotのソロがサイコー!

  • only give thought, only give thinking

only give thought to the voice of chunk

    to the voice of chunk

    only so velvet

    only so fleeting

    only give thot

    2 the voice of chunck

  • just & only . . LOUGE LIZZZZZARDZZZZ..ghrrrrrr

  • John Lurie is such a phenomenal player and composer. It's a shame that Lyme disease has basically killed his career. His brother Evan, the piano player, now does the music for Nickelodeon's "The Backyardigans"!

  • I heard, his disease's not the Lyme one.

  • It's odd, really. In an interview for Perfect Sound Forever, John said that a number of doctors are totally convinced that it's Lyme disease. But an equal number of doctors are convinced it's something else, yet they can't agree on what it is! Whatever the case, it's sucked away most of his energy and endurance.

  • it's interesting you should mention that. i saw that show the other day and was struck by how awesome the music was despite that fact its a crappy kid's show. and yea, it's a shame that john has been in ill health in recent years.

  • interesting to see mark ribot pre-gray.

  • great

  • How comes Jools Holland is presenting?

  • @banchtants Because Jools Holland was one of the hosts of the show - original host David Sanborn, I think Jools came on as a co-host in about the second year.

  • @Gminor7 Cheers- a surprise to see him on a US show.

  • awesome

  • dzizas - zajebioza!

  • Wow! Thanks for finding this and sharing it. I was way to "cool" (read: listening to the wrong stuff) to appreciate this guy's talent and his group back then....God Bless the Internet!!!

  • i had no idea the 80s had music this good...

  • ribot's playing is so raw...so good!

  • Marc Ribot looks like Michael J. Fox playing johnny be good

  • True! But luckily, he sounds nothing like it!

  • I was only one at the time but that was definitely Jools Holland at the beginning right?

  • Yes.

  • Cheers, for confirming.

  • Is that Ribot on guitar?

  • Yes.

  • Ahhhh, beautiful. Ribot's the man. Played with Waits, Zorn, Lurie...

  • holy crapcakes this is amazing

  • I am in dire need of a DVD copy of the Lounge Lizards Live in Berlin film. Does anyone have the slightest idea where to buy one? Commercially, no bootleg - I'm planning to use it in a public film series...thanks.

  • Is Adrian Belew playing guitar?

  • Marc Ribot

  • thanks! Does Adrian play on big heart?

  • I believe Ribot plays on that as well.

  • nothing else comes close.

  • I just saw john lurie's exhibit at the montreal museum of fine arts, it was awesome, and there were people leaving appaulled

  • I've never seen Marc Ribot standing! Great vid

  • nice, Lurie makes kick-ass music, its just hard to find any songfiles of his on the internet

  • I'm actually sweating as a result.

  • Yes, one of the most influencial bands to mix Jazz with avant with a punkish feel and bring it off creatively. Saw them 3 times. In NY at the Village ? (i forgot) I heard John L was doing shrooms...but they blasted. I was sitting at a table right in front of the stage with a Japanese heavy metal friend, she came out of there saying they were too loud. I said, "I thought you like HM!" funny, saw them at the KF and saw them in Tokyo Club Quattro...all still excellent. cheers well done.

  • The Lounge Lizards used to put on the most exhilarating live music EVER! I miss them.
